I love the idea that everyone on this crew is a monster in some way. Luffy is probably one of the scariest character we have ever seen and it fits so well that they want another "monster" to join the crew. One of the reasons Luffy is so endearing is how little he judges others based on intrinsic qualities. Even in a world with fishman and crazy powers that come from eating a fruit, a talking reindeer with a blue nose who can also transform is super bizarre. Chopper fits the definition of "monster" in every way but luffy views it as a cool attribute not as a negative trait. Yes Luffy does dumb things and does not always take everything serious but his ability to connect and make others feel safe is such a cool thing for an mc of a shonen manga. I love chopper, I love your reactions, and I can not wait for what next year will bring! (Also IDK how you managed to time this arc perfectly with the month but congrats on that. I really think one of you ate a look into the future fruit or some shit)

My headcanon is that Frankenstein was actually part of Oda's inspiration for Chopper (on top of the obvious Rudolph) but I've not seen someone else say it in ages if at all. But to be fair, I also read Mary Shelly, can't say everyone has. And I know for sure Oda is familiar with Frankenstein for a different reason, so I think it's intentional.

Do you just become more human? This fruit was conveniently eaten by an animal, or maybe inconveniently from how badly he was treated.
