DON’T MAKE A PLEDGE THROUGH THE iOS APP! (PSA)
Added 2024-08-12 15:05:58 +0000 UTCTLDR; Starting November 2024, if you use the Patreon iOS app, NEW users will be charged more money. But if you pledge on the website on desktop, then things will remain normal. This change will not affect your pledge if you started pledging BEFORE November 2024. This change also ONLY affects new iOS pledges, not old ones. You can also still use the app and view content, as long as you don’t make a purchase in the app itself.
Patreon just updated their pricing system that now forces a 30% markup for users pledging to creators via the IOS app.
Changes will take effect starting November 2024
Currently, creators have a choice to either receive 30% less money from pledges made through the iOS app, OR to place that burden onto their patrons.
We, along with the majority of creators are choosing to increase pricing for users who pledge through the IOS app (even though we really don’t want to). HOWEVER, this extra charge can be easily avoided by simply making a pledge via desktop, or otherwise NOT within the iOS app.
So basically, nothing will really change as far as pricing goes, UNLESS you are making the pledge in the app. After which, content can still be viewed in the mobile app as normal. Just don’t spend money IN THE APP.
Again, if your pledge began before November 2024, then nothing will change for you, this only effects new pledges made in/after November2024 specifically when made in the iOS app itself.
