One Piece Episode 476 UNCUT REACTION!

sorry this is a few hours late, I thought I had it scheduled, but I did not. My bad!

Comments

Laws broken by the SH this far in the story : i) Freed a person who was tortured being tied up in a post for defending a child against the wolves of the son of a Marin captain. ii) Climbed an execution platform iii) Stopped a civil war that was orchestrated from a government allied pirate iv) Freed their nakama that was abducted after she was blackmailed to commit murder by the government (who committed murders to obtain the blueprints of an ancient weapon for their own agenda) v) probably some petty theft and dine and dashing vi) raising a pirate flag vii) probably tax evasion Crimes committed (with Garp knowing) from the World Government: i) genocide ii) slavery iii) erasure of history iv) implied sanction of rape and torture v) planting of evidence Sure... "Above the law" depends on the law no? Is a police officer in Nazi Germany respected because he 's not stopping the arrest of his Jewish/Roma/homosexual friend? Ace is not being convicted for his crimes, his crime is announced to be that he's the son of Roger. Ace is being executed for his bloodline.

BTImelesS

Also I like how we 're saying that the pirates did nothing to save slaves, while marines went there to literally protect slave owners.

BTImelesS

I agreed that the RA are the most moral in the story, I 've already said that. Also, I'm not spoiling anything. Smoker didn't let Luffy go, Dragon stopped him. Also Smoker was waiting for a man who is as inspiring as Roger, a pirate. The whole Pirate Era was inspired from Roger. I never said the pirates fight against the WG. There are two types of pirates and this can be find even in Odas earlier works (before One Piece) where he divided the pirates to Buckaneers and Peacemain pirates. The pirates we are following (and they are not only represented by the Straw hats) are those who want to be free. Free from oppression of the WG. The revolutionaries want to bring down the WG, the peacemain pirates want to be free from the WG oppression. You keep saying "corruption" like they are getting money on the side to buy tea, this is a WG that has slaves, sanctions slavery and no, not only the CD have slaves, if you remember in the slave auction there were a lot of nobility as well. Garp saving Ace wouldn't be doing it for "his own sake or goals" but because it is not just to punish a child for "his blood". Garp knows that, Garp knows why Ace is being executed publicly and what this symbolizes he 's not stupid. He knows this has nothing to do with Aces alleged crimes, he knows that the WG was killing mothers and babies trying to kill Ace at his conception. He also knows that this is meant to be served as an example to be followed so people don't fight back against the WG, not to keep crimes from happening. I'm also sure he 's not unaware of the genocide in Ohara since he 's close with Aokiji and Sengoku. There is morality to not supporting a genocidal slave owning state of affairs, even if that means catching less thieves or murderers while doing it. Right now, he 's fighting against pirates who are there to save Ace, they are not there to plunder the innocent and we have 0 evidence that they even do that, but we have a lot of evidence of the good that Whitebeard has done for the innocent. The innocent victims of the WG that is. That's also why Jinbe is there trying to help WB. And again, breaking the law is not immoral. Morality and law don't go hand in hand, especially in this world what are we even talking about. We know what the WG has done until know, that is genocide, hiding the history, propaganda and slavery. This is not a tough moral position to say that that is a completely immoral and oppressive state.

BTImelesS

First, stop using "hidden" spoilers, second, your interpretation of WG's actions is wrong. Yes, I know what will happen later, and we will learn about WG's story and structure, but as I said before, pirates are not fighting against WG. WG's enemy is the Revolution Army. This is why Smoker let Luffy go in Logue Town, because he respects Dragon overall. Marines were never RA enemies. While the pirates were the Marine's main enemy, and pirates never cared about any innocent people. Luffy did nothing to save slaves in auction, and he wanted to help only his friend. How many slave shops on Sabaody Luffy visit before he found Caimy? And how many slaves did he try to save? Zero. That's the pirates for you - selfish people who care only about their friends. Marines, on the other hand, are people who swore to protect innocent people, who fight for civilians, and who risk their own lives not for their friends, but for other people overall. Yes, as with any human organization, in the Marine's organization, you could else face corruption, but why do you believe that the Revolution Army has no corruption? This is a false belief. If there are humans - there is always, in some sort of way, corruption. What is more, if Garp helped Ace, he would act as a corrupted Marine, because this is exactly what it means to be corrupted - break the law for own sake and own goals.

Jack Shadow

I understand Garp aswell. If a police officer were to favour his own criminal children over the law he would be understood but not respected. Even in the messed up world of OP order is still required. The marines will probably still exist once the Celestial dragons are gone, and pirates too. Just because we are follwing the straw hats doesnt make them the good guys, they still act above the law in pursuit of their own freedom

Georg Eide

The first example of Marines we 're given in East Blue is captain Morgan. Every kingdom we visit has a corrupt king that the pirates are actually liberating, be it Drum Kingdom or Alabasta. In the examples you give you can obviously see that the WG does nothing against corruption but silences freedom. I can't say a lot more without spoiling but if you actually believe that then we 're reading two completely different stories. Which is fine, there is no problem with different interpretations, but what I'm saying is that when the "rules/laws/commandments" are corrupt then the moral thing is to define me, not just accept slavery because "it's not happening to me". Also, since I'm guessing you 've read further down the story, you know that the WG does not only affect areas around Marijois, be it with slavery or other means, so what are we even talking about? Also, bringing peace to 75% of the world by oppressing, enslaving the other 25% sounds ok to you? Just wandering. Which of course it's not the case, we know that the other kingdoms don't really thrive under the WG, it's mostly a mafia boss relationship where they are buying protection.

BTImelesS

East Blue alone is bigger then New World, while there are 3 more seas, such as North Blue, West Blue and South Blue. People there usually don't ever see CD, because CD live in Marijoise. For all those people Marrines are heroes who protected em from criminals, such as pirates. It's true that Marrines organization is corrupted in some parts, but overall Marrines fight for justice and to protect civilians. Slaves of WG, such as on bridge where Robin was send, comes from countries that decided to go against the WG organization with more then 200 countries. Oppression is unfair, but truth is that history repeats itself, and after another "free world" comes another regime. WG maintained for 800 years, which bring peace more to 75% or maybe even more people who live in One Piece world. WB protection means nothing in long terms, because he is just criminal chief, who is old, and soon will be dead. The real protection comes from WG, if your country joins WG you will feel safe. This is why Drum Island joined WG. This is why Arabasta stayed in WG. This is why W7 is still the part of WG. The only reason why Younko rule in the New World, is Roger pirates and outlaws such as Whitebeard another Younko who decided that rules are written not for them, and that they can use land of New World to fight against each other, with letting people dying as the consequences of their actions. So as Garp from LA said, that you can accept reality when not everything is perfect, but still you can fight for innocent and for justice, or you will run away from reality, believing that regime is the one to blame in everything that going on. Pirates are those who brings injustice, not the WG.

Jack Shadow

I don't remember what we know about the WG at this point to answer all of your points here, but you know it's not just Sabaody where slaves are taken and that it's not the only effect the WG has on civilians. Also Whitebeard has literally protected areas under his name, not created "big organized groups". Whitebeard actually has protected civilians but again, I'm not sure where it is revealed in the story to actually give examples here. There is no Younko empire, Yonkos are separate crews, this we know, Yonkos don't work together. I agree that the Revolutionary army would be the best option from a moral ground. But again, where is the honor in supporting a corrupt system just because it's "the law". This is definitely a question that Oda pushes to the viewers, he is obviously not pointing to Garp or Sengoku as a moral authority and saying that "good" and "bad" are grey areas. Breaking the law is moral when the law is immoral. And he wouldn't do it for "his own sake" he would do it because of his own moral compass, but Garp has decided to try to change the system from within, by joining the marines and yes, fighting criminals. But Ace is not portrayed as a criminal, he 's portrayed as a pirate in this story. And pirates in this story may be labeled as criminals but we 've seen that there are a lot of different pirates. A lot of them, like Ace, are a product of the corrupt system where they grow up in.

BTImelesS

BTImelesS, Ace is the criminal with the hight bounty, he was used to lure out famous criminal, that normal people feared of. Whitebeard for the civilians is evil man that created big criminal organizated groups. WB actually is worser then just another Buggy or Morgan why? Because of WB actions, huge outlaws groups was created, which became Younko Empire - organized criminal group, that has really big numbers and to fight each other for power criminals aim to grow on numbers even more. Slavery of WG is not an excuse for outlaws go wild. There's no slavery in whole world except Sabaody. Yes you have Celestial Dragons, but the most famous civilan people opressors are not CD but pirates and outlaws. Usually normal people didn't even have an opportunity to meet CD. Also there is another group Revolution Army that actually care about normal people and fight against WG, not the Marrines. While WB wanted to destroy Marrines, without caring about consequences of his actions. So Garp did nothing wrong, more to that he deserved honor and respect for not breaking law, for own sake.

Jack Shadow

@Jack Shadow : If I was in a system where the "law" was to support slave owners and I knew about it (as Garp does now), I would have the moral responsibility to go against that system. As it is the case for most police officers in most countries right now. When your job is to protect the corrupt elites (and not so much the "innocent" people, as it is apparent in a lot western societies right now for example) , you need a job change to remain morally consistent. If you are not and you want to remain a moral person, then you will end up in a cognitive dissonance as Garp is right now and that's what the show wants to show I feel like. That's why Garp says "I don't know what to do", because although he believes in order and justice he can clearly see that Ace is being executed NOT because "he killed innocent people or marines (who are not innocent btw, they are there to protect the status quo which is a racist society with slaves, rape etc... )" but they are killing him for his blood. Stripping all this from its nuances feels like a bit like we 're completely ignoring what Oda wants to say.

BTImelesS

Same, nothing can really make me like Garp.

L.Joy

I love Akainu stopping whitebeard with his foot. He is a monster

cyberc33

Matthew Gilroy, law always protected people from outlaws and criminals. Even in country with oppression regime, such as North Korea or Russia, law still protects innocent people. Also you don't need to became a pirate to be a good person. Coby is good young man who fight for innocent people. While pirates are outlaws.

Jack Shadow

Jack Shadow and who makes the law? The Celestial Dragons. Garp is a coward. Slow and old too

Matthew Gilroy

Realistically Ace and Luffy have both absolutely killed marines. Even if the superficial stats may not back that up to preserve Luffy's shounen protagonist status, its undeniable that realistically at least 10s of marines died by his hands in Enies Lobby.

ChocoBoshi

Not the same thing, cause ace hasn’t murdered any innocent ppl, plus they are trying to execute him off the sole fact of who his father is.

E

Luffy technically didn't kill anyone, but I definitely agree. It's like luffy associated under the pursuit of something that nasty figures are apart of (a man helps hide the evidence of the murder, so to speak)

Meow-Mao

If your son became a criminal who murdered people, while you was famous cop, would you help him break out of prison? If you break law for your own goals, how can you call yourself a cop? So if you break law for yourself(your family) who gives you right to arrest another criminal who was doing the same thing?

Jack Shadow

I get all the reasons why garp did what he did but I still hate him. Nothing can ever make me like garp😒

E

Whitebeard's "serious face" is due to him currently fighting Akainu. You can see the blood dripping from his mouth

Matthew Gilroy

Much like how people acknowledge Rayleigh because of his past infamy, but yet Kizaru was comfortably clashing with him, with Rayleigh himself huffing and saying he was getting a little old

Matthew Gilroy

Basically Whitebeard respects Garp because of his clout from the past and is just shit talking the admirals because he doesn't respect them

Matthew Gilroy

That's because Garp has clout and a reputation from back in the day. Where's this anti-Admiral agenda coming from? Kizaru has been taking the piss and in this ep Akainu confidently approached and clashed with Whitebeard with his foot

Matthew Gilroy

There is a visual significance in Garp alone sitting on the middle chair where the admirals are supposed to be. A lone pillar of reluctant, but firm Justice when all others have abandoned their posts to squabble.

Arkham

Aokiji steps to Whitebeard; Whitebeard smiles and calls him a squirt. Kizaru challenges Whitebeard; Whitebeard rolls his eyes and tells him to turn down the lights. Akainu challenges Whitebeard; Whitebeard laughs and tells him to bring it on. Garp steps up. Whole battlefield stops and goes Oh damn, Garp's participating. Marines, instant morale boost: "Garp's fighting, hell yeah we got this." Pirates, instant morale drop "Oh no, the legendary marine is on the move." Whitebeard, serious face, "Alright, this will be challenging."

June Nwik

Thanks. I was wondering if he maybe had something other than justice

Nicolas LeBlanc

The symbol in the back means “justice” they pointed at it on purpose cause Marco went to save Ace (whos a criminal to the Marines) and Garp stopped him with his punch.

Rey

I wonder what sort of things Garp did for the Navy, for him to earn that recognized title "hero of the marines" It’s an interesting thing to think about, given that he obviously exhibits power and authority that go beyond just a vice admiral.

Artemis

Garp is a symbol of the navy. He is their hero, all the marines and civilians look up to him. That’s why it would be extremely dangerous for him to help free Ace and he knew that.

Mo

In a flashback Dragon didn’t even want to talk to Ivankov about being from the East Blue, so it’s possible he just doesn’t know much about his past

Leighton

Best way to experience the show, not checking episodes remaining/titles etc :) Good on ya to do that. About Sengoku not asking Garp to fight: he knows it's his family, he already said as much in an earlier episode. So I guess he understands his internal struggle and told him he doesn't have to do anything in the fight or something. Just expects him to not turn against his beliefs even if it gets tough. Kind of shows they most likely have a good relationship.

Jambron

But he doesn't kill him. He could have done it so easily.

edgard

Red Dog finally showing his powers! Also Garp broke Marco's transformation so he is actually build different, but old tho. Interesting that Ivankov called Garp as Hero of Marrine, but not as Dragon's father.

Jack Shadow

Not Kizaru nonchalantly sending Luffy flying like a ragdoll💀

Matthew Gilroy

Can’t spell Luffy without L

Fabulous

💀

Whoopsie

No worries about the upload, hope the recovery's been going well! Always happy to hear how you both think the story will develop!!

idziman

At the 18m36s mark of this video you see a pause on Garp's coat which I am guessing says Hero of the Marines or Justice. I just noticed it this time watching

Nicolas LeBlanc

Hope you feel better soon Carson!! 🤜🤛

Nazo

Granny Nyon telling Luffy he'll be an ant in the middle of this storm hits harder as you see him barely able to do literally anything and getting tossed.

Sanji Joestar

Garp ist probably the most famous Marine for the public & many Marines. If he would do nothing or go against the Marines it would be devastating for all normal people/marines. And the message would be we cant count on the Navy. Just a shit position he is in...

Kyu

Have a good recovery.

Monkey D. Lucci

there's definetly worst places to stop at this arc haha good recovery, man!

giogio

Garp stepping in... the dread keeps getting worse😬😭

Sanji Joestar

(Talking to past Boldcast) Honestly good episode to leave it off compared to the previous ones. Hope you're doing better now.

Sanji Joestar

Luffy really out of his league here, even NPC-looking mfs are doing more than him it looks like. Definitely a rookie like he's been named countless times before. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA The wait begins.

EOussama

The throat goat at it again

Porco

Making things difficult

Bootyman555

Shout out to Carson’s throat

Bootyman555
