Both luffy and Black beard stand against the oppressors of the authoritarian regime of the world. They both believe in freedom and dreams, which is why BB preaches his ideology that anything is possible in this world if you choose to obtain it and people’s who dreams never end. It’s a very strong message that’s brought to light again with greater context, after seeing alot of the story unfold and I love how it explores that dualism of both luffy and BB, only from a different side of the coin. I hope you guys are really grasping how awesome this story is now. Its changed alot since its earlier days lol and its amazing how certain things were setup and hinted so long ago which now have deeper relevent meaning to current events.

Blackbeard looks like he is in pain, because at the fight with ace he told him that because of his devil fruit he feels pain more than the average person, like tripple the pain or something

Yeah, Underestimating him probably makes sense to some extent. Also his kind of "happy go lucky" approach to things (well it's not really the words I'd use to describe him actually, so maybe more of a "whatever happens happens" type of approach). (Edit : Everything I've developed below is based solely on events up to this episode and how I perceived BB at the time this was released. It does speculate on certain aspects of his personality and behaviour leading to this point, so no worries if you ignore because you don't want it to colour your impressions.) Kind of like the way he reacted when he didn't manage to catch Luffy before the Merry and the crew shot up the knock up stream. He kind of just shrugged it off as that's just not how it was meant to go. To some extent it seemed like he's more of plans guy, but there also is something of impulse and moment in his behaviour. So my guess was he wasn't worried about risks and consequences and just said and did whatever he wanted to in the moment and that which takes him closer to his goals, whatever these are. This enhances his duality and similarity if you see him as a mirror of Luffy in some weird way, who also just says and does whatever goes through his head. Anyhow that's also how I interpreted the way he seemed to just walk up to Magellan, completely unprepared to face him and apparently unequipped to deal with his power and strength (I mean Magellan so far has been shown to be scary af, so I also think I'd have been a bit disappointed if BB had been a major problem for him, but I didn't expect him to swat him like a fly either). And for me it also explains Blackbeard's surprise reaction to Luffy's attack in the ep just before, in response to what seems like goading, but also could have just been him being terribly blunt and speaking his mind without a care. Not really weighing the fact that Luffy will be pissed and start attacking him. Obviously I didn't want to develop this thought on the last episode even if I guessed you'd seen this part already, as it's only cleared up properly in this episode that BB didn't show up just to challenge Luffy.

I think "it should be poison" is probably a bad translation or something. It's weird lol. I love how Blackbeard is clearly setup to be a big deal, but he takes big hits and is almost clumsy. It's unusual as far as Shonen antagonists go who are typically near-perfect beings

I think Blackbeard just underestimated Magellan. He expected poison but he didn't expect it to be an attack like that. Also whenever he's rolling around after getting hit, he isn't being overdramatic. He said during his fight with Ace that he feels more pain than others due to his Dark Dark Fruit. Despite being a Logia he can't become darkness, so he has to take hits that effect him even worse than normal. That's the drawback to his Devil Fruit, which I think balances it out pretty well

The line about poison seems to be a mistranslation. In the manga and translations I've found what Blackbeard says would translate as: " What the hell is this?! Poison?!! Dammit!! " When he met Shiryu he also asked if he was Magellan. The implication seems to be that Blackbeard knew Magellan by name but didn't know about his abilities.
