Chapter 48: The Lizardmen and the Girl

“Stop, you damn bea- ouch!” A large branch hit him right in the face.

The lizard continued to run through the dense forest at an incredible speed like it was possessed.

“Ahhhh!”

Amidst the commotion, Zephyr heard someone scream in the distance.

“Nooo!, leave me alone!”

“A girl?” He heard her scream again, this one felt a lot closer.

It became evident that the zarlag was running straight towards her position.

“What is going on?!, why are you not listening to me?!” Zephyr shouted at his mount before he had to dodge another tree branch.

It was hard to tell what was ahead because everything was too dark and covered by leaves.

But all of a sudden, the area became a lot brighter.

“Ahhh!” The girl screamed again, much louder than before.

“Whoa?!” Zephyr exclaimed when he saw that they had left the trees behind and entered a small clearing with a lake on it.

His eyes became sharper when he saw the owner of the voice near the shore of the lake.

The girl appeared to be injured and trying to limp away from her attackers.

But the most shocking part was the attackers themselves…they were neither human nor beasts.

They appeared to be some type of humanoid lizards with bluish scales, carrying wooden spears. There were four in total and they all looked very similar to each other.

“What are those things?... Identify!”

‘Those guys are strong…’ Zephyr thought.

He began to consider his options when he realized that the zarlag was yet to stop and continued to run directly at these lizardmen.

“Wait, stop!” He shouted.

This caught the attention of the four lizardmen and the injured girl.

Zephyr was left with no other choice but to jump off the mount as it continued to run, only to stop before the four lizardmen, who started to hiss at each other and at the zarlag. They appeared to be having a conversation.

The injured girl turned to look at him.

“You!, you need to get out of here!. They are going to kill you!”

Zephyr was surprised. Not only because he thought the girl was about to ask for his help but also because of her physical looks.

Just last night, he was dreaming about a girl that looked identical to her. The injured girl in front of him was an identical replica of that Elmerian Princess who got sent to the Emperor.

‘How is that possible?, this can't be a coincidence.’

[Warning…hostile presence detected…]

“Careful!” She shouted.

Zephyr jumped backward to avoid being pierced by a spear.

‘Identify.’

‘They sent the weakest one to fight me…’

The other three lizardmen did not move from their spots and seemed to be more wary of the injured girl than him.

Also, his lizard mount was standing calmly next to them.

‘You traitor!’ Zephyr wanted to yell at the zarlag but this was not the time.

“Fine!, come at me!” 

Zephyr extended his hand forward and aimed it well at the lizardman's chest. When this one tried to attack him again…he took his shot.

“Lightning strike!”

The lizardman was not wearing any kind of armor or other protection other than its tough scales.

However, they did not seem to be very effective against his lightning as his attack burned his chest, leaving a gaping hole in it.

The lizardman let out some loud hisses and fell down.

[Lightning Strike is now Level 5]

“Ha!, that’s what you get for looking down on me!” Zephyr huffed.

The other lizardmen started to hiss at him and turned to point their spears at his person now.

The one in charge told them something and the two lizardmen warriors moved closer to him while their Chief remained close to the girl.

The injured girl was staring at him with pure shock in her eyes while clutching at her bleeding leg.

“You are going to take me seriously now, huh?. Well, come on!”

[Level up…status recovery]

His eyes moved to the downed lizardman…it had just passed away.

This also meant that his mana and health were back at full now.

“Come on!” He yelled at the lizardmen.

The two of them ran towards his sides, trying to get him with a pincer-type attack.

But Zephyr had an answer for this.

“Lightning Nova!”

The warriors were taken by surprise and got hit by the wave of lightning.

One of them was closer to him and appeared to have received a much stronger impact, making him stumble backward.

Unfortunately for Zephyr, the other one had been barely on the edge and didn't take much damage from his attack.

“Zzzzzz!” The lizardman warrior hissed at him and attacked with his spear.

Zephyr grunted as the tip of the spear pierced his abdomen.

He grabbed the wooden weapon before the lizardman could pull it off him.

Zephyr smiled at the creature as blood poured from his lips.

“I wasn't done yet…” He aimed his palm at its head.

“Lightning strike!”
