"Lackadaisy Dandelion" Process

First attempt at a process video.

I cut out a bunch of color adjustment work at the very end because I was waffling back and forth about altering the strictly gold palette or sticking with it...for hours. In retrospect, I think I probably should have left the original colors, but that much yellow gets to be unpleasant once you've stared at it for 16 or so hours.

I also zoomed in on the video clip for much of it because I wasn't sure how helpful seeing the Photoshop menus would be at this speed.  That also might not have been the right thing to do.  I don't know.

Anyway, the point is that feedback is welcome so that I can do better next time.

I made some selections, made a new layer via copy, and set the new layer to color dodge (screen works also, depending on what you're trying to achieve) to intensify the lighting where sunlight would be strongest. Then I softened the edges of the new layer, blended it back into the base layer and merged it back down. Applying a gaussian blur to the color dodge or screen highlight so that it attenuates outside the borders of whatever shape you're working can create a sort of 'bloom' effect as well.

I love process videos. Saw some techniques I had not seen before. When you put the light spots on freckle, what settings did you use? at about 20:52.

Christina

It was all good. Especially those eyes. OMG, those eyes ...

Tim Eastman

Mesmerising. The whole process is entirely alien to me, from start to finish, but fascinating to watch!

Mangsney

You're so freaking talented. I'm just in awe. This was so cool to watch!

Caity Walker

I am even more in awe of your work now than I was before.

Thank you for the kind feedback, Sessine!

Tracy Butler

Well, thank you! I'm honored you like it that much. I will make sure 4DE makes poster sized prints available in the near future (the primary staff is out of town for some big conventions right now, but they'll be back soon).

Thanks Mae! I'm very pleased to hear you found it useful!

Mae

Do you have plans to see this as a poster? Maybe 3' X 4' in size? Because I want to frame it & hang it on my living room wall! What a huge amount of work; you have exemplary patience and devotion to excellence. It's inspiring; thank you.

Larry Contrary

Coming from an artistic family but not being blessed with the "art" gene, I am completely fascinated by the painstakingly intimate detailing that goes into a work like this. Thank you for sharing your gift with us!!!

Tristan Anderson

This is wonderful and astonishing, especially watching that gorgeous lighting emerging out of nothing. I would also happily have watched a 1-hour video at half the speed. Or even slower! There's so much to learn from watching an expert at work.

Sessine

Great video, would love to see more of these!

Rael

I've always wanted to see a process video from you Tracy :D This is so beautiful and inspiring
