2023-08-04 16:39:14 +0000 UTCI grew up in the 80s and early 90s. I was vehemently taught to never say Indian. It wasn't until I started watching Longmire and googled around that I realized it's not as offensive a label as I was led to believe. Finding that so many aren't offended by it has made me rethink a lot of the changes that have been happening in the past few decades like changing sport team names and removing or changing branding and marketing logos.

2023-08-04 16:13:17 +0000 UTCI’m Algonquin and it’s my opinion that no matter a person’s ethnicity or background, they’re allowed to have an opinion on this sort of thing. I agree with you that the word “Indian” is outdated, and some people consider it offensive. But a lot of Indigenous people call themselves Indian with pride, including most people where I’m from. In my experience, it’s typically young/naive/emotional people (“Karens”) who get offended on behalf of these people, and try to take away the language Indigenous people have been using for a long time. Every native person I know refers to themselves as Indian, and so does my family. Sometimes it’s Indigenous, sometimes Native, sometimes they’ll say their actual tribe/band. But most people I meet don’t have a problem with Indian. They don’t see it as “internalized racism” or whatever the woke mob try to paint it as. Anyway, I think everyone should get an opinion, regardless of race. You’re allowed to speak your mind. Great reaction as always!
