One Piece Episode 324 UNCUT REACTION!

@Boldcast, The first part is correct. They sail from north east, westward into the Red line. (The entire journey of the east blue arc is sailing west) however, If they continued to the extreme west from climbing up Reverse Mountain and then went in that direction, they would run right into the mountain walls in which case there is no water channel flowing up on that side of the grandline. If they manage to jump over the entire mountain, they would be on the other side of the redline mountain, basically the end of their grandline journey on the apposite side of where Laboon is. How ever this is impossible to accomplish because reverse mountain has 4 rivers from the 4 sea's (east blue, South blue, North blue, West blue) that only flow up the mountain from the 4 cardinal directions of the map and they all converge at the summit and then flow down the one channel eastward which dumps into the grandline. In east blue, basically if they had the capabilities of sailing across the calm belts, they can sail directly into the grandline due south and take a massive shortcut. The perspective is just weird like that based on how the anime has been showing it.

2024-09-08 13:31:52 +0000 UTCIts extra confusing too because almost all of the scenes at the base of reverse mountain, where Laboon and Crocus are, we see the Strawhats positioned on the left of the screen and the red line is on the right. Furthering the idea that they are leaving in a left or westward direction.

2024-09-08 03:29:08 +0000 UTCAnd to make things worse, there's a future scene where they display the planet model upside-down and them sailing from right to left, which is just the perspective and misleading. There will be other times where it's shown better.

2024-09-08 02:33:55 +0000 UTCYikes, yes. The reverse Mountain has five canals, four for going up it, and one for entering the grand line. Each of those canals flow one way and the entrance goes east. The tip has sharp turns which is why it isn't intuitive. Picture: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/onepiece/images/c/ce/About_Reverse_Mountain.png/revision/latest?cb=20171012053324

2024-09-08 02:22:23 +0000 UTCWait what? Everytime we’ve seen the straw hats sailing on a map, in the OP’s etc, they have been going from right to left. That’s the way that manga is read, the east blue is northeast of the redline (top right orientation from the rest of the 4 main seas) So I figured we went from the northeast of the “face” of the globe, to the west to reverse mountain, and they spat us out on the west side of the redline in the grand line. Then we’ve been sailing westward in the grand line Is all that just wrong?

2024-09-07 21:07:25 +0000 UTCand then you had Yibis much later on. Yeah fansubs were amazing, its why i choose to preserve them. The unique colors, animation effects, font styles and far more accurate translations with footnotes. Sadly fansubs are become more obscure as time moves on and pretty much will only be a memory of those who remember watching them.

2024-09-07 20:15:10 +0000 UTCThat is exactly why I provided it :D Trying to comprehend the cardinal directions in OP is a bit mindfucker-y from our perspective lol quick excursion: If you have ever flown somewhere, you might have noticed how the plane's direct route (a straight line on our 3D globe) forms an arch on the 2D screen. This occurs because the shortest distance between two points on a sphere appears curved (distorted towards the respective pole on each hemisphere) on a flat map – it's non-Euclidean geometry. Hence why the Grand Line & Red Line are a squiggly line on this map (and it is also the reason why the North & South Blue appear bigger here).

2024-09-07 20:09:15 +0000 UTC@Klairboyage I cant tell if that map projection is more or less confusing for me XD

2024-09-07 20:07:18 +0000 UTCYeah! That's the Kaizoku fansubs. Gear 2 had cool steam punk font and I remember a bunch of puns being explained early on like something about clouds and spiders? I cant remember XD
ChocoBoshi
2024-09-07 20:05:56 +0000 UTCThat might be it!!! I still remember their translations also include context for the puns so you understood almost everything...plus they used different cool fonts for each character's named attacks lol 😃🔥🔥🔥
boredbeck
2024-09-07 20:04:01 +0000 UTCCrunchyroll is better than Netflix from what I've seen but I agree they're still rough sometimes. You may be remembering the Kaizoku fansubs. That's what I watched up until like 2014. They were a lot more poetic at times which I think One Piece benefits from.
ChocoBoshi
2024-09-07 20:00:34 +0000 UTCYeah they travel east-wards, though technically not in a straight line, considering the Grand Line & Redline appear diagonal on the globe with North facing up. That can make the comprehension of the cardinal directions on those two lines on a global scale a bit tricky, so here's the Mercator (= flat map) projection of the One Piece world: https://imgur.com/a/z4VBZUq it may help make things more clear
klairvoyage
2024-09-07 19:59:34 +0000 UTCYeah, the translation kinda fcked up a lot things in One Piece...i dont remember which translation it is, but the first time i binged OP online, the translations were more accurate...they even got the "DON!" part of Tom (they also put the context of why they translated it that way and the wordplay of why it "DON" was used...they did it a lot of times so you also understood the puns)...that fansub was way more accurate than this supposed "official" translation from Crunchyroll (?)

2024-09-07 19:57:33 +0000 UTCI was just rewatching the episode and they're correctly translated at the start, they just mess it up when Smoker says "I'm only a captain". I don't actually hear the word for captain or commodore at all so he probably just meant that because of his rank his freedom is limited rather than specifically stating his ranking. Its interesting that the translation would get it right just a few lines before but then mess it up because they don't use the actual word for his rank XD
ChocoBoshi
2024-09-07 19:38:42 +0000 UTCI think we need to clear a potential misconception, just in case. The Grand Line progression goes from West to East, NOT from East to West. This is confirmed many times. However, the maps shown in the future can confuse you and here's why. Any time a region or island is shown mapped, there is no guarantee nor obligation for North to be at the top of the map. That's what a compass rose is for in real life as well. So you will see some maps more than once that arbitrarily have South or East be the top of the screen, it's all perspective. But there's no mistake that Reverse Mountain is West of this point and they are sailing East. And I'd like to add that the reason knowing directions from the sun and such isn't sufficient is because islands aren't 100% charted. So going in any particular direction doesn't find land, 'knowing exactly where land is' finds land. Just going East might starve you before you get lucky and hit land (and then there's obstacles), but going North or South can help you escape if you're desperate enough to cross a Calm Belt.

2024-09-07 12:44:31 +0000 UTCI really love how something like the impact dial being used to propulse a ship skywards in Long Ring Long Land, was used throughout the arc with the Merry escaping thanks to Franky's Coup de Vent. And now it's directly implemented to the Thousand Sunny's Coup de Burst. A ship sailing a thousand seas as a cheerful sun The name is so perfect. When we got a new ship, it felt like replacing a lost sibling and it can feel like that sometimes But i really love how Franky acknowledges that the Sunny inherited the will of the Merry. In a series about inherited wills it's so perfectly fitting, you just fall in love with the successor of Merry. ❤️I love how it was properly done. And now we sail to new adventures

2024-09-07 12:38:50 +0000 UTCI stupidly love these after arc episodes where we go checkup on past friends and allies man, also appreciate the little info drops throughout, some more subtle than others. Let's goo Dragon appeared and said more than "...".

2024-09-07 11:36:25 +0000 UTCI knew it, I remember reading it because Smoker is my favorite marine...and if he hadn't accepted the promotion, he would've been either fired or court-martialed already.

2024-09-07 09:55:05 +0000 UTChttps://cdn.onepiecechapters.com/file/opctcb/onepiece/onepiecechapters_439_15.jpg yeah they are Commodore & Ensign now
klairvoyage
2024-09-07 09:49:03 +0000 UTCYou are right Carson, Smoker was forced to take the promotion (& became Commodore). CR just mistranslated it here, though tbf there is nearly 20 ranks, so it can get confusing with all the similar-sounding names for them... so here's a lil overview: 𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 (commander-in-chief / no.1 in the Marines) – Sengoku 1. 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 ––– Aokiji/Kuzan & Akainu/Sakazuki 2. 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞-𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 ––– Garp, Tsuru, Momonga & Jaguar D. Saul 3. Rear Admiral 4. Commodore ––– Smoker (former rank: #5) 5. 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 ––– Morgan, Nezumi, Hina & T-Bone 6. Commander 7. Lieutenant Commander 8. Lieutenant 9. Lieutenant Junior Grade 10. 𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 ––– Tashigi (former rank: #12) & Daddy Masterson -------the above are considered "officers"------- 11. Warrant Officer 12. 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫 ––– Koby (former rank: #18) 13. Chief Petty Officer ––– Helmeppo (former rank: #18) ... 17. Seaman Recruit ––– Fullbody (former rank: #8) & Jango 18. 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐲 (lowest rank)

2024-09-07 09:47:32 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure Smoker got promoted because Tashigi got promoted...I remember reading this specifically in the manga when I was reading week to week. Of course, if I'm actually wrong, someone please correct me.
boredbeck
2024-09-07 07:53:09 +0000 UTCWe're getting conflicting info in the comments now, I thought this was true as well but I cant find confirmation on the wiki of whether he accepted the promotion or not
ChocoBoshi
2024-09-07 07:49:19 +0000 UTCJust a clarification on Smoker's status since its revealed already in this episode. I'm not sure if it's mistranslation, but Smoker is a Commodore in this episode (he did get promoted because of Alabasta)...while Tashigi was promoted from Sargeant to Ensign I think.
boredbeck
2024-09-07 07:03:20 +0000 UTCYou’re remembering right. From Alabasta: “Smoker angrily refused both the medals and promotions his bosses offered him and Tashigi, especially after the breakdown the latter had just went through. Hina warned Smoker to accept the awards, telling him that it was obvious that the World Government planned to cover up the entire incident, and that if he disobeyed the top brass, he could risk getting court-martialed, but Smoker stated that he preferred punishment over accepting something he did not earn.”

2024-09-07 06:09:28 +0000 UTCDuring the scene where Garp is revealed as Luffy's grandpa in the Live Action I think Garp throws a single cannon ball at Luffy's ship and Luffy reflects it which is why they can't continue to chase him. I think its sort of an homage to their escape in this scene. I remember being sort of disappointed that Garp didn't throw a huge cannonball like he does here XD
