Another Nice Review!

"The final chapter in the trilogy, Corporate Raider 3 shows that the author has learned a lot from the previous games. While getting the hang of it can take some time and a couple of start-overs, this game really pays off as soon as you get past the first project. I'd making everyone a disservice if I didn't highly recommend it.

Of course, keep in mind that you have to enjoy its themes to actually enjoy the game itself: if you don't like playing the part of the slaver, stay away from the Corporate Raider series."

Done. It is well past midnight for me - off to bed.

Thanks for the kind offer! As you might have figured out by now, I'm not a native speaker either. So, don't worry: I'm sure I'll very much appreciate what you've written, and there'll be lots of inspiring elements in there. If you could send it to jonespeter2424@googlemail.com, that would be great. I you like I'd be happy to share my thoughts on your outline with you.

Sure I’ll try and find it tomorrow. It is not edited and I’m not a native speaker so be warned. Just give me an email address to send it to. Went for an alternative history version but it needs a lot of work to be coherent. That being said I suppose there might be elements someone might find useful. I’d explain the details but just read it for yourself.

Annother example just came to my mind: Almost all women I know have at least one tattoo. Why? Social influence, media... - not the law! So, focus on marketing, I would suggest!

If you don't mind me coming a little late to the discussion: I can certainly agree with most things that my fellow posters Ulver, esc and Romanul have stated. Thank you all for sharing your insights! As being kind of a policy-nut, I tried to aproach the rolling-back of female right from several angles myself - and also failed to make it even half-realistic (@Ulver: Would you be willing to share your unfinished outline with us? I would very much like to read it!). The idea of equal rights is not only deeply engrained into our (current western) political systems, it it also a very much capitalistic ideal (expanding the exploitable workforce, rasing the number of consumers etc.) Therefore a corporate setting indeed makes sense, with a certain degree of blackmail and force but ultimately, the level of exploitation is limited by the demands to keep the company profitable. Even in CR, how to you gain power? By sucessfully completing projects inside the companies materialistics imperative! So unless you leave capitalism behind and move e.g. to a country ruled by religious ideals like islam - where women are locked away at home and the families honour, not their wealth determins their rank in society - it will be very difficult to go back to the 1950ties idea of "barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen" - which would be one potential roll-back scenario. The other would be pure, violent slavery - which would only be possible in a post-apocalyptic setting where the economy and governmental systems have collapsed totally - e.g. in "A handmaids tale", annother religious distopia. To be honest, both scenarios involve a massive decline in living standard - it is hard to imagine working being otherwise. So believe that realistically, SC/CR & white slavery scenarios are only possible on a small scale, for a wealthy and powerful elite. For example the idea of Ulver: I'd like to see a scenario where a small band of females is captured and enslaved in a foreign country - that might be a nice scenario for 10 women or so. But I don't see how these numbers could be increased realistically within the "near-reality" frame of CR. The other option would be change the rules and produce a "alternate-reality" frame, a whole new universe. The questions is: Do we and does the creator of SC want to do that? I would like to propose annother, more relaistic idea: What if we build on the existing trends in media, in fashion, in education etc. and accelerate/push certain trends, e.g. via coporate media influence, all within the frame of the existing political & economic frame? A simple example: Why do women wear pants, e.g. jeans? Because they are comfortable, en vogue and are marketet to them as "trend". So, let's bring advertisement, fashion industry and media together and decide: Women should only be allowed to wear skirts! We start promoting skirts, and only skirts in womens fashion. You won't be able to find a single pair of womens pants in clothing stores from next year on - besides some ugly and unconfortable "token" pants to provide the illusion of free choice. Each and every model in all the teen magazines and fashion outlets would wear skirts. All medical jounals would feature stories how dangerous pants are for womens health... How long woulds it take until 85+% of all young women onyl wear skirts? How many women would wear pantyhose with their skirts if they would cost 200$ - while seamed nylons stockings (and garters belts) would be sold by H&M, Primark, Zara an such stores for 5$ a pair? What if a pair of sneakers would cost 400$ (as certain models already do), but 4inch-heeled sandals 10$? Oh, and if loafers would cost a fortune, but high heels are inexpensive, fashinable and available everywhere, we should all consider making them mandatory at schools, colleges and offices - as a social policy, of course, to prevent girls from not-so-wealthy background to be discriminated against! That, after all, is the idea behind (school) uniforms. So sorry for the long post, I just wanted to get my point across: Let's work inside the system!

Let me just quickly chime in and say that I completely agree with the ideas both Ulver and Romanul were discussing in regards to how to deepen female enslavement in subsequent releases in the Selectacorp setting. My previous post was simply attempting to address why the CR games have the themes they do. In a lot of ways, CR3 is the "tipping point" in my eyes where the world situation has deteriorated to a point where stronger control and dominance can be asserted without public outcry.

Can I just say I appreciate the detailed, readable and well thought responses one gets on this blog? Having begun to read up on the Pam universe I have to confess being somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer amount of material and deeply impressed by the quality of it. That being said I think I see plenty of anti-feminist legal and social reforms along the lines of what I outlined in my post. A “corporatist” world with rising income inequality is what we are facing in the real world with no impact on female rights along the lines outlined in the material. Clearly a concerted anti-feminist effort is required on top of it – a political game about enacting such reforms would seem an excellent subject for a CR3 successor game in the political sphere I can totally see how rewarding gender traitors could be a deliberate policy as they are extremely useful in taming other women. It is totally consistent with how I see the hero’s psychology: Women *should be rewarded* for gender treason – arguably the only permissible way for a female to advance should be to facilitate the subjugation and dis-empowerment of other women to proper male control. Hence the relative leniency shown to Alexis and Candace. I have no problem with that. I also want to reiterate that I wasn’t complaining in the least – I appreciate the slow burn every bit as much as you did. The idea has so much appeal to be that I wrote an unfinished 80+ page outline describing a semi-realistic roll-back of female rights. Mind you a post on the alternate history board quickly showed just many factors I hadn’t considered. http://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?p=6371448#post6371448 – might be of interest. In any case I eventually realized I couldn’t make it even half way believable. Getting back to the original point. The player in CR is clearly stated as working for a white slavery corporation so it doesn’t seem jarring to me if his corporate whores were to be further indentured. I suppose the most realistic way would be to arrange for them to be posted to a foreign branch where their passport, documents and valuables confiscated? – Ideally somewhere where they do not speak the language? Akin to the way it has been done IRL. Instead of bribing corrupt foreign leaders with a Picasso why not bribe them with a girl from the corporate dormitory being offered an exciting foreign posting?

I'll chime in my two cents. The Selectacorp setting is inspired by and based off the Personal Assistant Magazine (PAM) universe which was also done by Selecta. PAM also inspired the Exec2Sec fetish which is what CR 1-3 is largely centered on. It's supposed to be an "early day" scenario where things in the world are starting to go downhill but haven't become fully dystopian. So the world at large still does parallel our modern day world, which would recoil and revolt against the shady practices and businesses done by Selectacorp if they were fully known. It's designed with slow burn storytelling in mind so the player can savor his active role in the deconstruction of confident and haughty feminists into simpering men-pleasers writhing under your thumb. I'd agree that most the situations presented in CR 1-3 are supposed to be dubcon as opposed to outright noncon. The girls still do largely go along with what's being presented though they may feel embarrassed or ashamed of their compromise. The main memetic in Corporate Raider is "the alternative is always worse ". So why do all the lovely ladies in CR submit to the player's cruel control through the oppressive corporate policies? It's because what is out there is worse. They understand if they attempt to leave that they'll most likely be unemployable so their only alternative is less savory means of making money (e.g. a stripper working the pole at a titty bar OR a streetwalker hustling her corner for petty cash). At least in the office, they can pretend to be working a respectable white collar job despite being a call girl. In return for her submission she's fed, given a warm place to sleep with clean sheets, and even earns a pittance where she can treat herself to something on occasion (e.g. going to the mall and window shopping drinking a soda). Of course, there are still taboos in which various girls will not willingly indulge (e.g. Debbie/Katherine Jones, Jennifer and Mackenzie Page). And this is where the "darker" side to the Selectacorp world shows up, moving more firmly into noncon territory. 'll also note that the inconsistent treatment of the various girls in CR3, Alexis and Candace, is based off the idea of "gender traitor" and lays the groundwork for the PAM universe where there are "office managers" who receive better pay and more rights in return for abusing other women. Admittedly, this memetic is something largely informed to the player and seen through various Easter eggs (all the water cooler reports) rather than a focus of CR 1-3. I also received the impression that Artemis was supposed to be more the exception to the rule in this case, a bastion for feminists to flock around against the shifting world situation. It's noted when the player tells Jennifer that her delusion of the little insular queendom she set up is now finished. It'd might potentially have had more impact if there were more scenes in CR3 of the eroding situation for women and their future. Like in the Calendar, there is a sequence(s) where the player evaluates 5-10 female candidates out of hundreds who applied for a Junior Office Girl position that day alone. And perhaps there could be an especially desperate girl at the end who has managed to sneak in and is begging for a minute of the player's time to impress him. I do feel like this is what the Katie Jones Interview was supposed to have been implying. Irregardless, I'm a huge fan of Selecta's work for this very reason. The story-telling is quite immersive and the slow burn is wonderfully executed. Basically, it's hard to tell the water is heating until the pot is at a full boil. Oh, and one more note. I know Selecta has done Arcanas more in-line with what Ulver and Romanul are speaking about. Arcana 30 and Arcana FYEO 1 come to mind.

Indeed. Reforming the criminal justice system is yet another area of reform our hero could focus on I a sequel. Young female offenders are hardly hardened criminals who belong in prison. The appropriate response to “female delinquency” should be some form of enlighten guardianship under the oversight of qualified guardians Personally I feel an enlighten approach to reform would enact laws protecting women from harm being modeled on those protecting children. I would be especially concerned with the harm inappropriate work roles could do. Perhaps “Fem-Guard” filtering software modeled on that protecting children.

Perhaps the only real problem i have regarding cohesion of story is the how the PA(Debbie I believe is her name) is treated in CR3. When she refuses to help in "capturing" her sister she can be brutally pushed and kept(clearly implied against her will) in a facility yet afterwards it's also implied she can leave at any time(although she'll probably end up on the streets). Maybe it was my sloppy reading but that was the only moment when I felt I left the corporate "taming" world and switch to slaver only to revert back immediately. "Perhaps a way could be found to tighten to reins further, putting them under lock and key and confiscating their earnings? Perhaps the expertise of this board could be brought to bear on the problem?" Corporate Raider has a charm of its on as a "women-tamer". I wouldn't really go further. At least not in this series. The problem for me would be that the protagonist will seem like having multiple personalities. He would let the single mom (the head of compliance) go free, let Alexis be relatively free and the other would be slaves. I would like to see a dark version of CR3 where a breakaway faction of SelectaCorp would try to take control of a corporation through more coercive means. As far the dorm issue is concerned I would go for making them break the law and having them go to jail. It would have to be something petty yet with a big sentence (like accidentally having a gram of cocaine on them, shoplifting etc). The protagonist could blackmail them or, even more devious, have them go through the system and arranging a parole(if that's the correct term) which would mean working for you company and a single notice from you could send them back. The seal could be made permanent if the girls will become a convicted felon on parole after committing another small offense(which you would be sure to provide). That would mean you could retain their paycheck and only allow them some cash (they would have to summit a form in advance detailing the items they need to purchase etc).

So if one was in a critical mood one could question whether our hero can legitimately call himself a fully- qualified slaver? No offense intended of course. In fairness to him he clearly does have considerable expertise in recuing women into semi-consensual prostitution by means of deception and subterfuge. I for one am full of admiration for his skill and expertise in the fine art of women-taming – perhaps that is a more appropriate description so far: Women Tamer? Or if one may be excused the vulgarity: Bitch-breaker? Still I would tend to agree that there are a few steps missing. Having girls living in dormitories under curfew restrictions and being put to work as corporate whores while used as payment to powerful men to facilitate the disempowerment of other women is all well and good. Somehow it just feels wrong them still having the power to walk out. Perhaps a way could be found to tighten to reins further, putting them under lock and key and confiscating their earnings? Perhaps the expertise of this board could be brought to bear on the problem? One of the reasons I feel some sort of political simulator might be a logical next step for the series is that legal and social reforms outside the realm of internal corporate policy are urgently needed to address issues such as this. Policing the movements and behavior of shameless harlots in the name of public decency is just one example.

"One odd thing about corporate raider is that the player takes on the role of a white slaver that doesn’t actually get around to enslaving anyone." Yeah, it's definitely not enslaving in my book. The girls are always given the option to leave(even forced to leave via firing). Heck you even admit you can't keep Alexis (the lesbian) around because she actually has marketable skills and you have to bait her by providing a girlfriend. The girls stay because it's a better option to remain with you. You're mostly a (corporate) pimp.

That's why I'm so interested in the Spoils of War game. I believe this is the first game by Selecta where you're actually a slaver.

I agree. One thing CR3 as much as the previous games emphazises is the non-consensual nature of the female submission. You see their hate and despise while being degraded and put to their place.

I completely agree with this review. Where is it taken from? One odd thing about corporate raider is that the player takes on the role of a white slaver that doesn’t actually get around to enslaving anyone. Seems to me he really is more of a female personal manager. An expert one to be sure with a real genius for making uppity feminists into docile belted secretaries living under firm and proper oversight - but does that constitutes enslavement strictly speaking? Not a complaint by any means just an observation. I certainly find the process of a woman gradually losing her position, independence and self-respect to be by far most interesting part of a capture and enslavement scenario. The process being what it is all about rather than the end destination
