ES-DE 3.1.1-39 is now available for download
Added 2024-12-13 17:14:02 +0000 UTCWe're happy to announce that ES-DE 3.1.1-39 for Android is now available for download!
This release adds translations for German, Korean, Dutch and Catalan, reduces the application memory footprint, enables a number of new emulators and fixes numerous bugs.
The default audio driver has been changed from AAudio to OpenSL ES which should decrease audio latency on many devices. There is however a new menu entry in the Sound settings menu that makes it possible to easily revert to AAudio in case of issues with the OpenSL ES driver.
This release also brings experimental support for running ES-DE in multi-window mode on devices that have this functionality enabled by the hardware manufacturer.
There are many additional improvements, see the Changelog for all details.

I've gotten 74 of 83 systems I've thrown at it so far working. I haven't had any luck getting vintage computers like coco & apple2 w the MAME4droid method (plenty of 0.275 arcade ROMs that depend on bios files launch just fine). All in all, having already ramped up on Batocera Linux & ES-DE in macOS made configuring Android pretty straightforward. Look forward to contributing new systems & the tweaks I added to get a few to work so others can benefit. again nice job Leon!

So I guess we're left high and dry, since Samsung refuses to play nice and so too does ES-DE. I don't for a second buy that it "isn't feasible" to host a second APK on Patreon and just add a note to the Galaxy app store page. You're being just as unreasonable as Samsung, so thanks a bunch, mate.

And people would most definitely buy the wrong version all the time. It's simply not feasible to do it, the proper solution would be for Samsung to change their DeX policy to allow apps with home app suport to use DeX.

Simply putting out a separate APK lacking home/launcher functionality would mean these users can also use ES-DE. Earlier versions of ES-DE already do this! It's only a matter of restoring what was previously available as a fork for the users who need it so that they don't have to run an outdated version without any of the other improvements.

It would be quite problematic to have two versions of ES-DE with and without home app support as we would need to have two completely separate apps on the Galaxy Store and on Patreon. I would say it's not feasible unfortunately.

2025-02-08 10:02:07 +0000 UTCCould we please have a Samsung DeX compatible fork of ES-DE? 🙏🙏🙏 Some Samsung devices (like my Tab S9) force the user to run DeX in order utilise USB-C to HDMI video out. The problem is that DeX blocks any app which can be set as the launcher/home app from opening.

However most of the issues you list must be due to some kind of configuration problem as they most definitely work and if setup correctly there are no double entries and such. Some things are different by design though compared to Batocera and Recalbox, like some system names as ES-DE was originally based on RetroPie EmulationStation and therefore use those system names. I'm also not sure what you mean with "classic ES structure" but like mentioned the system names are based on what RetroPie uses in most cases. I recommend joining our Discord server where someone should be able to help you resolve the configuration isues to get all the systems to work. I'm also very interested in hearing about additional emulators for the apple2 and lutro systems as I'm not aware of those being available on Android. But it's of course very possible that I've missed some. As well m3u files are generally supported for all systems where the emulators can launch such files but if you could let me know which systems should have them in addition I can for sure add them in. Few comments and feedback ( i use a classic ES Structure shared with Batocera, Rocknix and Recalbox, and all work fine ): - M3U files are not recognized ( big deal for multi disc game ) ES normally give priority to M3U the listed disc files. - Cannot hide folder with inner file priority in the interface. - Cannot hide systems ( when unwanted ) - Cannot hide system files in lists ( like each arcade sis in MAME ) - Though AMIGA cd32 roms laucnh, the scraper function does not recognize the CUE/Bin file format - AMIGA500 folder does not appear ( 1200 is ok ) - Apple 2 Appear but do not offer the right Emulators to run, same for MAC.. ( MAME2014 is not a good option...doesnt work ) - Daphne classic ES structure is not recognized - Dosbox does not take folder, creating a mess to launch ( not sure why...same problem as Daphne or SCUMMVM ) - Lutro s not working, does not offer alternative in emulator choice ( no lutro ) - MSU1 Super nintendo do not appear ( or are mixed in snes folder, but they don't seem to have the MSU audio ) - For SCUMM the folder appear, not the inner launcher. Making the scraper scrape twice. Besides the games won't launch, though they work fine in - Pico8 do not run the games ( any of the emulators are launching image viewer ) Hope this was not to loong...i really want to help improve this amazing work you do like i did for Batocera and Recalbox
