This will be fully explained later in the story, this is unnecessary information at this point.

2024-12-19 00:19:58 +0000 UTCNow I like MHA don’t get me wrong… but bringing everyone together for the climax is something very common in most fiction. In fact pretty much most of the main shone bring everyone back at the final act. This isn’t what OP is talking about, they are referring to integrating characters throughout a story at each stage. Obviously other anime do it, but Oda is just very good at it. And one piece is double the length of most Shonen, so obviously Odas spends time integrating characters and themes.

2024-12-18 10:51:15 +0000 UTCZoro and Perona is such a weird mix, and Brook is just yeah, chilling. Even if it's filler, I looooooove the inclusion of Jonathan as one of the Marines summoned. For some reason it just feels so right for him to be there.

2024-12-18 09:19:28 +0000 UTCI know it's cool to hate on My hero but it literally almost had all the characters coming back for its final act, including one off civilians. I think it's just extremely bad faith to assume no other shonen is capable of it, This episode is from the 500+ ish chapter range, it took One Piece to last longer than almost all the other shonens to start bringing back a lot of those previous characters back into play

2024-12-18 08:08:28 +0000 UTCNot all the time, but mostly one piece is good with its handling of the characters in the wider world :) not just the straw hats

2024-12-18 07:36:29 +0000 UTCI completely agree, I love when we check in with characters that aren’t the straw hats. I love that One piece is a living breathing world, a lot of other anime definitely use characters as plot devices for a single arc. It’s nice that Oda checks back in with them and makes them pertinent to the story :)

2024-12-18 04:59:29 +0000 UTCAlso not really a "fortunate" thing all the time as some of these character should be dead. But we know Oda and his relationship with death in his work

2024-12-18 03:51:13 +0000 UTCHad this been any other shonen manga, such as Fairy Tail, Bleach, My Hero, Naruto, etc. You would never have seen Perona again. She would have just been "written out" with no explanation, basically just being used as a character centric to that arc only, but fortunately this is Eiichiro Oda, and his characters are a big part of this ever evolving world and story. I think you are beginning to see this now.

2024-12-18 02:17:56 +0000 UTCThe Marine hand salute at 14:30 in the reaction reminded me of this SBS Q: Oda-sensei! I've always wondered, aren't the Marine salutes kind of backward? I thought you saluted with the SIDE of your hand against the forehead! Explain please! P.N. Like That Oda: Oh, right. After all this time, I can't remember ever answering this one. Yes, it is a bit different than what you'd expect, but there's a reason. Sailors have pull all sorts of ropes on a sailboat to make sure it can sail, and the tar on the ropes makes their hands filthy and black. It would be rude to show those blackened hands to a superior officer, so they salute showing the back of the hand. It's the kind of courtesy you'd expect from the Marines.
