Who are this people saying for everything "this wasnt planed"!? What about you guys shut up and let them enjoy the story and btw there was always a skelet on ment to join the straw hats

The Rambar pirates were from the West Blue (Brook's own words, he was a convoy leader for a West Blue kingdom). So there was no Loguetown in their traversal to the Grad Line. Can you imagine how OP the Rambar pirates would have been, had Laboon been as massive as he is now?

I know I heard them I was thinking of something else

What if oda decided to add Brooks afro after he made afro luffy.

Two things from me: 1. This backstory showing Brook's lonely moments on the wrecked ship is extremely sad but it didn't hit me as much until I realized... He was stuck there. On the ship that was a constant reminder of all the good days, laughter etc. Surrounded by bones of his former crewmates and friends. For frigging 50 YEARS?! Stuck in the Florian Triangle because the ship's rudder was broken and he couldn't swim, so he was trapped there basically (maybe he would leave the ship if he had such a choice to keep his sanity and leave the pain behind). He was also stuck with the regret that he was the only one who survived. Maybe even guilt. Because of his devil fruit which gave him this 'advantage' over all the others who died and won't ever be back to life and cannot see another day yet see Laboon, their families etc. The amount of pain, sadness and loneliness he had to bear and live through seems insane to me... When I realized all that all the moment hit me much harder and even earlier moments of his interactions with StrawHats at the beginning of the arc hit differently. Because he was also stuck in the form of a skeleton and must have realized - even if he managed to leave those waters he wouldn't be able to live amongst normal people. They would be afraid of him. He probably met some pirate ships and other ships while drifting in Florian Triangle and got to see other people's reaction to a talking skeleton. That's why he probably used his bright personality to his advantage and started to make jokes and behave silly to make others put their guards down and give himself a chance to talk to them. Remember how happy he was when Luffy and others met him and weren't afraid of him and even talked to him and ate together? My heart... 2. In the flashback of 50 years ago he was 38 yo... That means his mental age at that moment in time is 88 yo. Brook is actually a grandpa of the crew! I said I'll leave here two things but I just thought of something else: 3. Brook's crew was already sailing the Grand Line when Gol D. Roger was still a rookie! He was a member of an older pirate crew which I believe to be a pivotal piece of information. 4. Remember when Brook's soul came back from the other side/underworld? He said he got lost in the Florian Triangle and it took him a year to find his body which was already decomposed and that's how he became a skeleton... Now. Imagine if that didn't happen and he came back to life immediately... He would be stuck on this frigging boat literally having to see / dispose of decomposing bodies of his dead crewmates. That would be a pure horror.

Yeah the fact that by the time of Laboon, a skeleton was already long ago planned as a Strawhat, makes me lean towards that the connection was intended from the start & perhaps Laboon even being the result of conceptualizing Brook, as opposed to the other way around But for all we know it's 50/50

classic carson talking over the explanation haha

Brook and the Rumbar Pirates sailed from the West Blue. They literally mentioned it at the exact moment you asked and talked over about it. It’s funny, I was πŸ€¦πŸ™ˆπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈso bad.

Early pre One Piece concept art shows Oda's idea for the main characters and he already had Luffy, Zoro, Usopp(with shorter nose and hair), Sanji and Nami figured out. There's others characters too including a humanoid reindeer seemingly smoking and a skeleton(without his afro however). So i think it's safe to assume there was a level of planning for Laboon when you think about someone that could survive somewhere being stuck for 50years, becoming a skeleton was both a blessing and curse for Brook . In the manga for Reverse Mountain, we only saw clearly the silhouette of the captain(with his cowboy hat) within the crowd of the Rumbar pirates and the ship they were sailing on. Knowing we'd have to come back, i think eventually we'd meet a member of that crew. Whether it was the skeleton in the concept art or not is a mystery.

Sanji Joestar

So this is not a spoiler, but for context of where Brook and his crew was sailing before the entered the Reverse Mountain down to Grand Line: they came from the West Blue.
