🌀 One Piece Episode 486 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

What the hell does this mean

Bootyman555

NGL man, I love how this girl speaks like Morty sometimes.

Colonel Violet

Just gonna add that nobody could do anything because Blackbeards crew is actually formidable and they would've had to go through them before getting to him. He also did what he did in under 30 seconds probably.

Sloth

Really interesting points @Extra Crispy. Thank you for a thoughful response instead of shutting me down with witty remarks like a lot of people do. Can you tell @Artemis to chill out too, considering he was telling people to "stfu" under the episode 484 comment section which is something far worse than I've ever done, and then he decides to preach to me here about respect. I don't want to come off as rude when I say this, but I can't stand hypocrites

Matthew Gilroy

You just gotta stop entering conversation like they are arguments man. This ain’t Twitter big dog there’s no need for this energy you’re carrying so chill out 😂.

Extra Crispy

First of all one piece literally does make characters hit harder because friendship. During enies lobby they literally go “we’re stronger now because we know we’re fighting for our friend” Second of all you understandably probably didn’t see this but I commented before about how interesting marineford was for its distinct lack of shonen friendship/ anger based power ups. I’m not against emotions making someone more powerful either if that’s consistently done like in dragon ball where you and the characters in the world know being angry makes you stronger or if there’s a choice made like with gon in hunter hunter rage drove him to make a choice that made him stronger it didn’t literally make him stronger. Third I do enjoy the power scaling side of one piece because it’s fun to argue with people about stuff that doesn’t really matter; but I usually only do it in the abstract. Fights that are ongoing I don’t usually get into the weeds with because I just want to enjoy the story. Power scaling is fun for theorizing about fights that will never happen or fights that won’t happen for a long time.

Extra Crispy

I mean you could use another word besides “vibe” if you like but what I’m saying is that characters hold to their intended function within the world and story more than they hold to a set level power. Which is to say one piece power scaling is relative to other characters not to any real world measure. Like one piece characters aren’t measure by how much weight they can lift or how fast they can run or how big of a space they can destroy. Crocodile is meant to be strong but not the strongest which is where he stays the whole series; even after the scale of the series changes crocodile is the same amount of strength relative to other characters in the story. Mihawk is defined as the world’s greatest swordsman around equal to shanks and stronger than Zoro which means however strong Zoro is Mihawk will be stronger than him until they fight and Zoro becomes the strongest. This is its own form of consistency character based scaling I feel actually holds up more than other more arbitrary ways of measuring strength.

Extra Crispy

Artemis, you told @Degenrick to "stfu" in the episode 484 comment section. That is worse than anything I've ever said.😂 Point taken though mate

Matthew Gilroy

Oda knows he has to make the elements within his story as consistent as possible, and therefore considers power. The Crocodile example you gave is a perfect example. He made it make sense through Crocodile's natural weakness. Boiling Oda's decision making down to just "vibes" is an absurd simplification of all the decision making and thought processes he puts behind things.

Matthew Gilroy

I can literally sit here and type an essay on how every major manga artist absolutely ignores power scaling in most major series. There are VERY few where it actually matters, and thats usually when it is a core part of the show. Like Afro Samurai.

Kevin Croft

First guy is right. No matter what the longer you go the enemy will be stronger. Think about Crocodile... he was holding his own against Mihawk and Doflamingo but he was the first big villain. If Luffy beat him at base form G2 luffy should have been fine to fight Mihawk. Saying it shows his lack of understanding and being rude about it is unnecessary beause in my eyes you're too obsessed with power scaling people, so much that you think someone who doesn't can't understand the story. Power scaling has nothing to do with the actual story my guy.

Kevin Croft

When you realize if Luffy had run into Boa as an enemy he woulda been packed up in 2 kicks lol

Kevin Croft

BB is one weird mysterious dude. Fun enough the real Blackbeard, Edward Teach, was meant to be wild. Seems he lit fuses in his beard to look spooky, drank gunpowder rum like a lunatic, and once held an entire town hostage just for meds. His death? Insane... he got shot and stabbed a ton but kept going until someone chopped off his head… (which ironically sounds more like Whitebeard here). The rumours/legends about blackbeard then said his body swam around the boat several times after his head got cut off. Oda loves mixing history and myth, and BB is no exception. In real life, Teach was sometimes spelled Thatch, which is wild considering Blackbeard (Teach) kills Thatch in the manga. Coincidence? Probably not. Plus, real Blackbeard wasn’t even the captain at first but served under another pirate before taking over, sound familiar ?

Jambron

In what universe am I underestimating Oda’s writing? I’m being realistic about the writing process

BOLDcast

@Matthew Everything in your post is ok but try to refraim from saying stuff like this: "shows a lack of desire to comprehend what you're reading / watching" These are more personal attacks that are uneeded. Your a smart man and you have very valid points and make strong enough cases for the information that you contribute as a critique, but try to keep from defaming people.

Artemis

I would argue in the case of Fairy Tail, people just didn't know what they were getting into and completely skip dialogue on how the Magic system works. They establish it very early that the characters can draw in additional magic based on their emotions. So if their protecting their friends, or getting a speech from them they get a boost. Its also not like One PIece doesn't do the same thing. For example when Luffy is fighting Lucci, he is literally finished and can't get up. Usopp literally has a friendship speech to get him up so that he can beat Lucci. I don't see many getting upset of this aspect of One Piece. Its just because Fairy Tail does it all the time, that it comes off as cheesy for watchers, while in One Piece its used sparingly. I still think One Piece is way better the Fairy Tail, but Fairy Tail is overly criticized for friendship speeches when its a main aspect of Shonen in general.

Cheddah Slammer

Heavy disagree on this. Using terms like "vibes" or "they're as strong as they need to be in the current story" just shows a lack of desire to comprehend what you're reading / watching. There has to be consistency, otherwise you get shows with flaws like Fairy Tail. Now attempting to reduce it all down to numbers and tiers is a problem. But that doesn't make powerscaling not hugely important in OP. If an author is wishy washy with powerscaling then the entire story becomes unsatisfying. Because that destroys the illusion that the story is really happening and it isn't just about whoever the author wants to win. In the end, it is about what the author wants, but good writing is about making the events believable. Making the events believable means making the levels of power consistent. And making the levels of power consistent means you can infer which characters are stronger than others. *Cough* the Admirals *Cough* Obviously, that doesn't mean that it's universal. Characters have unique powers and can do well in unique match ups. Some characters ar exceptions within their general ranks. But people who think it just doesn't matter are actively choosing to ignore one of the best aspects of OP that Oda put a TON of effort into making consistent and believable. Powerscaling matters in OP because Oda tries to make believable reasons for why characters win fights and never bullshits. Luffy won against Crocodile and Enel due to their natural weakness but he still isn't stronger than them, and gets clowned on by almost every character at Marineford. Oda might sometimes have powerups that weren't set up a lot (Gear 3) but those power ups will EXIST and have an understandable reason why they would make the character stronger. It doesn't just make them hit harder because friendship👍🏽

Matthew Gilroy

Why would they tell anyone else about it? So people can covet the fruit even more? So some idiot marine can write down “the darkness fruit lets you eat multiple fruits” or tell all his friends about it? They keep secrets for a reason.

Coqnbauz

And not even the 5 elders know this? Even with the debil fruit being in the enciclopedia

pedro I.S

You guys were cooking with some of these little theories. Cool stuff.

testlunch

Nah Carson your speaking facts oda does like to drop the world building equivalent of flares in order to either throw people off an idea or to leave the door open for future stuff he might want to implement. Thats not a sign of bad writing that’s a sign of experience and understanding your own limitations. Nobody can write a series for like 30 years and not change their mind about some stuff that would be insane.

Extra Crispy

I love that Carson understands one piece is mostly about vibes and that power-scaling comes second. As you can imagine there’s a large percentage of one piece fans who don’t understand that and take power scaling insanely seriously. I remember there was a fight that was happening mostly off screen and we’d only occasionally get a panel confirming it was still happening and people were counting the number of breaths each person was taking to try and see who was more tired and therefore losing. Stupid or not this community has to be one of the funniest ones because “huff scaling” is outrageous 😂.

Extra Crispy

And also why he experiences 2x the pain of a normal person

Matthew Gilroy

So his devil fruit "came" out of him?😂

Matthew Gilroy

the them theory was prob because they meant the other crew members of blackbeard that were hiding when luffy talked with him and not bb as 2 personas

Ry tix

In addition to what Luffy and Zoro said during Jaya, my personal theory is that Blackbeard is always technically nerfed when standing in light as that is the opposing force to his Devil Fruit, like water to sand and rubber to electricity, so he goes under that sheet to utilise his Devil Fruit's full power. This could be a complicated mechanic to write around tho so maybe not

SomeoneElse

CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER

SomeoneElse

Don't bring Carson to any movie, dude will spoil everything before watched it

死亡 感官

Blackbeard didn't initially wanted to capture Ace. He just want any big pirate to just have some sort of credibility to be a Warlord. Remember Lafitte's reply to Sengoku when he rebutted that he doesn't even know Blackbeard and his crew? Lafitte said "We're working on that." and then when Blackbeard found out Luffy got 100k bounty, he wanted to capture him when they're about to go to Sky Island... then later, Blackbeard even ask Ace to join his crew and capture Luffy.

josephocenada

Shanks hinted there being something off about Blackbeard when he met with Whitebeard.

Will.Har310

He gave him the succ

UltimaJosh

I should mention the relation that Blackbeard has with number 3, his guns, his jolly roger and other things... so one popular theory is that he will have 3 devil fruits at the end

Luis Mira

All part of the plan

Heero Marks

The "them" theory has always been the least plausible theory IMO, we all know what really happened under that sheet. He sucked his dick.

Arkham

Yeah I remember Carson and Lindsey thinking she was weak and Luffy could take her because she couldn’t love beam him. Boa would’ve bodied Luffy with zero difficulty if she wanted to.

Solas

I mean go rewatch the fight Blackbeard says his power absorbs everything even pain. That’s why he gets hit a lot.

Rated_E

Remember when SH's first met BB in Jaya? Nami refered to BB has "him". Luffy and Zoro stated, "It's not him" but "Them probably".

Fabian Gloor

7:23 ayo, wtf

Swolebody daddy

I always assumed that Blackbeard is insanely nerfed when there is any light touching him So during the day time (and whenever there’s a light source like moonlight or artificial lights or fire), he can’t use his DF to its full extent and by using a black veil to conceal himself in TOTAL darkness, he is finally able to So this would be the full power of the darkness fruit: the ability to steal DF abilities

Coqnbauz

100%. He is a pirate through and through.

Artemis

Killing Whitebeard and Thatch and stealing their fruit for himself is pretty fitting since the real Blackbeard was named Edward Teach/Thatch, the second being a variation of his name.

Gino

Top 3 mvp of this saga for sure

Gino

At this time I would just like to acknowledge how broken Boa is. She's gotten through the entire war so far without getting so much as scratched, and can one shot opponents that the Straw Hat Pirates have considerable difficulty taking down as a team. It's a good thing she took a shine to Luffy or Amazon Lily would have ended with her beating him to death for insulting her, and it probably wouldn't have even been a challenge for her.

Lews Therin Telamon

Blackbeard a certified Freak

Degenerick

☝️🤓

Degenerick

Bold cast is a first-time watcher and binging the series at their own pace. There not someone that experienced one piece religiously for the past 20+ years, read interviews, broke down theories week after week, etc. So, we are for sure going to have a lot more knowledge of past events in the story than they are, but my hope is that they eventually connect all these pieces together in time as they continue the journey. Oda loves to be extremely subtle when it comes to telegraphing or foreshadowing things and unless you’re someone that re-watches OP multiple times or studies past chapters with a photographic lens, you’re not going to see all the connections on a first-time watch with a show/manga as long as this. A lot of us I think just want to remind you of these subtle moments that have now led to an answer in the story, so you can see with your own eyes how oda planted seeds for future plot developments. We don’t intend to validate your theories. We want you to be free to express your thoughts as much as possible and openly without the fear of someone confirming information that you shouldn’t know.

Artemis

seems like you forgot the main differentiation of Logia that their body are transformative, most attacks usually go through

josephocenada

Akainu is definitely the classiest Admiral.

EOussama

I mean, that's his logia fruit ability? He even explains it to Ace

Gino

Black beard has actually been planned since the very beginining. There are many points in the story were oda has dropped little bread crumbs and subtle clues throughout. Some of which, we still can't tell you about because the resulting answers are even further in the story then this. So the makings of his entire character was pre-planned by oda as a concept much earlier on.

Artemis

ngl i think jjk is more inspired by yyh, hxh and bleach than one piece, other than stuff where they might have have drawn from the same older material (journey to the west etc) i personally haven't picked up on any major one piece references in that series

Iris Mit

lots of One Piece fans who caught up to the anime tend to rewatch some scenes especially now that they emphasized that there's a mystery about Blackbeard... We know you guys aren't at that point yet so it's worth mentioning that even back then, when Ace fought Blackbeard, he noticed his body being vulnerable while having a logia fruit... even when Luffy attacked him at Impel Down, also Whitebeard... that fact can be added to theory crafting later

josephocenada

"that’s to much power for one person to have" lol. Yep, Blackbeard is that guy. He is the first person in history to be a possessor of two fruits. That is why shanks warned Whitebeard about ace confronting him. His Devil fruit is super unique to the point that it follows its own logistics that are separate to all devil fruits known in the series. Because the cardinal rule has always been that no ONE person can have two fruits at the same time other wise they will instantly die. Also his body composition could be a factor at play during the absorption process. Why else would he want to hide himself? Anyways That is the "Show" that he wanted to reveal to the world.

Artemis

For me it was the previous episode. I'm sure for others it could be Ace's death or his father reveal. This is how good this saga is, so many crazy things happening at once.

Zoodinger

People introduced as villains only to become nakama or friends. And people introduced as friends or even possible nakamas (like CP9) but become enemies. So same with Blackbeard, when he was introduced I thought he'd be an eccentric good guy on their side for that arc. There might be times when it's obvious it's what Oda is planning (like with the guerillas in Skypeia from one point on) when he wants you to expect it, but when he wants me to be fooled I fall for it every time.

Zoodinger

In skypeia when Blackbeard gave his famous " Dream " speech. After they left Luffy and Zoro say " They " when Nami ask about Blackbeard

Tony

Worth pointing out that Blackbeard did not plan for this war because he initially wanted Luffy (and not Ace) just so he could be a Warlord, and so it seems to be getting crew members from Impel Down was his initial plan. But he did also imply he wanted to go after Whitebeard when he was fighting Ace. So he got incredibly lucky because the circumstances allowed him to get both at the same time. (I edited my comment to remove something that might have been a spoiler)

Zoodinger

Carson continuing to underestimate just how much of the main plot and themes Oda had planned from the beginning. The further you get the more you notice that everything just fits way too well

Hoid

Oh sorry if it came off that way. I’ll make sure not to do that in the future. I just wanted to remind you of what seems to be important information and information that you guys already know about. I’m sorry if I somehow reveled too much, love your videos and keep with the theories. 🙌💕

Kiki Varas

Yeah No worries I get you both Would be preferable to edit those parts out too Edit: oh well

Sanji Joestar

thanks for wanting to help us out, but honestly this feels kinda leading and also with stuff like this, by telling us this kind of information you guys are all kinda telling us that these mysteries aren't revealed yet. Which means we know that the answers dont come within the next 700 episodes or so. Which in a way is kind of a spoiler This is why we're hard-asses about spoiler talk, because its easy to reveal more things than you intend

BOLDcast

Yeah I agree, I don’t want to bring theories that the current fandom has and information. Thats why I just wanted to remind them about a scene that happened before skypiea and let them theorize whatever with that information. Bc they have watched so many episodes and it’s hard to remember all the information and maybe little foreshadowing moments that has happened. So it’s just a reminder. 🙌

Kiki Varas

Love the facts you guys are bringing in but please refrain from saying what the current fandom knows, doesn't know or theorizes about🙏🏽

Sanji Joestar

And if you realize that the blackbeard jolly roger is three headed skull, what is that mean ? Its something that even fans don't find the answer yet hahaha but i know its something crazy about it

Hendra

"how?!" is the million dollar question that's for sure

Clockwerk9000

This is one of the episodes that I've been waiting for since I first subbed to the Patreon back during Arlong Park. It's one of my favorite moments in One Piece. It's just so ridiculously hype. Blackbeard is out here playing 7D Chess, making totally unprecedented plays and changing the world forever. I love a good villain, and I fucking love Blackbeard. He's probably in my top three characters in One Piece (along with Buggy and Robin, I think). He's such a rat, but he's also so ruthless, quick-thinking, and absolutely terrifying. You know when he shows up that shit's gonna go down. One Piece would be a much worse show with him.

Isaac Sato

Just a reminder for you guys. Before they went to Skypiea, Luffy, Zoro and Nami met Blackbeard for the first time. After they finish talking to Blackbeard and start walking away. Nami says, “I wonder who He is.” Luffy responds saying “I don’t know but it’s not He.” Nami is confused and asks “Then what.” Zoro responds “ It’s ‘They’ probably.” Just wanted to remind you guys about this information about Blackbeard bc it does seem to foreshadow something about Blackbeard and his body.

Kiki Varas

Love the talk about the possible specifics of the transfer even if they would end up not mattering Don't limit yourself in theorizing 🔥 😂the Rouge case was a wild one ngl but still fun to hear about

Sanji Joestar

The part of the twins living inside him was actually what i always thought would expplain this lol. Specially with his pirate flag having 3 skulls

pedro I.S

Blackbeard has the power of god and anime on his side now

Skele

People cheering at the death of one of the old legends/four emperors really paints a different picture about how perception works when it comes to this story. Rayleigh drinking while tearing up at Whitebeard's passing always gets me❤️

Sanji Joestar

Jinbe saw Luffy and knew he's HIM!

Sanji Joestar

For the Marines being on stand by, yeah it can feel contrived especially with anime time and Kizaru Just technically speaking in this case Lafitte warned them not to come close while they're guarding Blackbeard And since they had no way of knowing this of all things would happen... SURPRISE!

Sanji Joestar

The absolute horror once you realize what Blackbeard just did makes this reveal probably one of my favorite in the whole he really came in and rewrote the game. Zehahaha

Sanji Joestar

Sheeesh! Remember when he was just the goofy ahh cherry pie guy back in Jaya?

100Rainy

How did he do it We’ll never know
