OUCH!

Note: The moment where Aragorn kicks the helmet and kneels in an anguished yell of pain, he broke his toe on the helmet, they kept the shot.

I was OB SESSED with this series of movies back when they came out. The extras on these are 100% worth watching and simply incredible, honestly, and there's a lot of them. One of the most memorable parts of the marketing for The Two Towers at the time was the way people were freaking out at Sir Ian McKellen trying to find out if he was in the film before the trailers came out (they filmed all of them at once, basically, if you didn't know!). McKellen's response to those fans was 'Gandalf the Grey is dead.' Such a brilliant way to handle the spoiler!! Another crazy thing about this film when it was set to come out was that 9/11 had happened recently enough that people were UP IN ARMS about whether the title of the movie should be changed out of respect...

Darsy Smith

Yeah, he's in a lot of stuff. Look out for him in the MCU, too

Oh, ya, great job with this one. You know my hope for the final film...please.

Aside from fleshing out some back story and explaining character motivation, the extended version did correct one glaring omission. At the end, the Ents sent a mass of moving trees to Helm's Deep. They wiped out any orcs that escaped the battle site. Not seeing this on my first theater viewing really bothered me. Btw, did you recognize another actor you've been seeing recently? He played Eomer here.

JIM SCHMITZ

Sure do!

And yes all the films were filmed at once.

Oh yes! I love this movie (and this trilogy) so much! It's actually my favorite trilogy ever. I will warn you about the final movie in this trilogy: it's a long one (theatrical version is around 3 1/2 hours, extended is over 4 hours), so even on Patreon you might want to split it in half. Now let's get into the goodies of this movie! So, a lot of the main characters are older than you might think. Legolas is at least several centuries old (perhaps over a millennium old, it's not that clear). Gimli is around 139 years old. Aragorn is 87 years old and even remembers seeing a child version of King Theoden the last time he was in Rohan (he was riding with King Theoden's father). Frodo is around 50 years old. Not sure how old Sam is, but I'm pretty sure he's younger than Frodo. Merry and Pippin are considerably younger than Frodo. In fact, Pippin is young enough to be Frodo's son (if he had him at a young age, for a hobbit). Gollum is around 500 years old. Also, the actor (Andy Serkis) who plays Gollum (motion capture and voice) is in the MCU. I wonder if you'll be able to recognize him in a live-action role? Unless you've already seen him in a live-action role. Oh yeah, do you recognize Sam from something you've reacted to?
