yes exactly, luffy’s impulsiveness and being indicatively more observant about things around him is his greatest quality and they really downplay this in the fillers. This coupled with being able to use his wit to exploit crocodile’s weaknesses is how he is able to get the edge over someone with much more battle experience. I was kind of hoping that carson and linsey would notice these things and talk at length about them but its something to remember for the future as it definitely becomes even more significant in the story later.

The power scaling of using natural elemental weaknesses to exploit enemies defenses, rather than just the author write in some scenario where the character suddenly gets a burst of power like out of nowhere and wins like SO many other shonen series tend to do. The first time I saw this, I realized that oda was a bit more clever and tried to add more realism towards the fights he showcased at least within the context of the rules he establishes and he couldn't/didn't want to break the logic behind the mechanics of his series with the devil fruits. It’s like Carson said, in the future you can have some one immensely stronger but yet if that vulnerability such as how Water dries out crocs sand, is exposed, then you might actually win with pure strategy. This was also showcased earlier with Crocodile and Smoker. It’s brilliant!! and gives you a taste that not every fight in one piece is dictated by just pure levels of strength or power.

One of the things I like about him as a character: he's impulsive, seems like a complete idiot, goes about bouncing around not paying any attention to anything (also, one reason I don't like some of the filler stuff is they make him look like more of an idiot than we're supposed to see him as in my opinion). Then suddenly he surprises you because once he's interested and paying attention he shows great observation and quick thinking, particularly in fights but also in other cases. His emotional intelligence is often pretty crazy too. Frankly from the canon, I could associate with him being neurodivergent, maybe like ADD.

2024-01-31 17:41:11 +0000 UTCThis. As an animator, I'm excited about the early episodes getting some high-quality animation but mostly I hope they fix the pacing, the long drawn-out stares, over over-extended fights and all the other devices TOEI used for padding. I get why they did it, but we've got enough manga content now to make a more efficient and satisfying version of this story. I think Wit are capable of doing something great for both of these points and I have high hopes they will live up to that. I would like it if they could keep a large part of the music considering TOEI is included in the deal somehow, but even if they don't I'll be hyped for it.

2024-01-31 17:07:59 +0000 UTCWhen Crocodile stabbed Luffy, there's a moment when the water hits Crocodile's arm and Luffy squeezes very hard, Crocodile is visually in pain but doesn't turn his arm into sand to avoid the pain.. it's such a small hint that pays off so many episodes later!

2024-01-31 14:21:28 +0000 UTCAbout the power scaling and tactics that Carson brought up, match-ups definitely are a thing, for example, Zoro is arguably way stronger than Buggy, but it's such an inconvenient match-up because Buggy's fruit gives him the advantage against slashing attacks, whereas say Luffy's blunt attacks can easily put him down.

2024-01-31 13:10:21 +0000 UTCAbout Crocodile sucking the water out of everything he needs to touch it in order to do that, just like Mr. 2 with one hand he copies faces and with the other one he transforms. Yes to what Lindsay said about the little bottle of water Luffy had, it splashed Crocodile's hand and Luffy was grabbing him so hard that he made that face 😁

2024-01-31 11:38:45 +0000 UTCYeah, the pacing is really awful in some moments, especially as I can't skip cause we have it synced, the last 2 episodes could've easily been united into one episode, this is something you have to get used to, and sometimes they also put in flashbacks of literally the previous episodes, it annoys me, but I feel it is still way better than 500 filler episodes. I hope the newly announced remake of the anime will fix pacing issues.
