I 100% see why it makes no sense for Luffy to do this but I mean it was a cool fun fight nothing really to overanalyze imo. Also no one really knows if it was the editor or whatever just rumors.

At the end of the day, it's subjective and I can think of much worse things to critique, this story is long enough to upset anyone at least once, whether with pacing or certain gags. I also respect Oda learned from this process, this was still relatively early OP, his style changed with it in some ways over the years.

2023-12-07 04:01:22 +0000 UTCHe didn't act "a bit different." Luffy went from trusting Zoro with his life, to deciding Zoro is a serial killer who massacres hundreds of civilians in cold blood. The whole reason Luffy took a liking to Zoro in the first place is that he sacrificed himself to protect some civilians from Helmeppo. But now Luffy is so completely convinced that Zoro is Jeffrey Dahmer, that he's unwilling to even hear an explanation? I'm glad it doesn't bother you, but it is bad writing.

Luffy vs zoro is so weird because it is obviously for gag purposes but could you really see luffy and zoro go this far? Anyways great reactions and Im loving that we are getting more into the story of one piece!

People in reality are inconsistent all the time, it's not a sin to have a character act a bit different (allegedly). Luffy's drinks were just as spiked as the others, he was buzzed. Luffy's an idiot almost 24/7 anyway. Why would Luffy assume these nice people were framing Zoro, he had no reason to doubt them since they fed him, and unlike Nami with Usopp in Arlong Park, Zoro was a known killing machine. There's nothing wrong with the setup and there's nothing wrong with appreciating the humor of the fight (simply, the fanservice fight isn't why I care).

2023-12-06 18:45:23 +0000 UTCI am an advocate for there being nothing wrong with the Luffy vs Zoro fight, despite it being generally despised by the fandom for being "inconsistent with Luffy's character," so I loved your appreciation of it! Granted, Oda admitted (unless I'm mistaken, there's just so much to keep track of) it was an editor's suggestion to have them powerscale each other, and another time Oda said he always hates taking suggestions, but I don't think it changes anything.

2023-12-06 18:35:27 +0000 UTCA lot of people have speculated that that Zoro v Luffy fight was either added on an editor's suggestion for fanservice reasons or is just a mistake Oda prolly regrets adding to the story. Because Luffy's decision here to fight Zoro really does not make any sense at all😭 This is the same guy that didn't believe Jonny when he said Nami, who he knew for like a week at that point, killed Ussop, but he believed some random folks that his ride or die & first mate killed them all in cold-blood??
