Most consorts have servants to do things like clean and cook (hence why Lihua's ladies didn't know how to wash her or do laundry properly). Gyokuyou is a notable exception in that she has very few ladies and no personal servants, so her ladies do everything themselves (except for things that are done by the larger general staff of the rear palace)

I just love the care Maomao has for her patient and though the courtesan’s story is so very sad, they are not trying to make it a tear jerker, its just a bittersweet feeling of loss but having to move on.
