Nakama is one thing but there were a few lines where it wasn't translated as Nakama and yet the word friend was still used. I so much prefer the fan translations over this but what ever, i guess its kind of a small nitpick that doesn't destroy your experience if you understand it and overlook it.

2023-12-08 22:20:36 +0000 UTCHere's some info that is safe since you saw the live action, the hat had a purpose, although the dog part might be arbitrary. Before Oda wrote One Piece, he wrote 2 prototype shorts called Romance Dawn that were a bit different. In Ver 2, Luffy got his straw hat from his grandfather, a pirate that was not named but is visually identical (not counting clothes); while Shanks gave it to him in Ver 1. When Oda drew this Koby cover story 3 years after, he covered Garp's eyes with a hat the whole time because a small number of people might recognize his face from his early concept.

2023-12-08 18:22:22 +0000 UTCThe reason it felt filler-y at the start is because this episode adapted the 2nd 'arc' of the manga's cover stories (the 2 Buggy eps before Logue Town was the 1st one) Unfortunately, I think this will be the last cover story arc (with 2 or 3 exceptions), out of the currently 18 out there, that has made it into the anime, despite them being canon🤷🏾♂️
