What is happening in life

Let me preface this by saying, if you live in the US, if you are getting towards the age to apply for Social Security and Medicare, if they try to get you to enroll in an advantage plan, RUN. From where I am sitting right now, in Rural America, Advantage plans are doing their best to kill off the elderly by denying them service or making them go hundreds of miles to just see a doctor or get a tests done. It's not like there is not a hospital 17 miles away that can't do every test they want without issue, other than it is not in her insurance plan.

I have done nothing but drive thousands of miles this month taking mom to specialists and having tests done so the surgeon can have the best chance of doing the surgery on mom.

Three is a level one trauma center and hospital system 68 miles away from here, it has every specialty one could ask for, she can't use it. They want her to go to a hospital 128 miles east of here, unless it is of course relating to cardiac, Vascular, Orthopedic and Neural. For that she has to use a hospital in the next state 268 miles from here.

And the real kicker, if you go onto an Advantage plan, good  luck going back to regular Medicare, you have to go to underwriting and they can deny you for the simplest things, like getting regular injections. Mom gets an injection in her one eye every 8 weeks for wet macular degeneration, so one Medicare Medi-gap plan rejected her, even though all costs are covered by another plan.

I'm supposed to get a call next week from scheduling to tell me what day mom's surgery will be, which during the whole procedure she has to be awake for so they know her brain is not being denied blood flow.

In between that, and trying to set mom up for a new health plan next year, one group of poultry from a New Mexico hatchery have been found to have been infected with a disease passed on through the eggs. I lost that whole barn and had to depopulate them and bury them. Now I am in the process of cleaning up and sterilizing everything.
