2024-02-27 19:37:13 +0000 UTCI can understand the confusion on Aya’s sexuality (I’m pretty sure the fandom headcanons him as bisexual at the very least regardless), but Mine and Aya’s relationship has been intentionally left secretive for the most part even in story too so I definitely get the confusion svhsvdjdbd. Momiji’s feelings reveal is one of the plot points I love a lot because people always refer to Fruits Basket as a ‘love triangle’ and people who know are always like “technically yes,,, except the third you don’t really know about until s3” LMAO. It’s also pretty amazing since the viewer themselves don’t really see Momiji as a potential love interest/someone who’s held romantic affection for Tohru almost exactly because of the reasons he talks about—his ‘childish’ quality, his shorter appearence, and etc. Yet upon rewatch, it’s almost obvious how fond Momiji was of Tohru.

He was always pretty mature and aware of his feelings but it is really interesting to see how much he grew in the last season and I like the visual representation of that, with his actually becoming taller and more "adult" like. I believe this translates a lot to the will to move forward and walk his own path and to me this is one of the reasons why his curse broke. Also, I do think that Kyo knows that what Momiji told him about the curse is true. He noticed Momiji being different and it is a serious topic enough for him to know he would not say that out of nowhere. Besides, he comments about Tohru and how that would not make her happy, not as much as she would be if it was Kyo's instead. And I think what triggers Kyo in this is the possibility of hope. He has shut that possibility way back and resigns his pursuit of happiness to protect Tohru and avoid making her sad. But Momiji straight teasing him with the possibility that Tohru likes him, and that the curse can be broken is putting him in the spot of shit, I should not clown myself and dare to think of those things or else I'll cause her pain, since he cannot accept he deserves to be happy yet.
