So, the four cardinal gods you mentioned were also imported into Japanese culture. They are known as Seiryu (Dragon), Suzaku (Bird), Byakko (Tiger) and Genbu (Tortoise). They also have colours associated to them (Azure, Vermilion, White, Black). Then there's also a central entity which is a Yellow Dragon (Oryu) but that one is sometimes replaced by the Kirin

They were a tribe of warrior women who lived on an island called Themiscyra and were frequent guest stars in various stories like the 12 Labors of Hercules. The Amazon River and rainforest are named after the amazons because Spanish soldier Francisco de Orellana, the first European to explore the region, fought against a real tribe of warrior women. Amazon Lilly takes cues from Greek Mythology and South American tribal culture.

2024-12-08 13:13:26 +0000 UTCYeah Robin's darker tone and colors were always a contentious topic for the anime. In the manga she was just as ''white" as the other Strawhats in Oda's color spreads. Even as a kid. Also she has canonical brown eyes. But the anime gave her blue eyes.(Much better imo) Same thing with Mihawk His eyes aren't yellow in the manga, but red. Not sure why the anime made that choice, maybe the hawk aesthetic. But for both characters the change is still sticking while in the manga the colors didn't change.

Can't wait to see more from your perspective on her It's true that she does share similarities with Robin, but imo the way Oda draws her in the manga receives extra care and attention. He mentioned once that Hancock is one of the hardest characters for him to draw because of how much details he has to put into her to present her in the best light and you can see it in the way she's drawn. I especially love the way he draws her hair and eyes in the manga. The main artstyle for this arc is more ''loose" so those details get lost

2024-12-08 12:57:50 +0000 UTCI feel like the kitten thing was more to show that she will be forgiven or rather, people will not even dare judge her because simply, she's that beautiful. It was not just a cat, it was a kitten, and it was not just a kitten, it was a cute kitten. Not that not all kittens aren't cute by default but emphasis on cute here. Of course beauty is subjective and while Oda can't objectively create an attractive character that everyone in the world agrees on, he showed it in the lens of how in-world people view her actions and put her above any kind of judgment. I love the broke theory Carson, really a lot of points you made never crossed my mind all the years I watched and read this arc, not even that, I don't believe I've ever read anything close to that in all my years of theory diving.
