Consider what we know about Cordy thus far, specifically how hyper-focused she is on appearance and what people think of her, based on how she reacts at the idea of being seen talking to Buffy and Co. I think the frizzy hair thing is a reflection of a larger fear—of looking ugly or appearing uncool in front of her friends. As you later said, while I was writing the above part, she is afraid of being a nerd, but this was back when being a nerd was a bad thing and nerds were outcaasts. It could get pretty bad back then. “You didn’t notice him (the Ugly Man) before?” No. I don’t believe he walked into the room normally, and thus Bully should have “noticed him.” This is a nightmare, and in nightmares, logic does not always apply. I think he just appeared, as in, not there one minute, there the next, so when Billy said he’s here, it was because he suddenly just was. “Knowledge girl.” I’ve noticed you picking up on the unusual speech and language in this show. Some of what you pick up on are phrases that were used at the time, and which you may not be familiar with, but some of it, like with that instance, is a way of speaking that, at the time, was written for, and is unique to, this show. BTVS has had such an enormous influence on pop culture and television, on the way stories are told, that other shows have taken inspiration from it. Once you’ve seen the show a lot, you may start to “hear” it trickle into other shows. “Bent" is not an example of this. Bent, meaning crazy or messed up, was a thing before this. The way characters talk on this show has become so influencial that it’s become known as Buffy-speak. Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural all use it. Listen carefully to the way Dean Winchester in Supernatural talks. He uses it a lot. I can’t think of good examples now, but when it comes up in this show again, I’ll see if I can point it out. If I watched Teen Wolf, VP, or Supernatural on here (no time) I would show you when it happens, but it’s there. It’s fascinating to watch. Did you know there is a word for fear of clowns? I looked it up when another friend told me they were afraid of them. It’s called Coulrophobia.
