Thriller Bark is one of my favourite arcs! The scoobydoo backgrounds and general atmosphere etc., hit some nostalgic bone in me somewhere.

2024-09-21 04:01:15 +0000 UTC4kids had been long done with one piece by the time thriller bark was made. FUNimation was halfway thru Skypiea at this time with their dub, then they went back to do the earlier episodes. For me, it was 2010 & i was watching the current episodes with foreknowledge of what 4kids covered thinking that was okay to go with - until i completed Enies Lobby during spring break of that year & a bit earlier was halfway through the following saga that is after TB, and my life had been completely changed from then on. once i was a bit of the ways through Water 7 beforehand - i was simultaneously getting through all the previous arcs as the current sagas pretty much demanded me of that.

2024-09-20 22:26:34 +0000 UTC@alisson I would love to hear others stories about how they got into OP but I feel like when we get older, we look back at certain arcs and kick our selfs for not liking it. I think its because as kids it didn't take much to entertain us especially for a new medium like anime. Now we are far more critical when it comes to things and we have a greater knowledge-base to pull from, watching alot of different types of series and especially being more accustomed to the tropes of shonen. Its to bad because skipping arcs and i guess "Filler" carries such a negative conation now which has kind of been something that has been passed onto the alpha generation. I remember the days when you just put something on and just enjoy it for what it was, not worry about rather or not your following source material and that sort of thing.

2024-09-20 04:07:58 +0000 UTCI have to admit I skipped this arc. When I first watched one piece I watched everythinggg because I didn't know what was filler and what was canon. I didn't skip filler, Skypia, or LRLL but for some reason I just couldn't continue this arc and I've gone back to rewatch one piece and reread it. BUT im happy that I'll finally have a reason to watch it in its entirety now.

2024-09-20 03:28:56 +0000 UTCSkip it? I heard about Skypia because it feels the most disjointed from the series, but I never heard that about Thriller bark. This arc is a special one for me because it is my first real foray into the Japanese anime series upon being recommended by a friend who was trying to get me into OP for a long time and it is what made me become a PERM fan for life. Before 4kids completely destroyed my perception of one piece in every way shape or form. I grew up with naruto/bleach but 4kids and the way OP was treated here in the states is why I never followed it from my mid to late teenage years. I literally would have been an OG fan if it wasn’t for them but im a superfan now and this arc is what started that.

2024-09-20 00:46:35 +0000 UTCThis arc was released in between two great arc, and that made it so dislikeblle for some people. Also some people skipped it and they actually don't know what they are talking about

2024-09-20 00:21:32 +0000 UTCUsopp being a borderline conspiracy theorist while also being tied with Nami for the most skeptical on the crew is hilarious here

2024-09-19 23:43:45 +0000 UTCI actually like that they are reading comments and interacting more. In the past their was some level of toxicity and or spoiler bombing and I think it kept boldcast from commenting to much. So I am glad they are back engaging with the community. This is their safe ground because we all respect them, unlike youtube.
Artemis
2024-09-19 20:24:22 +0000 UTCNo offense taken then. Yeah I realise sometimes they just think out loud. I think they miss a lot of comments and/or select which ones they want to read (e.g they didn’t seem to see or chose not to look at the plans for the going merry we posted for them) & they probably take opinions with a grain of salt too. People will have varying views of enjoyability (and speaking of humor sometimes gags stay funny after many viewings but other people might feel they are less effective/funny over time, which is a very personal take). But I do understand your concerns about influencing their experience by saying too much.

2024-09-19 20:13:09 +0000 UTCNo you didn't say anything about "Content" which is good. Boldcasts asks alot of questions but this is just really there thought process at the time. They of course can't understand how this arc compares to previous arcs or even future story lines because they just started it. We are not supposed answer this. For my own impressions, Comedy is one of the reasons i love this arc alot but this is something we can talk about because they have already seen that it has a fair level of comedic moments and pop-cult homages. Anyways no anomisity here. I don't want to ruin the vibe. But their will be plenty of time to enjoy over all arc impressions in due time. We just need to keep things directed to the current story and what they are enjoying now. Thats all.
Artemis
2024-09-19 20:01:05 +0000 UTCAlso most of my comment about slowness is specifically about rewatching this arc and not about first viewing so they shouldn’t have any concerns about it anyway. They are enjoying the ride and just were questioning the popularity of the arc in the bigger picture. I don’t think my comment says anything in particular about what to expect in content just that potentially there is stuff later that people are hyped about more than this one arc. Nothing I said implied that it’s not worth watching or not enjoyable or anything much about the content in general. I think that’s staying pretty vague and not really spoiling anything considering there are more than 1k episodes so politely, please don’t give lectures about how to communicate.
Jambron
2024-09-19 19:44:12 +0000 UTCDude they literally questioned why people (which I understood to be us as a community) haven’t mentioned this arc in particular as one of the memorable ones. All my original comment does is address that particular aspect which can be correct or incorrect but is an attempt to bring some answers. Hold your horses!
Jambron
2024-09-19 19:27:14 +0000 UTCPeople need to tone back just a tad on their views of this arc. Its ok if you say you love/hate the arc, but don't go any deeper then that. Boldcast has just started it, let them have a fresh experience with no pre-concieved expectations.
Artemis
2024-09-19 19:22:56 +0000 UTCWell of course this is a question of taste. I don’t mind the arc that much: if I was just going to give my opinion about it (though sometimes I skip through some of the sections where things take a little long to my taste). I also find it easier to reread than rewatch. However, I wasn’t stating my opinion for the sake of it; I was using it as a basis for speculating about something they were wondering about. I am curious then why you think the arc isn’t mentioned or put forward in any particular way compared to other one piece arcs, if not for those reasons I mentioned, as that is what I was my other comment was about.
Jambron
2024-09-19 16:47:01 +0000 UTCThriller Bark doesn’t get enough praise! Glad you’re enjoying it. In my opinion it’s the funniest One Piece Arc. (excluding the bath harassment scene ofc because that was just gross)

2024-09-19 14:21:19 +0000 UTCI love that the spooky arc is also the funniest arc.

2024-09-19 14:17:03 +0000 UTCI think i need to play the song from zombie island well watching these episodes. ♫♫♫You hear the screeching of an owl, You hear the wind begin to howl, You know there's zombies on the prowl, And it's terror time again. They've got you running though the night, It's terror time again. And you just might die of fright, It's a terrifying time.♫♫♫
Artemis
2024-09-19 11:36:46 +0000 UTCAgree and disagree with you, well some arcs drag things out with reptitious nonsence, (ennies lobby in paticular) I think this arc's slow building moments are an exception because of its unique setting and just outragious comedic moments, well being entangled with mystery and intrigue plus you get the added suspence from being in a cult horror show. There are other reasons i love this arc so much but won't say what they are yet until boldcast gets there. I guess it ultimatly depends on preference as well.
Artemis
2024-09-19 11:33:13 +0000 UTCill just say it but with this arc, this is where one piece's comedy hits its peak.
Artemis
2024-09-19 10:44:34 +0000 UTCYeah these 3 are the perfect match-up for this place. Its also cool to see how the other group handles things in perspective.

2024-09-19 10:42:20 +0000 UTCNever let Luffy wander alone man, mf sees an elderly tree person and a stitched up unicorn having a drink and the first thought that comes across his mind is to invite them up to his crew.

2024-09-19 10:11:32 +0000 UTCLove the references to Scooby Doo, which was one of my fav cartoons growing up and i can totally see some relation between this and Zombie Island :)
Black Snow
2024-09-19 09:46:31 +0000 UTCExactly. I missed this comment before I wrote mine, but it is kind of what I wanted to get to. Well, stuff does happen, but it can feel dragged out, which means a lot of the arc can feel like it maybe didn’t add a lot of relevant content. The gags are there, though!
Jambron
2024-09-19 09:24:43 +0000 UTCYeah Thriller Bark is a good arc. I think it's one of those arcs which suffers from being sort of sandwiched between excellent (peak?) stuff that kind of overshadows (pun intended) this one. As a result on rewatch it can feel a little dragged out while you want to "get to the good stuff". Nevertheless, it has some really funny scenes and great moments and definitely owns that spooky tone that it goes for. Stuff involving the zombies has me in stitches (oh no, look at me go).

2024-09-19 09:21:47 +0000 UTCIn regard of "there is no damsel" Brook is kinda the dasmel with his shadow being stolen 🤔

2024-09-19 07:28:28 +0000 UTCI love how we have two waves of the straw hats arriving on the island. The scared trio and the power group of 5 lol Seeing the contrast to how they react to the spooky stuff is hilarious and putting Usopp Nami and Chopper together was definitely the best move. 😂

2024-09-19 06:32:42 +0000 UTCUsopp brought up an interesting point regarding Devil fruits. Two people can't possess the same power. Oda elaborated more on that question in the Sbs section in Vol 48. Y'all are at Vol46 right now. Here's the question and his answer. Q: " Helloooooo! I've got a serious question despite the Question Corner's reputation for lowbrow jokes! In volume 46, Usopp said that there are no two powers that are the same in this world. But this seems to be a bit different from what was being said in a question corner in volume 45. Since the Gum-Gum Fruit is in the encyclopedia, that means the one Luffy ate couldn't be the first one of its kind! Beautiful and intelligent Eiichiro Oda, please clarify this for me! " -Takafi Oda: '' You're pretty sharp. But it's okay. I haven't said anything contradictory. Here's a hint for you: l'Il put what Usopp said in a slightly different way. "In this world, no two powers exist at the same time". Is that easier to understand? There is a certain scholar who will appear in the upcoming story who will explain what the Devil Fruits are. Eventually... ''

2024-09-19 06:25:00 +0000 UTCThriller Bark is one of my favorite arcs. Its by no means considered one of the best (which is probably why you haven't heard as much about it) but it has some very high peaks and brings the vibes. Its consistently fun, highlights the One Piece comedy we all love, and delivers a great experience

2024-09-19 06:00:35 +0000 UTCI think the reason why people don't talk much about this ark is because while it is fun, when you compare it to the previous huge ark and the following arks, nothing happens in this ark.
