Immortal Art

Sometimes there is nothing to say

Mo za

This is sooo evil from Oda man, every singly time, why do I cry to the exact same thing man. Shout out to the animators, the art style this episode is one of my favorites.

EOussama

Usopp being a habitual liar who had a hard time accepting the reality of the matter for both of his losses is so ironic and heartbreaking imo.

boredbeck

Actually nice seeing carson shedding a tear or two for merry. really shows how much the writing can effect people even though its just a ship

R

Same for me bro, the only times I ever cried watching anything were probably THAT scene in Hunter X Hunter and that one Thai commercial which I don't remember at all anymore lol (I think it's like "My daddy is a liar" or something)...seen many many movies, and TV shows and I get sad but I don't cry...One Piece made me cry AT LEAST 5 times now watching a scene, goddamit 😂

boredbeck

Absolute Cinema indeed... Watched this scene too many times and have cried too many times man LMAO

Martin Hagen

This shit still chokes me up no matter how many times I watch it lol

Over the 28 years I've been alive, there's only been one type of media that made me cry which was Hachi: A dog tale when I was 13. Ever since I watch this episode 11 years ago, not else has made me tear up. I story is great when a non living thing makes people cry

Not so fun fact The song that plays during the funerals is called '' Dear Friend '' It's the ending you guys reacted to last time and i always interpreted it as the Merry sailing alone to Enies Lobby while remembering all the moments she spent with the crew Usopp taking care of her all this time and refusing to accept she'll die hits harder when you remember his mom was also in her dying bed due to an illness and it's maybe a heartbreaking parallel to the dying Merry as he kept doing everything in his power to give her hope.

Destroys me everytime :’(

As sad as this was, you have to know that "reality" is they would never be able to traverse the entire grandline with a little boat like that. I mean, you have seen ships in this series that are 300 meters in size or even larger and much better built. It is amazing that she made it this far. Perhaps it is merry's WILL that allowed it to happen. So as a pirate show, were only the threat and danger intensifies the further and deeper into this world you get, its something that I think a lot of us knew was an enividable outcome eventually. The end of an era! Now its time for the straw hats to mourn their loss and move on for the dangers that await them, with an even greater vessel and a new spirit of hope to lead them.

And this is why i think the Merry is the hidden protagonist of the G8 arc Idk who was in charge back then but they understood their task to perfection

Sanji Joestar

Finally, you reached what is without a doubt one of my "top 5 favorite moments" in the entire series. Merry was more than just a ship; she was every bit a character of the straw hat crew. An identity that represents all the memories and early adventures shared together. Alas, its time to turn the page, but her legacy will live on.  R.I.P GOING MERRY😥

Artemis

"Voice" has always been a special theme in this series

Guy Buddy

despite what everyone kept saying, the merry did make it to the next island

fia

Woke up to watch the reaction And i was having a dream of the crew successfully getting back to Water7 with the Merry🤧

Sanji Joestar

Merry created the “best girl, best boat” category ❤️

This arc shows shines for many of the Strawhats and Usopp and Robin in particular As two people who ''left'' the crew it's really interesting that Usopp was the one telling Robin to have faith in Luffy. His persona of Sogeking being a lie he can put to cover himself and help is a top quality Usopp thing to do even with all his doubts and fears he becomes a hero for that brief moment. I also really like that moment of Sanji encouraging Usopp and telling him There are things i can't do, but you can. Very reminiscent of Luffy's line towards arlong ''I can't cook, I can't navigate, i can't use swords, I can't lie but I can beat you '' Shows so much of the crew's trust in each other to accomplish the impossible and Usopp did! Another Straw Hat too did the impossible The Going Merry The Water7 events keep repeating again again and again that she can't sail to the NEXT island. It's impossible You will sink And she does exactly that, by reaching Enies Lobby. Her voice was first perceived by Usopp too. And he knew and they trusted her to take them to safety. And like in a last breath moment, she sees the Galley La crew and knows ''Phew, i managed to save them, this is it for me.'' And there the funerals where Luffy and the crew apologize for not trusting the Merry and a magnificent departure. Oda used different weather elements during this saga to accompany the crew's state. A windy day signaling the start of the storm Raging tsunami, giants waves on a sea train showing the hardships the crew literally has to break through The smokes of the buster call (yet we can still see the sky and the sea, everything's not lost) But here he used snow Rain would have been too sad, as the Merry feels fulfilled Snow feels reconforting with a bittersweet departure. I love this Saga so much.❤

We know Luffy always needs to hear what his crew members WANTS before deciding what to do FOR them But in this case, back when Luffy and Usopp had the argument, Luffy heard it thru Usopp who expressed the voice of the Merry but Luffy didn't listen or didn't want to because of his burden as a captain and the safety of the crew being challenged. When the Merry came rescuing them Luffy finally heard her voice But It was too late He was too late to see the truth about the Merry, only Usopp knew and then he wasn't sure, but was still prepared to fight for the Merry. They left a crewmember almost die and that same nakama came back to save them. Here Luffy apologizes to the Merry for all the things he didn't have the opportunity to tell her ''WE'RE THE ONE WHO HAVE TO APOLOGIZE, MERRY!!! I'M NOT GOOD AT NAVIGATING, AND I CRASHED YOU INTO AN ICEBERG !!! I EVEN RIPPED THE SAIL SOMETIMES !!! ZORO AND SANJI ARE IDIOTS, SO THEY BROKE MANY THINGS TOO!!! USOPP TRIED TO FIX YOU EVERY TIME, BUT HE'S NOT GOOD AT IT, EITHER !! WE'RE SO SORRY!!" This describes the scene before Usopp's fight very well to me. Usopp was the only one who tried to fix the situation there, expressing himself FOR THE MERRY. The apology was to the Merry and I think he did well to let her know Also saying ''WE'RE SO SORRY'' engulfs the other Strawhats' reaction to Usopp's anger and decision to leave, they couldn't do anything for the Merry and left. They had to choose to believe in the Merry but didn't maybe because it was too hard and we'rent too sure if what they felt was even real.

RIP Merry Cried for a boat too many times to count now

On a more positive note, I like this climax A LOT. Don't get it confused, I still rate Enies Lobby an A, it's just that I give Water 7 an S. Don't worry, I still think very highly of this saga. I think it's important to judge a story based on what the artist / creators / writers behind these stories want to tell. Before evaluating a story, you have to see what's it's going for. I won't judge Skypeia for being a typical Shonen arc, because it's not trying to be. I'm going to judge it on how well it presents this beautiful tale of sentiment, longing, freedom, dreams, desire, memories, colonisation, and will, rather than try to judge it on what it's not - a typical Shonen arc. I think that's stupid. That's why i forgive the Shoneny Satori fight. There's actually an interesting link I made between Skypeia and Enies Lobby (which shows I appreciate both arcs). I would say that Skypeia is an affirmation of who Luffy is. An island of dreams for pirates. Whereas Enies Lobby is an island where dreams are crushed, specifically Robin's dream. It is an abject denial of dreams; the ultimate symbol of the World Government's control. Let's try to analyse these stories with a bit more critical thinking rather than blindly praising / criticising them👍🏽

We've reached the best episode of this arc, and so I'd like to apologise to people thinking i was instigating on Episode 300's comment section. Some people aren't going to like what I have to say about certain things, because I'm not praising everything that comes out of Oda's pen. In general I'd like to see more acceptance of people's criticisms so certain people aren't afraid to openly express their thoughts and get shut down by a large majority. I'm actually thankful to find guys like Carson who breaks down things and make me want to imagine an alternate version of this arc where the inconsistencies and criticisms are addressed... thats why i love watching and reading people who dissect and criticize One Piece because i believe Enies Lobby could have been better than it was.

Merry dying feels like whenever I have to put one of my dogs down. I know it’s for the best, but it doesn’t make me feel less sad

Croutonking65

"When do you think people die? When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom!? No! It’s when… they are forgotten." (- Dr Hiriluk). The Merry will be in everyone's memories for a long time to come🫡
