Update & Musings
Added 2015-09-10 00:28:28 +0000 UTCJust wanted to let you know I've been focusing on "Spoils of War AKA Dark Tropico" (any suggestions for a better name?). I am very close on completing the CR3 DLC mod v2 (with vids embedded) but to be honest I needed a break from that universe for a bit. I hope to have some screenshots to share to give you an idea of SoW soon. I've been surprised how much progress I've made-- hard lessons from previous work have taught me something. I've always come at these projects from a story/content focus first then tried to make it all 'work'. This time I have done the opposite-- I have concentrated efforts on getting the engine/UI/factors right before dropping in the fun bits (which is prolly the way you're supposed to develop!). I suspect that dev-types might take the opposite approach, where you imagine a user experience, then coming up with the background. Of course, it all must wind up in the middle for something good to come out of it.
SoW doesn't have the scope or depth of CR3 but it seems like it is fast moving and good for a nice bang-it-out in an hour type user experience. With that said, it should be replayable, based on the options I'm adding in and the controversial random element. Some games will open up rewards and others won't but hopefully there will be enough of a range so that isn't a bug but a feature.
Right now, it is playing out like a somewhat realistic rebel vs big guys type game where it takes you a while to start getting some wins but once you do (like a lot of uprisings) it snowballs quickly. Your band conducts raids on the periphery but as you knock over softer targets, you're able to ramp up rapidly and start hitting harder targets you need to knock over. What makes it potentially enjoyable will be the raceplay elements (the gov is white, the rebels are a mixed of different non-white minorities) and the ability to capture and use slaves (both a 'fun' element and an economic one).
It isn't playable yet but it is getting there-- stay tuned and thank you for your support! I'll also keep adding other SelectaCorp content as well-- hopefully you've enjoyed the dox etc I've uploaded already.
Please write if you have any comments/feedback/ideas/etc! Plus, I need input for project pipeline!
