Yeah OP has like 20 Marine ranks and early on the translation weren't really unanimous, but she said to be a Sōchō (曹長), which is later correctly translated as Master Chief Petty Officer / Petty Officer First Class & is the 13th highest rank

2024-02-09 14:16:48 +0000 UTCYoure right about Hina but according to the wiki no such rank as Sergeant Major exists. It could be a difference in translation because it comes up under some searched but not others

2024-02-07 03:28:18 +0000 UTCSergeant Major must be some type of rank because a major character is that role in post-Enies Lobby. Also, Hina is still only a Captain, not yet a Rear Admiral, your timeline is off.

2024-02-07 03:17:32 +0000 UTCSomething interesting about the ranks that I noticed in this episode. I was debating posting this because it could technically be viewed as spoilers but it isn't incredibly relevant and I don't think its gone over in any real clear detail at any point. Its basically just about the ranking system of the marines so if you're not interested in that feel free to skip. Near the end of this episode Tashigi is addressed as "Sergeant Major Tashigi" which isn't actually a rank in the One Piece Marine system as far as I'm aware. When we are first introduced to her she is a "Master Chief Petty Officer" which is the second highest rank in the Infantry and Sailor Division (which is the 2nd of 3 divisions) . She has now been promoted to an Ensign which is sort of confusing because it skips a rank and in this episode it says they are to be promoted by 1 rank. An Ensign is the lowest rank of the 1st division of marines making her the 11th highest rank overall. Smoker, who was introduced as a Captain, is now a Commodore which is the 5th highest rank. The woman who was introduced, Hina, is a Captain.

2024-02-06 00:39:23 +0000 UTCI could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Crunchyroll/Netflix subtitles (they're the same) are from Funimation, and yeah, as someone who can speak Japanese, they're a lot softer than the old fansubs and leave a lot to be desired sometimes.

2024-02-05 00:05:45 +0000 UTCI think there are at least 10 filler episodes soon. But I am not a manga reader, so other people should tell you which episodes are actually fillers.

2024-02-04 20:52:43 +0000 UTCCrunchyroll needs to hire competent translators that actually know basic grammar, jesus.

2024-02-04 19:24:15 +0000 UTCSmoker was more assertive on the Den Den Moshi this is, but either way, what a badass.

2024-02-04 18:09:32 +0000 UTCI actually remember watching this with fan subs long ago and it had this line. Im not really happy with the crunchyroll translation, there were several moments when rewatching that made me think "wasnt this translated much better when I first watched it?". Also in the previous episode when Crocodile says "Who do you think I am?" and then Luffy replies "I dont care who you are, I will surpass you". In that fan sub it said "I dont give a sh.. who you are, I will surpass you". Its actually the same but still sounds a lot more powerful in the latter xD.

2024-02-04 15:58:59 +0000 UTCAre you skipping fillers in general? If so how does everyone feel about the upcoming ones? Personally I think some of them are pretty wholesome, especially the first one (131). Not a must watch, but they show some character bonding and stuff and dont feel out of place unlike some other fillers.

2024-02-04 15:47:11 +0000 UTCSmoker actually said something like, "tell them, 'eat shit'" (くそくらえってな ) at the end there
