When she was born, Joey's Mom's mother knew her destiny, and named her accordingly. It's actually got to do with the inheritance. One of Joey's ancestors, Joey, decreed that his children had to be named either Joey or Joey's Mom, depending upon gender, to be eligible according to the terms of the will. So Joey is the son of Joey's Mom, who was the daughter of Joey, son of Joey's Mom. If Joey has a son, the first one he'll have to name "Joey Joeyson the Second," and if he has a daughter, he will be required to name her, confusingly, Joey's Mom, in anticipation of her one day having a son to name Joey. It all gets very confusing, and it's unclear how iron-clad the terms of the will are. But that is how Joey ended up inheriting Joey's Mom's house and all that money way back at the beginning of Soggy Cardboard. That was the "Love Crap" Joey was referring to. There's actually a much larger fortune that Joey will inherit control over, but the terms of the will prohibit his mother disclosing any details about that. If Joey ever gets a sister, her name is required to be "Joy".
