I think that’s the intention for this type of story and this character that has been conveyed through many various forms of literature, influenced by Mary Shelley' frankenstein novel. A mad scientist playing with God perverting his research and scientific experiments to the point of becoming a man that has lost all reason and empathy towards any living thing. The byproduct of this character archetype is even in stuff like naruto with Orochimaru or hojo from the Final Fantasy VII video game. Its a classic villian carcature that I think is fun to play around with, depending upon where oda wants to go with it. Also the ultimate dream of moria trying to achieve pirate king with his assistent to create an army of the dead, could have some interesting results.

Just trying to make a connection because the mad scientist re-animating a female corpse for love is a horror trope that could date back from a 1932 horror film called White Zombie where that trope is the central plot.
