Wings is on cover story in manga, it's 100% canon, anime just does not adapt it . And I'm sure it will be super relevant in the final saga. You guys can read it off-screen when you have time. Just search "Enel's Great Space Operations"

2024-08-16 07:48:10 +0000 UTCLindsay... as a fellow mermaid enjoyer as a girl, thank you for that amazing reference. As far as foreshadowing goes, as with most characters in the series, there is a gigantic hint with her facial features. Her smile and face looks like an Icefish.

2024-08-12 14:34:38 +0000 UTCYou watched enough anime to understand that "granpa" not nessecary means biological grandma. P.S. How dare you insult Kokoro?

2024-08-12 14:33:41 +0000 UTCFun fact: the first time we saw a mermaid appear in the manga was in the cover story of Hachi (the octopus fish-man from Arlong's crew), which took place during the Arabasta fights With Kokoro though, her having scales & talking to a frog are what indicated her mermaid reveal

2024-08-12 13:18:48 +0000 UTCAlso the Beautiful mermaid Sanji was imagining later on the ship is actually Kokoro when she was younger Oda drew her in her youth in a Sbs and i guess the anime decided to add it
Sanji Joestar
2024-08-12 13:06:25 +0000 UTCI don't want to divulge anything about if or when you might get any answers to questions about races or biology, but I can promise you that Oda does think about these things. Some information is also given through other sources than the story. I'm sure you have heard of the SBS sections, basicly Q&A where Oda answers some fans questions.

2024-08-12 13:00:00 +0000 UTCBruuuh even after all of these years I was never able to unsee that nightmarish Kokoro mermaid form. Mini Luffy punching Lucci is so cute ^^

2024-08-12 12:56:13 +0000 UTCDon't worry even when reading it week to week, almost everyone got caught off guard that Kokoro was revealed to be a mermaid, Oda is very subtle with foreshadowing sometimes and there are things you wont realize until it happened. 1. in the manga she got scales in her ankle is some of the panels. (almost no one noticed it, because back then, there's not much theorists and people see OP as just goofy and Void Century had just been revealed as a plot point) 2. Kokoro can talk to a literal frog 3. She isn't afraid of Aqua Laguna 4. She's married to a fishman 5. She looks like a shark/fish...(I mean look at her teeth and nose)

2024-08-12 12:43:06 +0000 UTCThe other hint you said could be disputed by simply stating she was also drunk that's why she wasn't scared tbf.

2024-08-12 12:02:29 +0000 UTCIf u remember, Chimney saved Luffy when he was drowning in the whirpools. Its pretty hard to believe that a kid can save a teenager that is twice her side in that disturbing water area. But it makes sense if she's part fishmen. Swimming is in their blood.
Black Snow
2024-08-12 12:00:43 +0000 UTCSo one thing that was foreshadowing was when Chimney saved Luffy from drowning. If you note the currents were really strong but I think they said she was a strong swimmer. The other hint was that Kokoro was never worried about her life on the sea train. It's cause she could swim in the ocean.

2024-08-12 11:50:48 +0000 UTCAh the big reveal of the beautiful mermaid Here's an Sbs related question on Chimney and her Gramma Sbs Vol. 47 Q: " If Kokoro-san is a mermaid, why is her granddaughter Chimney a normal human? Don't mermaids pass on genetic information? " -from Petit Panda Oda: "Kokoro-san came here from Fish-Man Island out of her respect for Tom-san, when she was a young mermaid. She married a young human man from Water 7, their half-merman son married another human, and THEIR daughter was Chimney. Chimney is therefore 1/4 mermaid, so she's a very good swimmer. It was only her mermaid blood that helped such a little kid save Luffy in Chapter 403, Volume 42, as he drowned. (In the whirlpool separating the Tower of Law and the Bridge of Hesitation) Also one hint of her being a mermaid: Yokozuna discussing with Kokoro while everyone's confused as to how she understood why he was trying attack the Rocketman. And some hints at her scaled legs in the manga

2024-08-12 11:40:42 +0000 UTCyeah i only tuned in to this ep for the mermaid reaction and you guys only discussing about it is peak for me haha another W discussion.
Edword
2024-08-12 11:14:31 +0000 UTCFun fact: Kokoro is seen with scaleless ankles exposed early on in the manga. How ever, the anime showed her with flesh colored ankles, indicating her ankles were normal skin like the leg of a human and not her mermaid tail. A slight oversight from the anime that wasn't caught. Oda is a master as subtle forshadowing.
