One Piece Episode 420 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

@edgard Is having to hunt and gather and find shelter to survive also slavery? If we take the logic all the way, then aren't we all slaves to our bodies and nature? But I know I'd rather find something I'm good at/don't hate doing, specialise in that and trade it for money than forage for my own food and build my own shelter.

Np

Kinako

I was trying to allude to something else but I digress since this is not the place to discuss it

klairvoyage

yeah sorry about that, lindsay felt really rough

BOLDcast

Nope

Will the legendary boldcast streak survive ? 😬

cyberc33

And imagine if hancock join the crew, she will be the female version of sanji all of time in ship and always flirting luffy hahaha

Hendra

I’ll checkout the Das Kapital manga.

Monkey D. Lucci

I suggest you read Das Kapital, lol

Vinny C

Oda has a rigorous work schedule which consist a 3 or 4 hour sleep schedule and mostly works all week. His family visits him once a week and during holiday breaks, spends times with them.

Monkey D. Lucci

There’s an older SBS question Oda answered in volume 21 about his involvement with the anime and mentions drawing character designs for anime-only episodes. Now, it might’ve changed since then because of his involvement in the movie Strong World, which came out in 2009, as did this episode. However, with Oda revealing his 3 or 4 hour sleep schedule and rarely spending time with his family once a week and on holiday breaks, I’m sure Oda only focuses on his manga and lets the team at Toei handle the anime, and gives input on which devil fruits not to use and character designs.

Monkey D. Lucci

Obviously a 9-5 isn’t on par with actual slavery but as someone who feels overwork and underpaid, I see what Carson was getting at too

Leighton

Just finished a 10 hour shift, this really spoke to me lol

Leighton

Is there not good reason to believe that some of the anime-only content added was on Oda's accord tho? Similarly to the Logue Town arc

klairvoyage

Robin story is the best by far

ignorantWeed

They've been building that bridge since the Heian era

Matthew Gilroy

Tell em' Carson

Matthew Gilroy

Soran and her story is anime-only. The canon part is Robin talking to the head guard of the bridge and the exposition dialogue spoken at that scene.

Monkey D. Lucci

lmao at least someone agrees the fruit there looks like a plungus from rick and morty 😂😭

ant

The other Straw Hats had two pages each to themselves, Zoro had three pages.

Monkey D. Lucci

What I said is the opposite of out of touch

BOLDcast

You have to work to live. Sounds like slavery to me

edgard

can you suggest a title to read from this man?

ideo

It's important to note that there are a lot of filler elements in these crew check-in episodes. Each member's story is equivalent to one page in the manga, so certain characters (like Soran) are invented for the anime.

Vinny C

tbh i work a 9-7 job and it do feel like slavery lot of times im with oda on this one hahaha

Pablo Mosqueda

People have been talking about wage slavery since the 1700's, it's not remotely out of touch. Even Frederick Douglass talked about this, educate yourself.

Vinny C

How is that out of touch?

Дмитро Подорван

I don't think that Oda compared hardworking on corporation with slavery. Also Oda that time when he wrote this manga, actually sleeped only 4 hours in day. Slavery is slavery

Jack Shadow

yeah iirc it was just the order that was swapped around here in these 4eps however, as far as the content for each of the 8 stories goes, they all all cut off at the same point as they did in the manga

klairvoyage

blaze it

Degenerick

Im sorry but comparing to actual slavery to people working 9-5 seems a lot out of touch

OnePieceLover321

When I first watched this, I saw it more as the show adding another layer to the world goverments cruelty. When the slavery auctions etc. was introduced in Sabaody, it was the celestial dragons bidding on the super strong and beautiful, using it for their own entertainment which is fucked up. You get the sense that, «wow these celestial dragons are above the law? how can the world government allow this?» kinda vibe. You knew the world government were evil already, but adds even more to it when they then show you this where they themselves are no different and are making internment camps of citizens from countries who refused to join with them.

Martin Hagen

Regarding the adaptation. There was indeed much jumping around. It got a little rearranged to fit in the (more or less) half-episode format

Drakojin

Bold of you to assume a bridge by the WG isn’t gonna have a crazy expensive toll.

Mo

Robin's little side quest is soooo interesting to me man, a very dark country on an ominous mission, located in the East Blue of all places.

EOussama

Tho i love the little added Luffy Hancock interactions at the beginning of these episodes I'm wondering if Hancock would actually be that hostile towards other women like Nami or Robin If anything I think they would get along pretty well as they can relate to each other's upbringings

Sanji Joestar

A bridge like that is an impossible task, remember that the celestial dragons are in charge of the world government, do you think these dickheads to want something useful?

hussam abdelalim

I'm not saying what this is or isn't an allegory for I'm just saying that interpretation seems pretty fair

Sanji Joestar

When they reference directly the allegory to Japan’s work culture, that is clearly comparing the bridge slaves’ idea of working for the next generation to Japanese(adults) doing the same for their family. The original allegory was not about the whimsical nature of a child’s dream vs adult reality, it was about the similarities of the bridge people and oppressive work culture.

Mister Kap

☝🏾100% Agree Believing in something that may or may not come true in her life someday, like Saul said, to find friends who'll accept and love her. And because she never stops looking until the very end with Crocodile she was able to meet the crew.❤️ '' Dereshishi '' to laugh like that when things get tough. With the crew she's laughing genuinely, so no need for it.

Sanji Joestar

I think it's a pretty good allegory exploration. Soran believing it shows how kids have a more idealistic view of the world to cope and become less disillusioned as they grow up. These thoughts are likely what these adults believed when they were themselves kids working here but had to surrender to tge reality that they'll never escape. Tge bridge's been going on for 700 years, many of them probably thought they'd get to see it complete in their lifetime before accepting it's not happening.

Sanji Joestar

Thanks for the video. The allegory analysis might have gone a bit to deep here, lol. The girl said she was born there, likely many of the people here were born there, and presumably die there. In terms of the people believing they are doing something for the 'greater good' or fulfilling some higher purpose that will benefit their next generation, I doubt any of the adults on that bridge actually believe that. We only get the slimmest idea of that kind of thinking contained in the dream of a little girl, not something I would then attribute to a broad swath of adults who have labored as slaves their entire lives at gunpoint.

Mister Kap

Interesting thoughts on the bridge. The world government using people who don't belong to their system as slaves or forced labor is really messed up.

Sanji Joestar

Robin's whole story (from her backstory to her time away from the crew) is always so tragic but continues to accompany the theme of hope. She remains my favorite One Piece character. Her sharing her travel stories with the prisoners feels so sad yet heartwarming. The histories of many places around the world are filled with cruelty. But we continue to dream of the end of the suffering. I too dream of the days things will get better in my own life. A dream deferred.

S

Robin's story 😨 Usopp's story 🤥
