2024-12-27 00:19:57 +0000 UTCIt's interesting how Oda doesn't resort to using cool-looking designs when presenting the prisoners in the different floors of Impel Down.ย Some of these men look like canon fodder, but it's hard to forget that in the end they were stripped of all their "coolness factor" and just given an ordinary prison suit and locked in a cell. The audience perceives that as just random nobodies because part of what uniquely identifies a character in this series is the style of their outfits and the design of the characters, but don't let those generic looks fool you. If they are men kept in lower levels like crocodile or jimbie, they are equally notorious and very dangerous criminals.ย I guess the one time I appreciate that oda went with more simplicity to convey that sense of authenticity vs. just trying to make everything look stylistic.ย

2024-12-27 00:05:26 +0000 UTCI love how this colors Roger as a more morally flawed character who is just as responsible for creating enemies or causing trouble and not just looked at as the man who every pirate see's as a legendary figurehead. Just goes to show you that even Gol D. Roger had his faults and we are just now starting to peel back those layers from his character.

2024-12-26 23:59:00 +0000 UTCI like how this episode mentions more negative consequences to what Roger did. Up til now Roger starting this era has been talked about as this great adventure. But we tend to forget that many pirates have no morals. In fact I would say the majority don't. It's awe-inspiring that one man could bring about such change with just his words and why so many people idolize him. But it also explains why some people have such hatred for him that even the guy who made his ship was set for execution.

2024-12-26 18:59:19 +0000 UTCI think Yosaku is the one who mentioned JImbei. He was talking about Mihawk and mentioned Jimbei then mentioned Arlong was a fishman too. Though some readers took that to mean Arlong was as strong as him, which is laughable in hindsight. I don't think Arong even mentions Jimbei in Arlong Park in the anime.
