One Piece Episode 246 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

Love the discussion!

Chase Turman

Love the conversation about the process of inspiration. I think people may think that it undercuts the value of a story that calls its shots, like you mentioned with Kokoro and the sea train showing up before we know how integral they are, to speculate that the hypothetical inspiration ended up being used in the way they are here. As if the source being somewhat random makes the project less valuable somehow. But to me it just makes me so excited that such an amazing and interwoven narrative can appear from humble and even goofy beginnings.

Tom who ate the train-train fruit πŸ’€

When did Oda said something like that?Stop dreaming, Oda said that he planned full story, but added some parts, with Y****, which wasn't even planned. Those parts was added for giving feeling of adventure story. But W7 and Arabasta with M****** was planned. I hid spoiler names, but I believe you will understand what I mean there.

Jack Shadow

nah water7 was not planned from the beginning. Oda said it. I won't say why he decided to add a shipwright to crew but it was not in the original vision. but he had ample time to plan the whole arcs as he was writing long ring rong land arc. thats is why it feels a lot more cohesive.

Fabulous

"Summarize your thoughts for this discussion" "Yes."

Jambron

The same was also talked about for Long Ring Long Land. The fact it used to be one permanent island before the sea levels started fluctuating around the area

Matthew Gilroy

already brought up a lot how jojo part 6, hunterxhunter greed island, and skypiea were written kinda simultaneously, but i think a more precise thing to say is that Part 7, Chimera Ant, and these next couple of sagas of One PIece happened pretty much EXACTLY simultaneously, 2003-2011, and have just about the same reception among the fandoms of each respective series that they are the full-on peaks

Yagi di Hoshi

It's on topic of what they were discussing towards the very end with the writing process of Water 7, so I am gonna leave out some of the quote, since it answers a few of their questions (you can check the wiki), but it's in the same trivia book where he talked about Miss Wednesday being made into Vivi on a whim. He says this about Lucci: "Rob Lucci had many highlight scenes, you know. To tell you the truth, Water 7 arc was a story to let a shipwright join the Straw Hats. [...] and [...] were the only events I determined to draw before the arc started. First of all, I intended to throw my audience into confusion. [...] I made many shipwrights appear. After drawing various characters, I wondered, 'Whom should I make a villain?' OK. Let's draw this weird guy with pigeon as a villain! Yeah, he is Rob Lucci!! Manga serialization is a wonderland. Move forward where you now consider interesting!!" So this is a little misunderstanding by many, with the "After drawing various characters" part, but that is referring to him drawing various shipwrights in his SKETCHES, not the actual manga, and then from that conceptualizing the CP9 ones (we know this because there is a pre-Water7 sketch that shows the exact CP9 members, that are also the ones later in the story). So it's not like Lucci being a CP9 member was decided after his introduction, but that the CP9 characters' designs were simply a last-minute Water 7 planning stage decision (and not villains he had planned to draw for a long time, as with many other future ones).

You guys are crazy at analysis damn

ignorantWeed

Considering Odas images of his planned Crewmates before the series started, I’d imagine since he wrote Robin and crocodile he planned this, seeing as, the events in this arc, Robin, pluton etc are so important to the plot of the entire series I feel everything around Robin was planned way out

DaniP

I will watch this comment section really carefully... if someone spoils anything I will curse him for the rest of his life 😀

Albanese

sorry i didn't meant to respond to your comment lol

EDIT: AND NARNIA !? full circle, like damn man... i am so thankful that i now live in a time where One Piece is far-reaching irl enough to the point where i've come across a few ppl who also make Wind Waker comparisons like i have been the entire time. Wind Waker was the first video game to help me leave my shell a bit more & i didn't think i would like it at first "due to its [new] art style" (for zelda)...hmm, that sounds really familiar...oh hello one piece & jojo offering up much the same outlets/prospects for me

Yagi di Hoshi

i did not know abt this

Yagi di Hoshi

This is especially true considering the general conception that animated content was "just" for kids. Even without things like the Internet of today and YouTube of today, there wasn't really anyone with the experience, wisdom and will to do this kind of analysis back then. That dynamic has changed.

Jambron

or he could also be super good at improvising thru it. for one piece i'd find that more impressive in its own right

Yagi di Hoshi

as an early 30's myself, back then in the late aughts/early 2010s, i would so often see people go "nah go watch boruto's dad instead"πŸ’€πŸ’€(i did that & imo i was bored out of my mind majority of the time, will read the naruto manga later)

Yagi di Hoshi

@fia yup, i figured as much. this is why i aim to read corresponding manga chapters to anything i can get ahold of

Yagi di Hoshi

Holy shit it makes perfect sense!

Catus

Lucci was originally not planned to be a member of CP9. We don't know the original plans for him, but I guess Oda thought he had a great villain design.

Envyus

I love your discussion, and I will say that you are smart. I'm curious what you will think about arc as the whole when you see how it ends. Because I feel like, Skypia arc wasn't completely planned, but W7 was arc that Oda had in his mind when even started to write this story. For example Usopp who always called himself as captain go into rebellion was one of the planned things.

Jack Shadow

the reason why shandians have wings is explained in the manga and never really addressed in the anime, it's really interesting

fia

"What's up with the frog?" Oh my god, we're so close to that! Give us the next trio of episodes!

therobotchicken

1h:17 min discussion, full course meal right here

Black Snow

One thing that goes super under notice is oda ability to misdirected. His misdirection goes super under notice because of all the glazing for his foreshadowing. Also I’m sure you guys figure it out but the 8 years ago what said during cp9 back flash 5 years ago when they first heard cutty flan name. So it’s actually a lot longer than 8 years that she started drinking.

Sonicluis

omg it's literally Thomas & Friends

Dizzt

Damn almost 80 mins of content. Ya love to see it

Skele

Finally you got to the reveal that Rob Lucci ACTUALLY is Chiqicheetah from Foxy's crew

Potetskall

when I was kid watching this, i thought the whole aqua laguna was the result of some strong guy like aikoji using powerful shockwaves to create floods, lmao, omg i was such an idiot! Us in our late 30's early 40's now, these arcs were to early and we were just (young teens) and just happy to enjoy an action manga with a cool adventure. We really couldn't appreciate the depth of the world building and story telling that oda was giving us at the time. Your theories about the water levels rising are far more interesting and insightful then anything i would have ever come up with as a kid. I guess its the same for alot of us older OG fans, we were young and we didn't have the mental capacity to truly ascertain the story to its full extent so its very cool seeing some of these earlier arcs being analyzed in a very different way from newer fans.

Artemis

Love how you guys discuss about the water levels now that I think about it, it is interesting to talk about with the rest of your analysis in this video. I just love it so much. I'm so happy I'm a patreon to you guys πŸ’–

ViviMay

The pigeon with hellfire glowing in its eyes goes unfathomably hard lol. Excellent discussions once again, it certainly does feel like Oda hit his stride as a writer during this arc. Every character, detail, and plot decision feels way more intentional and organic than ever before. It's no wonder why many say that Water 7 is when One Piece starts to hit different. Really love when you guys try to get in Oda's head and speculate on how he decides to manage the pace and structure of his story. Much like a speeding train, this arc just doesn't stop. Looking forward to the next drop! #snakeisatrain

100Rainy

Interesting talk about the water levels in Water 7 by Franky... I totally forgot about this

Gabriel Akira

Hooooly, 1h20m reaction, this is a Michelin Star level meal. I feel so spoiled. I loved the Wind Waker comparaison and the tie-ups with Pluton even more. I can't wait for you guys to connect more dots as more hints are dropped. Also, surprisingly, Yokozuna the frog still on your mind is crazzzy, I'm not complaining. Love Franky's energy, so weird seeing him socialize with Usopp after he beat the living shit out of him and created the whole mess. That shot of Hattori looking all corporate and evil justifies how Luffy told Pauli to beat the pigeon because it was controlling Lucci earlier in the arc. Never trust that feathery mf. I love how Tom gets a couple of name drops and he's suddenly now connected to everyone and everything lmao.
