One Piece Episode 461 UNCUT REACTION!

One thing I like to think about with regards to Warlord strength, Crocodile, and Luffy is that our captain might not have been warlord level, but he probably punches like one. In all other aspects he’s lacking, but if that little rubber boy gets his hands on you, it’s over. His pure physical strength and resilience is enough to fight out of his weight class if the opponent starts getting hit.

2025-02-01 18:56:46 +0000 UTCI still believe that WB knew that Ace was Roger's son and probably planned to make him Pirate King, even if he didn't say it loudly. But yes. WB is more acting like Piccalo to Gohan then like Vegeta. P.S. Also welcome to power scaling Piece.

2025-02-01 18:55:38 +0000 UTCI can't express how funny it is that Luffy just knew about Ace and Roger and was like ''Oh yeah Shouldn't have said that Forget about that'' YOU KNEW THIS WHOLE TIME YOU LITTLE PUNK😂

Gogul Prasad
2025-01-31 09:11:59 +0000 UTCShanks was obviously strong to have been dueling Mihawk, but the more likely explanation is that he was just caught off guard being so flustered by the fact that he let his guard down and Luffy was about to die.

2025-01-31 04:54:45 +0000 UTCI mean... Some of their theories are not my favourite either but part of what is interesting is letting them cook and see how much they do figure out and what they don't. Including considering there's stuff we know and stuff we don't know even if we're caught up. To be fair sometimes they hit the nail pretty much on the head, sometimes they go off on wild theories, sometimes in the middle of trying every theory they again hit the nail on the head (out of a 100 different things). It's part of the fun and it's an interesting way to revisit the story in a new way regardless of the fact we have that 20/20 hindsight. I'm personally totally happy to hear some theories that are completely weird or wrong, because if they were just predictable in their theorising, then it would be boring to watch. (Also if they were constantly right and not sometimes getting it wrong I'd start to suspect they know quite a lot more of the plot than they are letting on, and are just scripting their reactions. But that's another thing entirely.)

2025-01-31 03:00:17 +0000 UTCno, when shanks met whitebeard, whitebeard said that everyone was shocked that such a strong man lost his arm and asked him whom he lost it to.

2025-01-30 18:46:02 +0000 UTCLindsay was correct to interpret it that way! In this episode Whitebeard tried to stop him and said this time is the exception because he has a bad feeling about Ace perusing Blackbeard. Usually Whitebeard would kill over something like that since it’s the golden rule of his ship. Whitebeard is just trying to make Ace look better by saying that (saving face)

2025-01-30 18:06:55 +0000 UTCCouldn’t agree more with Carson, Ace’s backstory with White Beard would’ve made a nice little mini arc. I’m sure they have their reasons, but I wish we’d get more of things like that or cover stories instead of the usual padding.

2025-01-30 17:35:44 +0000 UTCLucci is strong as an individual, croc is too. Everything Moria does, is from others, he’s lazy, his individual strength and character is whack. Like he literally requires stealing others shadows and keeping them alive to stay strong. So no I disagree he’s “stronger” than lucci , he’s stronger if he steals shadows sure but even when he took 1000 he couldn’t control it. That’s why I call him whack

2025-01-30 17:23:53 +0000 UTCLuffy is about 17 years old around this episode, Shanks lost his arm in about 10 years ago? Could it not be that Shanks was strong back then, but not enough to loose and arm to Sea King?

2025-01-30 16:25:36 +0000 UTCCarson what whitebeard told shanks is a lie to save face. His crew his business. Whitebeard told ace not to go because this is exception because whitebeard had a bad feeling about blackbeard. Same thing infront of the world in marineford he acts like he did send ace on that mission because at the end of the day he is incharge of all his sons. Family matters are for family not for the world.

2025-01-30 16:19:12 +0000 UTCCrocodile overall has less pure physical strength than Luffy. If neither had their devil fruits and tried to arm wrestle, Luffy would win every time. The majority of Crocodiles power comes primarily from his devil fruit and to a lesser extent, poison hook. Thats why when Luffy countered it with liquid, Crocodile folded easily. Crocodile is very powerful as long as there's no water around.

2025-01-30 15:46:00 +0000 UTCNah in hinsight with the current power scaling we know that Shanks would have NEVER lost an arm to that seamonster by accident. But the reality is Oda at that point just didn't know how crazy powerfull people would get later on and initially wrote it as Shanks loosing the arm because he couldnt save Luffy otherwise, but retrospectively the only explanation is Shanks did it on purpose to motivate Luffy.

2025-01-30 15:22:47 +0000 UTCA suggestion , dont view every dialogue said as some kind of a trick clue to decode. sometimes its as simple as “He didnt want his son to feel bad so he said that” you know like how a father would think. I love how you guys decode so many other lore stuff but in one piece relationships are not lore related (even the D as of now) so dont worry too much and use emotions to decode somethings not logic. (Note: for people who are about to comment under me and start pointing out against what I said… this is my opinion and yes I paid 10$ to say my opinion. Live with it)

2025-01-30 13:56:50 +0000 UTCI personally took the arm that Shanks lost as just a matter of Shanks having to swim out into sea and getting to Luffy in just the nick of time to save him, and the circumstances of the exact moment he got there meant he had to sacrifice his arm in order to save Luffy JUST before Luffy got eaten by the Sea King. Not that he purposely made the "choice" to let the Sea King eat his arm to make some kind of point to Luffy or anyone else. If Shanks had/did some long-range attack to kill the Sea King before it reached Luffy, he could have hurt/killed/lost Luffy as well. Remember, Luffy is just a little child at this point. When he says he "bet his arm on the next generation", for me thats just him coming to terms with his choice and putting his hopes on Luffy.

2025-01-30 13:13:34 +0000 UTCWe have a come a long way since meeeting Ace for the first time in Alabasta. Regarding Shanks I doubt Oda planned this ahead when he just started. One piece wasn’t planned to be this long when it first started.
Fabulous
2025-01-30 12:58:37 +0000 UTCWhy don't people respect croc he "killed" the rubber crackhead twice and he comes back a third time? His poison not working had him confused, then the water weakness despite him making a country of no water, I feel bad for him. In my opinion hes stronger than that wackjob moria.

2025-01-30 12:42:13 +0000 UTCIt’s completely naive to think that Chapter 1 of the manga would adhere to the rules, plot and power scaling that is later expanded upon hundreds of chapters later in the manga. I mean lol were taking during the days one piece was only meant as a one shot. So, I do fully understand Carson’s critical perspective here. However, what oda does great at is the effective usage of "improvisations" by retroactively fixing these kinds of inconsistencies by providing greater context and connections to past events and making them tie-in to the future narrative. This is how writing is and if done well, the readers won't easily identify problems with the story. Especially with things introduced so very early in one piece. For example, Whitebeard said that he was surprised that shanks lost his arm which could have been something that was improvised to build upon shanks as an emperor, maybe oda was cooking something up at that point. That was only 150+ episodes later. Or when jimbie was first mentioned in episode like 31. Did oda really have it fully planned in his head at that time, that this would be some infamous warlord and a fishman imprisoned in impel down that luffy would have to insight a prison breakout in order to rescue from the clutches of the WG, probably not at that very early juncture, but does it all make sense in the grand scheme of how things played out? yes it does. Because oda already established the warlords as a group of mercenaries for hire, allied with the World Government. So the seeds were already planted even this early before the warlords were even formally introduced as an organization. Jimbie was brought up even during the arlong park arc so the connections there were pretty obvous. Jimbie who was said to unleash a terrible monster in the east blue who turned out to be arlong. Remember that line by Yosaku. There are still aspects of this story that are yet to be revealed even with you being 400+ episodes in. The sun tatoo's which were purely maybe just an aesthetic design choice at the time, ended up being the entire back story of fishman being branded as slaves to the world nobles. So yeah you can say that oda is very consistent with his story and the things he established and setsup in his world. Oda takes great care to research and re-read past source material in order to create an interconnected series that seamlessly flows together and some of that he may have to improvise but as long as it doesn't lead to a plot hole or a dues ex machina, then who cares. This is why one piece tends to have very little contradictions in its story.

2025-01-30 12:32:28 +0000 UTCPersonally i think Crocodile is a mix of various things Both within the story's scope back then AND the story's progression throughout the years on a more 'meta' perspective. His bounty prior to being a warlord was 80Million While others like Kuma, Moria or Doflamingo had 296Million, 320Million and 340Million bounties respectively. Basically that ''Warlord level'' was already very vague. Since it's mostly a title for those who accept to give their strength to the World government. Moria mentioned that he was already fulfilling his duty of stopping many pirates by capturing them and turning them into Zombies, like Crocodile in Alabasta, besides that they were doing their own thing. Even then it took 3 fights(2 of which were basically One-sided) and a big weakness specific of his devil fruit to defeat Crocodile. I get your point about how this is the show evolving with its own set of rules Like with Shanks, now it's definitely a choice Which he mentioned back when meeting Whitebeard. '' i bet my arm on a new era ''. And don't be afraid to criticize when you feel like it. Just thought some of these informations would be important reminders.

2025-01-30 12:20:15 +0000 UTCYou mentioning the nurses reminded me of this SBS. Q: Odacchi! Question! Are there no women in the Whitebeard Pirates? I'm curious! - Ringo Odacchi! Question! Are there no women in the Whitebeard Pirates? I'm curious! --Ringo Oda: Hmm. There were female nurses on his ship during his first appearance in Volume 25. They're actually the medical team of the Whitebeard Pirate Crew. However, Whitebeard never allowed any women on his ship as fighters. That's why there were no women on his ship when they showed up at the Paramount War in Marineford. [...] He ripped off all the medical apparatuses that kept him well, sent all the tearful nurses off of the ship, and headed off to the final Battle with only men at his side!! I didn't draw it, But that was a bit of drama behind his entrance.

2025-01-30 11:54:39 +0000 UTCI don't mean to taken Lindsay's point about the diference between Roger and Ace,but i think she meant that Luffy (who is similar to Roger) never feels the need to prove himself to others or seek validation from other, while Ace goes after Whitebeard to prove himself and when he fights Jimbei he wants his reputation to increase. And that might be what Whitebeard sees as diferent between Roger and Ace.

2025-01-30 11:48:19 +0000 UTCGurararara! Many wild reveals and histories between these characters we've seen for a while now. Ace, Shanks, Teach, Whitebeard... Yes, Whitebeard's blade is a naginata and one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades(highest rank). Its name is Murakumogiri (lit. Gathering-Cloud Cutters). (Sbs Information so it's not really a spoiler, it's just not mentioned directly in the anime)
Sanji Joestar
2025-01-30 11:48:18 +0000 UTCWarlord title doesnt scale at all with the navy ranks. A pirate will never rank up from warlord to a admiral or vice admiral, and a marine will never rank up to warlord. There isnt really a "level a warlord is supposed to be". Its a political title. There is a minimal of course, but only because the governmnent wouldnt allow a slacker to become warlord, but nobody would be "too strong" to be one. Depending on their personality, if they think its worth to follow the navys orders and not have a bounty or people going after them, they become one, and thats kinda it. Its not like navy people who will rank up when they acomplish something. If you looo at bountys, crocodiles bounty before becoming warlord was 80 million, we have seem that kuma and dofflamingo had more than 300 million each

2025-01-30 11:42:20 +0000 UTCLoved the discussion. I really like this episode too. As far as I'm concerned, you don't have to apologise if you feel the need to be critical of something, I've seen that everytime your analysis goes deeper you always say "I'm not trying to criticise", in fact you didn't but if you were to one day please don't be afraid of fanboys. We're all here for the discussions and different points of view, at least I am. Also as far as I know, maybe I'm wrong, but I've read somewhere that also Oda regretted having Luffy beat Crocodile so early, but maybe I remember wrong so don't take it too serously. About powerscaling, it is present in the story for sure but I think it becomes less important if the story wants to go in a specific direction, at least that's what I always felt reading Oda. He definetly puts the story first, and yes, he really likes the wholesome stuff, that's why I fell in love with One Piece. It's a real adventure story, more than a battle shonen, of course it IS a battle shonen, but to me it's really unique. It's like the difference between a classic action RPG game and an action/adventure game, that yes may have some RPG elements but in the end the story and the adventure is the main focus, and that is perfect for a story about pirates that explore the unknown. Again, loved the reaction, loved the discussion, have a wonderful day ❤️

2025-01-30 11:19:42 +0000 UTCand to be fair that sea monster was fast as F, I recall that they laugh at it when the animation went crazy janky fast... so it could just be that Shanks doesn't have time to think nor attack but just to save Luffy at all cost

2025-01-30 10:51:38 +0000 UTCCrocodile was always insane tbh, even back then. Luffy should have actually died all three times they fought. He only survived by pure blind luck (spitting water at the perfect trajectory so that it would fall back on him) and because Robin was actively betraying Crocodile every chance she got, and Croc didn't realize until too late. If Robin hadn't swung back to save Luffy, he would have 100% died the very first time he and Crocodile fought. Just dried out and buried in the desert, never to be seen again. And the same thing would happen to the vast majority of pirates or marines that exist in the One Piece world. So to say that Luffy beat Crocodile with 'no powers' is a little disingenuous. Even with Gear 2 he'd still have died that first time. Not even Lucci ever came that close to killing Luffy even a single time, and fwiw he would have lost to Croc too.

2025-01-30 09:47:15 +0000 UTCPeople love to talk about powerscaling in One Piece because we were all raised on Dragon Ball Z and battle shonen, but I think if you stop thinking of one piece in that box and just consider it a fantasy adventure story, it's very liberating. I don't think Oda completely ignores it, but One Piece certainly is not about fighting the same way so many contemporary series are.

2025-01-30 09:42:02 +0000 UTC100% agree. I can understand how Warlords may be overlooked at this point in story because our crew has defeated two of them, but Luffy used Moria's power against him in Nightmare form and an extremely exploitable Crocodile weakness just like Jimbei who would have less power on land.

EOussama
2025-01-30 09:41:23 +0000 UTCEh that's not really a great reason. Based on Shanks's conversation with Whitebeard a few arcs ago it's clear he was considered a top tier pirate for most of his career, even way before he met Luffy. Whitebeard expressed his surprise over Shanks casually returning from the East Blue without an arm. It implies that even back then Shanks was far too strong for something that drastic to just happen after visiting one of the weakest seas. Yonko title or not, a pirate of Shanks' caliber shouldn't be losing limbs to any sea kings. Especially not ones from the East Blue. At this point it's more or less accepted that Shanks intentionally chose to sacrifice his arm for Luffy's sake.

2025-01-30 09:40:57 +0000 UTCI think your interpretation of the warlords are fair considering what you’ve seen so far in the show. When it comes to powerscaling and things like that, I think it’s beneficial to not lump every character in the same group (warlords for example). They’re individual characters, with different uses and strengths for the Government, and they are introduced at different times in the story relevant to the plot. Having Crocodile as strong as lets say Kuma in the second arc of the show wouldnt be a realistic opponent for luffy to beat as an example. The whole concept of a pirate being above the law and fighting on the world governments side is super interesting, and we see alot of different reasons why the warlords are fighting for them. Crocodile wanting control of a kingdom and searching for a weapon, Boa wanting to keep her people safe in the calm belt, Jimbei for the benefit of fishmen, Moria after his defeat in the new world and giving up on his dream. Not saying you don't know this, but just as a reminder that power level alone isnt why they are warlords

2025-01-30 09:17:28 +0000 UTCYeah Crocodile was pretty dang formidable, I feel like his level of threat was firmly on par with most of the other Warlords. He just unfortunately had a hugely exploitable weakness on top of having to deal with Luffy's insane luck. IMO Crocodile did all the right things as an antagonist, he just fell victim to that classic shonen MC plot armor.

2025-01-30 09:06:25 +0000 UTCTo point something out, Crocodile left Luffy to die twice in his fight. I understand you getting confused about the power scaling, but Luffy would not have survived a straight one-on-one duel with Crocodile. The story and power-scaling does evolve, but its not as straight forward as it may seem!
dumbphilosopher
2025-01-30 09:03:23 +0000 UTCLuffy sure has quite the habit of never mentioning anything about his life and relationships until they become relevant. Luckily it suits his character and allows for Oda to plan out these cool big reveals however he wants to.

2025-01-30 09:03:01 +0000 UTClittle correction on Blackbeard's spontaneous ambition... in Episode 325 (9:20) Blackbeard stated that the Dark Dark fruit was his goal and his luck getting it was high being on Whitebeard's ship. He even memorized what every fruit looks like. He got no choice but to kill Thatch because WB ship has a rule that the one who found it could eat it.
