It’s got some of my favorite characters and a really shocking amount of great emotional moments. Also it’s just so dumb and it knows that about its self and leans into it which I really respect. Like (spoilers) how they manage to survive agnologia the first time on the island is one of my favorite things ever. The fact that they survived getting murdered by a super dragon by holding hands and friendshipping their way through it is so fairytale and so fucking funny it’s what sealed my love for the show the fact that it just did that without any shame is just perfect.

Funny to me that lot of you seems to find illogical the nami/kalifa fight, but then please explain me how is it logical that Luffy has beaten Croco with basically 3 punches? Cause even without fighting him he could have easilly kill Luffy, Robin and Cobra by leaving and drown the place into sands. Oda clearly nerfed Croco way more than Kalifa IMO. Kalifa has only been flexing on galley la shiprwrights (and not the big ones) and they are clearly below basic marine level which is already really really low.. After that we saw from Chapapa boy that she is the weakest of the CP9. That being said, i'm agree than Kalifa would have been more dangerous if she had used more the six power than her devil fruit but I intrepret it more with Kalifa underesmating Nami (like many here) than Oda nerfing her, but once again only my opinion. The whip is a good example for me, ok it can cause a lot of damage but i can definitevely see nami blocking attack with the clima tact and is this whip conduct electricity ? Cause if yes then it's game over. For me all I see is just Nami developping her capabilities against a hard matchup for her like all SH in this arc. And lot of nitpicking too lol

Not to people who just ate it. Its even shown to the Live action the young luffy learning how to use his power. And Kaku’s is learning very fast. Carson saying Kaku is nerf does not mean he is nerfed. I think you’re blinded by hate that you’re forgetting some details. The only thing that is ‘nerfing’ Kaku is his pride and how much he is a show off. He likes to showcase his tricks even the tricks he does not have complete control 😂

These 2 characters always have the best choreographies. And like a said I prefer the context/stories around the fight for ex: NamixKalifa both uses their sexually but Nami is smarter SanjixWolf guy. (i forgot the name) Sanji has principles vs wolf guy is a dirty trickster ChopperxKumadori the japanese guy who uses refined poems and always acts righteous in trying to do Seppuku but is actually a coward vs Chopper’s brave decision to take the 3rd rumble ball and become his worst nightmare FrankyxBall guy 😂 who always spills the beans and betray his friends vs Franky who would never ever betray his people

2024-07-30 04:00:24 +0000 UTCI actually think the shonen fans that want to only see fights probably consider Enies Lobby one of the best One Piece arcs. If you value story over fights then you know (especially on a rewatch like me) that this arc has problems, and has a lot of issues that I thought Oda had left behind before Skypeia. Most of the story behind these fights are non-existent. The strawhats and fighting CP9 because they want to save Robin. That's great and all because Robin's flashback was good, but is very basic shonen storytelling. Also, like Carson mentioned most of CP9 has been nerfed or their character completely changed for a cheap gag. I like Skypeia more because it is non-typical and demands the audience to pick our brains and read between the lines. Oda was a more skilled storyteller during that time I'm afraid

Story telling wise. I love the sense of adventure and freedom I felt during Skypiea. I watch it during my elementary days like what 20 years ago WTF. 😂😂 Water 7/Enies lobby killed me. But being very young and innocent 😂 I did not appreciate/understand some of the important nuances of the story until I rewatch it in my late teens. Just dropping by to say don’t fight over this. Both have pros and cons as all of the other saga.

The context/story around the fights are more important to me 🥰🥰 🤔 I think this is the reason why shounen fans who only want to see fights hates One piece. It blinds people from appreciating a good story. This is the same issue with Tensura/Slime nowadays and it is disappointing 😒😒😒

I cared more for the Shandians than I did for the Galley la people and Franky Family. Worst part of Skypeia was Ball Ordeal but you people act like its the worst thing to grace Shonen Jump. Hattori was an actual threat, introduced us to Mantra and could use it effectively. Way better fight than Sea Train fights (Noodle guy and Nero for example) and Enies Lobby filler antagonists like Justice guys

Enies Lobby absolutely clears Skypeia and it's not even CLOSE. The moment to moment plot of Enies Lobby is infinitely more interesting and engaging than 99% of Skypeia, that fact is exactly why it can have more padding and recap and STILL feel like an S tier arc. It's not bias it's just that good. Again, to reiterate, I think Skypeia is easily an A tier arc

But it created quite the storm amongst the communities and nothing like it was ever done in shonen before censorship, Taking a bath in the middle of a fight. Which to japanese audiences it was nothing new because it was shown in many super sentai shows and toku works of the day, but it was a strange concept for us westerners. I still remember because of culture sensibilities, they removed one paticular scene with the pink ranger in power rangers were she was taken a bath and got out of the tub naked to battle her foe well trying to put her clothes on and using a towel to dodge and block his attacks. Classic Japanese trope.

That just isn't a very satisfying reason for someone to win a fight so I didn't make that a main point in my post. I feel like the argument could be made about Mrs. Double Finger as well and if that's the main reason you cite for why Nami wins her fights then they don't feel as deserved in my opinion. I definitely credit Nami's wits over her "underestimateability", she spent 8 years alone at sea ripping off pirates, she's clever and can handle herself more than I think some fans give her credit for. She for sure plays into the "helpless woman" thing on purpose as well which boosts her "underestimateability" in a way that I think is more creditable as a skill rather than just a trait.

2024-07-30 01:22:56 +0000 UTCTotally agree with you guys when it comes to Kalifa seemingly being nerfed in her fight against Nami. You are giving totally fair criticism and I'm not trying to detract from that, I just want to add some of the things that I take into consideration as well. Kalifa, although more stoic, *is* a goofy character. Since her introduction she has been shown to be a sort of quirky character who comes off as someone who always knows what they are doing when in reality she is just more reserved than other goofy characters. She has back and fourths with Paulie about her attire, she flips between being really nice to Iceberg and resorting to full on violence in a matter of seconds, she says that basically anything that Spandam says is sexual harassment (fair). In this episode we even see her give away that Nami guess her powers right as well as making a sheep out of her bubbles for no real reason. All this to say, her gaining powers and then making the decision to go all in with them in a fight which she perceives to be a sure win, since she just beat the 3rd strongest combatant on Nami's crew with ease (I know she doesn't know Sanji is 3rd strongest but still), doesn't seem out of the question for her. Now moving on to Nami's combat potential. We know for a fact that Nami's physical damage output potential is low, she isn't going to be able to punch though any walls or anything like that. But, as has been shown throughout the story, she is very smart. She stole Kumadori's key without him noticing and we know he is relatively strong and quick. Aside from the Rankyaku in Icebergs building she has consistently dodged attacks from capable combatants. All this to say that Nami, while not a combatant in the same way Luffy, Zoro and Sanji are, has always been someone who is smart when it comes to strategy. The way I look at Kalifa in relation to Nami is that Kalifa outmatches Nami physically by a wide margin while Nami outmatches Kalifa strategically by an equal margin. So, whereas the fight between most of the other strawhats (Usopp usually excluded) comes down to a showdown between two similarly matched opponents in terms of physicality, Nami's fights so far are usually about the strategic discrepancy and overcoming brawn with brain. I totally understand what you are saying and I'm not trying to discount it at all, just trying to add to it a bit. I do wish that it was choreographed a bit better as not to make Kalifa look like a loser here, but I think from an in world standpoint this matchup isn't actually as far off as you may perceive it to be.

The trick is that when you meet someone who isn’t like that they are SO dangerous it catches you off guard and whenever they are on screen you can’t help be on edge because they will just merk people at the drop of a hat; people who are further in the story can probably think of a few examples of this but there’s one guy who’s this energy but to the max and he is scary as hell to have on screen because of it.
