One Piece Episode 439 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

Ya know, Boa kicks puppies... Iva does an occasional unsolicited sex change... pobody's nerfect here.

Briana Roop

Whenever I see this one, I can't help but admire Mayumi Tanaka's amazing skill as a voice actress. This must have been a weird series of wails and screams to record.

Jambron

yeah i wonder if maybe they missed that line because there's no reason to feel bad for the dad it's what he wanted

Remi

Show me where they said that bc im pretty sure theyre just refered to as "prisoners" especially when there are other sorts of criminals like trafficker's, mountain bandits, and revolutionaries that exist in the world

FuzionNinja

The thing that gets me, is that after turning him into a woman,Iva and the rest of the people don't really hold a gruge against the guy they even clap for him, and maybe i am giving it to much thought but it seems like Iva is also giving him the chance to explore his own insecurities, in a very forcefull way but that is Ivan's way i suppose

emilio corvalan

He lost his status because of the kingdom and their views not because his dad wanted to live as a woman. That's the same as saying that in families that get ruined because a person is trans, the blame fall on the person and not on the families who cannot accept a personal choice.

BTImelesS

Why would he have remorse for changing his father if we take the "He wanted to live as a woman" at face value? "Is there a worse fate than living as a woman"? Maybe you need to talk to people who are trans, ask them their point of view and living as their gender assigned at birth.

BTImelesS

Sanji Joestar: Apparently females, of every ethnicity, are slightly fairer than males of the same group. I mean it's not as dramatic as what was depicted here but I think it's literally that men have more melanin than women lol. It's either that or this was just another case of the Japanese aesthetic of favouring fairer females and darker males; you'll notice that a lot in anime in general.

Catus

I don't think the guy is necessarily transphobic. His whole family was denied nobility because his dad became an okama. So the guy might not care about his dad at all and was just mad at Ivan because he prevented him from becoming a prince. Even if he was transphobic I don't think he deserved to get gender dysphoria for it. The guy lost his status over something he can't control and now he got his gender forcefully switched. You said it yourself that a lot of trans kids take their own lives because of lack of control and gender dysphoria. I think killing someone right away would be more humane than driving them into suicide.

Rasegy Buldiga

Agree 100%

Kiki Varas

I mean, if you think being killed through self-defense is better than enforced gender change through self-defense, fair, but let's not pretend that guy doesn't wish his dad never became a woman. He laments the loss of royal privilege due to his dad coming out as a woman. He either doesn't care about his dad or believes his dad's happiness is fake & Iva forced it. Now he can taste his own medicine of expressing a gender role he doesn't want to, like his dad had for years. Iva is not a saint (neither is Luffy) nor was he prepped up us such; he was prepped as a miracle worker, to which he also clarifies with his own take on it. But lets not fall into the trap of morally expecting more of Iva than the guy who tried to murder him for something that isn't Iva's fault. Bon-chan assisted in the subversion of a country into chaos under a crime syndicate, by successfully defaming it's king in order for the false rebellion to go through, which, even with the resolution, still had its casualties. But we care about Bon due to what he's done for Luffy & the strawhats, since the story is about them & not about Vivi & Alabasta.

Its just unexpected and a strange retaliation Sort of an existential nightmare, and Ivan shows no remorse for changing his father (who may have just been living his best life so fair). I guess it’s just like: “THIS is the guy who is our saving grace? A guy who didn’t even pity the son after what happened with his father but instead curses him to an existence that he never asked for” I mean is there a worse fate than living as a woman? 😬 Idk it’s complicated but that was pretty wild to say the least

BOLDcast

also he was attacking so...

Munte

They were put in prison, they are not saints or just civilians.

Munte

I swear it changes from good to bad by the week Thanks tho lol

BOLDcast

I love Iva but there are totaly valid reasons one may think that scene was wild. People love Okama characters becouse they feel like normal characters (normal in one piece world lol) and doesnt put them down or put them on the pedastale.

ignorantWeed

Oda did amazing things for "Queer rep" and its never enough for some people, smh

Alex Recorde

I noticed that

BOLDcast

Also did you guys notice that Inazuma, the guy with the orange and white hair, changed from a man to a woman?

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

I think there are already enough trans kids blocked from gender-affirming care who take their own lives, that we don't need to make that a definitive statement. Or maybe I'm just being a bit meanspirited because the idea of a transphobe trying to kill the person who enabled their parent to be their true self getting hit with the "now you get to see how it feels" is not that terrible... but the other commenter is right, a Patreon comment section is probably not the right place to get into a long discussion about that. Sorry for opening this can of worms, I'll shut up now.

Sera

Forced sex changes is crazy work

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

Its different for a lot of reasons but this chat is not really the place to go into it. Oda probably just wasn't thinking much about it and just wanted to show off Iva's powers

Ty

It was nami and Sanji he was holding while climbing the peak at drum island

Varre Ram

Tbh I really don't get why everyone's so hung up about the forced gender switch. Anyone trying to MURDER YOU has forfeited any right to "consensual" treatment. Buggy didn't consent to having his body stolen, Enel didn't consent to having his property wrecked, yet we all cheered for it. I know we are going by anime logic, but saying "he could have just killed him instead", as if literal death was better than having to live in a wrong-gender body is... a bit questionable too? 😅

Sera

Everyone in the prison is designated “pirate” , no different from Guantanamo being filled with “terrorists”

DaniP

Who said Ivan is a pirate?.......

FuzionNinja

I don't know, I've never met him in person. But I did once go to a gay bar to test out the results of my training. Not. A. God. Damn. Chance.

Tate Wheatley

Are you approaching Duval level yet?

ChocoBoshi

Love all the lines about miracles in this episode. Very powerful

SomeoneElse

like c'mon we just saw Luffy shove dozens of prison guards just doing their job into lava lmao Though, without being facetious, at this point in time Oda's queer rep is still hit or miss tbf, but it's not like he's not trying (+ it was 2008...) and it's not like it doesn't get better

klairvoyage

CARSON YOUR HAIR IS LOOKIN GOOD AGAIN LOL

Degenerick

Luffy was probably worse off when he got dried out by Crocodile tbh

Isaac Sato

Yh it’s funny tho looking back, Ivan punished the guy by doing what the guy thought was the worst punishment. Still invasive, still awful, yet I think from Ivan’s view it’s like turning a massive transphobe into another sex as punishment. Also, regardless of how characters come across I make sure to remember their morales are never truly 100% good, Ivan being a pirate and all

DaniP

Shout out to Pell

Matthew Gilroy

I know you love to make predictions but no one is blaming you for not guessing Okama Paradise was a thing LOL

Martin Hagen

Yea I mean it’s really not that serious. That he could have been straight up killed and no one would have said a thing, but he’s turned into a girl, easily temporarily if they were to just apologize(you know, for trying to murder Ivan), and it’s being treated like a fate worse than death, is a bit insane. Let’s be real here, it’s kinda being blown out of proportion.

Mister Kap

"Miracles happen to those who don't give up" My favorite One Piece quote right there, this portion of the arc is so hard man. Luffy really going through it.

EOussama

The Death Wink is the result of intense training, technically anyone could do it if they dedicated themselves. Trust me I've been undergoing training for years and I've got a pretty nasty wink now. I'm like at least top 5 in my neighborhood.

Tate Wheatley

I suppose that's the implication but still odd yeah. Also the guy lost melanin for no reason lmao

Sanji Joestar

The line about Miracles only happening to people who never give up is really powerful as a general life lesson but also for the story. In Long Ring Long Land for example, when they meet Aokiji. He's a literal admiral. He could defeat the entire crew without effort, yet they survived. In short terms, That's a "miracle". But why did it that happen? Because Luffy never gave up on challenging his opponents and circumstances and made Aokiji duel him. Would Aokiji feel shame for breaking the one-on-one and go after the crew when he's done? Luffy has no way of knowing that. But that's the best he can do right now so he'll do it. The man can freeze the sea if he wants they're not escaping him. Aokiji even questioned if Luffy was really thinking of winning despite the odds. He might be lucky but his determination is just that admirable.

Sanji Joestar

Yeah there could've been a better way to demonstrate Iva's powers than that. I get that the guy was literally out for Iva's blood, but it doesn't make it any less invasive and non-consensual. I guess it's probably reversible though so Iva could just switch him back if that guy ever returned and apologized or something.

100Rainy

Luffy was climbing with Nami on his back and holding Sanji in his literal teeth 😭 he's insane when it comes to his friends.

Sanji Joestar

top 5 forced feminizations? 😅😳🙃
