One Piece Episode 417 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

Lol yeah I just realized that Karakuri / the Future Island that we see in 418 is its 2nd appearance in the manga... I do think the additional context for that island would bring up some interesting thoughts🧑🏾‍🍳

klairvoyage

"He's not wholesome" "It's the truth, he is wholesome" Ooooookay

SomeoneElse

It’s the truth. He’s wholesome but he also just doesn’t understand sex which is part of the humor imo.

Infinite tsukuyomi (he him)

Down vote

ChocoBoshi

Yeah that and the scene where they were doing accounting for all their Marine loot make it pretty clear imo

klairvoyage

Luffy is not wholesome just too clueless. Adds to the humor.

Infinite tsukuyomi (he him)

all the sillyness in this arc aside, it’s really wholesome how clearly luffy misses his crew. Can’t build a boat, can’t navigate, doesn’t have a chef etc. and is always bringing them up

Martin Hagen

I love the reactions/discussions as always guys ☺️ so much love 💖💖💖

ViviMay

I'm 30 and i feel called out xD

Nakos

A cloak covers your back. Handy if you don't want somebody to see it.

Jambron

Animal abuse shown in Tom and Jerry & Looney Tunes is funny.

Monkey D. Lucci

Hey... I'm not 30... yet. Still in my 29s 😂

JManuelRM

@Isaac Sato Gotcha, thanks for the correction! I did know about using katakana for things like emphasis, I've heard that its like typing in all caps sometimes as well, but I was unclear on its use in names so thank you for that. I also didn't look up what 'Jinbei' meant in Japanese so the loan word thing was sort of just an aside (A somewhat incorrect aside, but I digress). I was really just trying to get at the fact that despite it being written "ジンベエ" the 'n' may actually be pronounced as an 'm' sound.

ChocoBoshi

They are so ridculously cute and innocent looking that it somehow makes me laugh even harder. If this happened to Chouchou it would be different, but these cute animals getting kicked is funny to me.

Adam Vialpando

Ignorance is bliss.

Artemis

Im watching you since episode 8. I always love you reactions but I never had so much fun with you than this arc

ignorantWeed

They will love it

ignorantWeed

shut the fuck up dumbass

Hening Honing

No they are not mid

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

i would love a discussion for sabaody, but it's still considered part of this saga, so i doubt they will make a review just for it

fia

I'm curious when review on Sabaody will come out? Case it's separated arc overall.

Jack Shadow

This next couple of episodes are kinda mid. Just finding out the info is the important part.

Sonicluis

You know what would be cool? Reading the cover stories. Just saying.

Monkey D. Lucci

"cock-sama" man, always catches me off guard. I love how fast paced everything gets as soon as we cut off to Sengoku's office, the Marine got so much on their hand right now. Also, it seems like a constant in the One Piece world, much like the dreams of man, inherited will, and the flow of time. If Hancock is in the vicinity, a cute pet or two shall spawn at her foot-reach.

EOussama

Funny how his brother is named Ace 8-)

BTImelesS

And it's been quite a trend in One piece with the animal abuse for gags so i guess it's pick and choose at the end of the day for some people maybe not and they just don't like it which is fair

Sanji Joestar

Luffy my asexual king

Hansen

I just love how much of a weird goober Hancock is. It's very endearing.

Foxfire

You're partially right here, but IMO 'Jinbei' in katakana isn't necessarily to imply that it's non-Japanese -- it's because it's his name. Katakana isn't just for loan words. It's used for a very wide variety of things, from emphasis (like bold or italics) to vibes (like for dialogue for a robot or something) or (like in this context) to simply spell out a Japanese word phonetically while (partially) stripping it of any connotations or meaning that would stem from association with the kanji used. Katakana is also for names of any kind, even Japanese names - a lot of Japanese people might write their Japanese names out in katakana depending on the context. Also, for the record, I'm not a native Japanese speaker either. (I'm 'only' Japanese American; Japanese is my second language and I'm mediocre at it, so grain of salt.) But anyway, 'Jinbei' stems from the Japanese word for 'whale shark' (甚平鮫 - if you want to double check me on this, Google Image it, Google Translate is broken for this word for some reason), but IMO (and I could be wrong) it's written out phonetically (and not in kanji) so that it's clear that it's his name and not that they're literally just calling him 'whale shark'. To me, it almost seems to be a little bit like a human character being named 'Hugh Mann', which is clearly a name, but also clearly intended to sound a certain way, you know? But again, I'm not a native Japanese speaker. 'Jinbei' is also not written in hiragana so it's clear that the characters aren't randomly referring to 'loungewear' or something (which is normally 'Jinbei' written out in hiragana - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinbei). So they use katakana to make it clear it's a name, and so that when someone says "ジンベエ", you know they're talking to or about Jinbei the character. Similarly, 'Nami' is also written out in katakana, despite it being the Japanese word for 'wave' (波). If they used kanji or hiragana for her name, it would be jarring and kind of annoying to read. And weirdly, 'Hachi' (a nickname) is also written out in katakana (ハチ), but his full name 'Hatchan' is written out in hiragana 'はっちゃん', so it's seemingly not a case of all fish-man names simply being written in katakana. Or maybe Hachi is just an exception.

Isaac Sato

I've seen people say they hate Hancock for this but I don't hold it against her because it's so clearly a gag. Like Nami's eyes turning into berries and other characters acknowledging it.

Zoodinger

Luffy's got that gum gum rizz.

therobotchicken

It's so silly because they're just there for the bit😂😂😂😂

Sanji Joestar

The arc we're going into is one of my favorites! Can't wait to see you experience it. HEEHAAAW!

Eldritchfaeries

Am I the only one loving when Carson is imitating a Luffy scream😂?

Sanji Joestar

Jimbei (as it is sometimes Romanized) or Jinbei, which is strictly speaking a more accurate romanization is written as ジンベエ in Japanese, ジ "Ji" ン "n" ベ "be" エ "i". I've been learning Japanese as a hobby for a bit now and hearing verbal Japanese and turning it into written Japanese is one of the hardest parts for me still. In Japanese the only lone consonant symbol is ん or ン (the Hiragana and Katakana for "n") so occasionally you'll have a hard time knowing exactly how to say or write it. For example インペルダウン is I,n,pe,ru...Da,u,n or Impel Down. Both Jimbei's name and Impel Down are written in Katakana which I think implies that they are lone words and not words native to Japanese. So I think Jimbei is technically more correct in both pronunciation and spelling but I cant say for sure The way you can imagine saying it is like "Jim-bay" or Jim and then "Mei" but with a B instead of an M. The confusing part about the romanization is that, as far as I can tell they do actually pronounce the "n" as an "m" sound so even if "Jinbei" is more accurate, I think "Jimbei" is actually a better way to visualize how it is said.

ChocoBoshi

It's Jin-be with a J. The ortograph changes a lot depending on translations: Jinbē, Jinbei, Jimbei, Jimbe etc. Just note Jimbei/Jinbe.

Sanji Joestar

Hancock falling in love with Luffy is absolutely ridiculous levels of funny for the situation but it really works imo. I'm not even sure if it's love or just affection at this point. But she wouldn't really be able to distinguish the two as she always received the wrong kind of attention When she asked him will you look down on me for being a former slave and he said of course not. He really remind her of the man who saved her life. Luffy's earnest nature truly speaks volume wherever he goes.

Sanji Joestar

The gear 3 idea is hilarious lmao I wonder if the snake would survive a luffy going back full size

Sanji Joestar

This was such an exciting time when it was current. It's nice to see you be just as excited.

Monkey bing bong

So to recap the empresses mentioned: Former Empress(3 generations ago) - Gloriosa, had the disease and left the country Former Empress(2 generations ago) Had the disease, unknown Former Empress(1 generation ago) Had the disease, died from it Current Empress - Boa Hancock

Sanji Joestar

"LOVE IS ALWAYS A HURRICANE!!!!" Granny says it's a saying from the eastern seas And in fact this is the third time we hear it. Both first were from Sanji First was when they were still suspecting Nami for having killed Usopp and him and Zoro were arguing about it. Zoro was like "What are you even talking about?" 😂 Second was with Dogguin, Sanji's Zombie That was one of the signs telling us this is his zombie.

Sanji Joestar

Jinbei was the second Warlord to be named.

Envyus

if Sanji landed here he would be dead im sure

charlie

Cute animals wandering in boas path only for her to kick them is one of my all time favorite bits because WHY? Who even thinks of this!? 😂

Extra Crispy

In fairness to Hancock luffy did get sent to the island for punching a celestial dragon in the face 😅

Extra Crispy
