They left out a lot about the house elves. It's not really necessary to the story, but it explains some stuff. They must obey the orders of the family they serve, and not speak ill about them, otherwise they punish themselves. Sirius left his house to Harry which is why Kreacher obeys his order. Dobby ends up working at Hogwarts and wears all sorts of clothes. Dumbledore pays him and gives him days off. Hermione cannot believe house elves are slaves. She starts a group to liberate them called SPEW. I forget what it stands for. In the book, Hermione and Ron's kiss happens because Ron suggests they get the house elves out, not to fight, but to get them out of the line of fire. I love your reaction to the bathroom thing. I can't imagine how that idea wasn't shot down by everyone. One of the great credits to Hermione's genius is that Umbridge has her doing all sorts of court stuff downstairs and she's keeping up and Umbridge suspects nothing. I've always wondered wtf Umbridge's happy memory is to make her patronus. Probably some sort of awful nightmare. The eye in the middle of her door is Moody's. It enrages Harry when he sees it. When he leaves, he steals it and buries it under the oldest and most gnarled oak tree he can find. It's so amazing how much shit Hermione put into that little bag. She had pretty much anything and everything she thought they'd need or could use. That girl knows how to be prepared. Hermione's reading of the story is fantastic. I loved the animation too. Strangely enough, now that I'm watching this again, it's the first time I noticed that the Elder Wand was drawn to look exactly like Dumbledore's wand. The cloak had the same pattern on it as Harry's. Some of the stuff they didn't explain I thought could've been mentioned... like that Snatchers go around catching muggle borns who've gone into hiding or that Voldemort's name had been made taboo to speak. It's why the Death Eaters arrived immediately at the Lovegood house. It wasn't until the Half Blood Prince that I started feeling really bad for Draco. You can tell he knows what he's doing is wrong, but he's terrified for himself and his family. He genuinely knew it was Harry, but said nothing. It would've been way way too graphic for a PG-13 movie, but in the book Peter Pettigrew isn't stunned. Harry says something about Peter owing him and Peter lets Harry and Ron go. The silver hand Voldemort gave him senses the betrayal and strangles him to death while Ron and Harry try helplessly to save him. Daniel Radcliffe did an amazing job acting in Dobby's death scene. In the behind the scenes video, he's not holding anything that remotely looks like Dobby. It's a log with some rags on it. Dobby dying is a character death I had so much trouble with. Rowling just took her death stick and started poking everyone. This movie ended with a huge cliffhanger and so much darkness and death. The Deathly Hallows are my two favorite movies though.

2022-08-08 03:49:26 +0000 UTCI've had so much loss in my life, (death & otherwise) that when I first saw Dobby pass away I cried for weeks. You handled it so much better than I did.

2022-08-07 00:09:20 +0000 UTCA lot of fans of the books don't like the dance between Harry and Hermione because it's not in the books and can often be misconstrued as them hinting that there might be feelings between the two, but that's not the case at all and I actually love that scene. There was nothing romantic at all in that gesture from Harry, it was purely to make his friend feel better and smile for a brief moment in time when everything seemed bleak and depressing. I see it as such a beautiful moment of compassion from one friend to another. He gets her to laugh and to smile, and then at the end it's back to reality. It's nothing more than that. There's kind of that moment where they stop and look at each other, almost allowing something to happen between the two of them if there was something there, but it just shows that it's purely platonic between Harry and Hermione. The song ended, they stopped dancing, and Hermione's face returned to one of sadness and sorrow. And Harry sees that his plan to cheer her up had only worked for that short period of time. Also Im so excited for u to get to part 2!! It's one of my fav movies of the franchise because of the filmmaking itself (has some stunning visuals and music) but also how it wraps everything up! Although it's not 100% accurate to the book, it's still a fantastic ending to the film series! I know you'll really enjoy it

2022-07-06 01:51:55 +0000 UTCHarry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone (1997), 223 pages. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998), 251 pages. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999), 317 pages. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000), 636 pages. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2003), 766 pages. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005), 607 pages. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (607 pages). So, as you can see, the first 3 books are quite short. Starting with the 4th book, they become much longer. Because of this, more than half of some of the books are cut out (especially with the 5th book/movie). They're are, of course, extraneous sub-plots that don't need to be in the movies, and these are generally taken out to focus on the overarching story. However, sometimes, they would add scenes into the movies that weren't in the books. In the 6th movie, the attack and fire at the Burrow (the Weasley's home) never happened in the book. In the 7th movie, I don't recall that dancing scene between Harry and Hermione in the book (although, I could be misremembering this one as the 7th book is the one I've read the least often). There are others that I don't recall. Even some very important side information gets cut from the transition from book to film, which is unfortunate. Even with the final book being split into 2 movies, they still cut quite a bit from the book (I can't quite remember what was cut from the book as it's been a while since I've read the series). I'm glad you've come around to Dobby! He's one of my favorite characters in this series (they cut a lot of his stuff in the movies, in fact, I think he's only in 2 movies). They cut a lot of stuff with Neville, Luna, Ginny, Snape, Dumbledore, and many others. I kind of wish they would remake HP as a TV series on Netflix or HBO. That way we can really dive into all the characters and plotlines in the books. Anyways, I enjoyed your reaction as always, Travis!
