'Dying in the war' doesn't embarrass them as much, but putting a hit on Moria would make them look bad for even enlisting and trusting him, so that's the coverup.

2025-03-22 09:35:45 +0000 UTCWhile it will be cool if they consolidate those Rayleigh/Luffy scenes, it's also good that they spread it out so the episodes of other Strawhats' journey wouldn't be feel so episodic... they are all now canon by the way, just the episode 506 was pure anime canon. While cliffhangers and blindsiding the audience are kinda frustrating, it made another mystery, it's cool to see you guys engaged and making theories, can't wait for you guys to see all of it

The news story was cover for that happening so the public would think Moria got taken out in the fighting. Most people were already gone when Doflamingo did that, especially Mihawk who bailed as soon as Shanks showed up. So when Mihawk said that story was false, it's because as far as he knew Moria was still fine.
