2023-12-15 00:58:20 +0000 UTCTo me the I am you scene is lot more deep than that. To me this scene is a lot more about Yuji than the overall story. The way I see it , this is where Yuji realizes that hes not a hero , he is a sorcerer. A hero saves people. A sorcerer kills curses. This distinction is very important. Thats why he says that regardless of Mahito form or name , as long as he is a curse he will still kill him. Even if he came back as harmless and weak curse he would still kill him. He no longer does it because they may hurt others, he does it because thats what sorcerers do. Just as a cog doesnt need a reason to spin in a machine , a sorcerer doesnt need a reason to kill curses. Yuji no longer need a justification to kill curses. He does it because hes a sorcerer, and that is his job. And just like a cog in a bigger machine, Yuji is just one more sorcerer in the bigger Jujutsu world, simply doing his part. This why I personally call it charater regression instead of development, not because Yuji becomes a worse written character but because he literelly strips away his individuality and become just one more cog on the Jujutsu machine. He literally regreeds as a individual. Im not saying that he no longer wants to save people, he obviously still does and cares about others, Im saying that he no longers needs a justification to kill curses and now sees himself as just another sorcerer and not someone special whos gonna save the world.
