Description:
The world consists of a part of Poznan, its 1958 version. Poznan was once the capital of Poland and is still the capital of the Wielkopolska region. Poznan lies midway between Berlin and Warsaw, which has helped make it an important town for centuries. Badly damaged in World War II, the city (especially its Old Town) has been beautifully restored. The huge Old Town Square (Stary Rynek) is one of Europe’s nicest, and is lined by lots of historic attractions and restaurants and nightlife.
Process:
The work itself in total took me 4 months of nonstop work, used most of my free time on it :D. I've started from void and gradually built block by block to make sure all the measurements are correct and 1:1 scale. I used google earth street view and google earth 3d view to see the details on rooftops of houses and the courtyard details in the neighborhood blocks, I also used historical imagery since the look of the town significantly changed over time, for example, in 1958 Poznan still had the tramway line on the square and sidewalks, right now it doesn't. However, besides that, since 1958 a lot didn't change, the town already looked as it is, restored from the damages of world war 2, where 60% of buildings were almost completely destroyed in the old market square. I also take in account the historical time-period that I chose, where Poland was under the rule of the Soviet Union and as you know religion and Christmas wasn't necessarily approved and accepted by the communist regime, I still decided to add all the decorations despite that anyway, I'm sure a lot of people won't get into history that deep to point it out.
Important:
- this is a real life location with every single building existing in real life, including trees, signs and colors (some are changed since 1958).
- some houses include interior, incliding the archeology museum hallway
- Christmas decorations were made by me :D
