Birb News!

I just had one of the most stressful (and it's still ongoing) experiences in my life, and as my unwilling, captive audience, you're gonna have no choice but to listen as I rant.

In January, I bought a set of business-class tickets through Air Canada, to get to Oslo. Total cost of about 4.7K (in Maple Money). Pricey, but... also, not that bad for what it is. I'm supposed to leave in a few hours to take the first of four flights... anyway.

Last night, I did the last of my packing, and checked in. There was an issue with the check-in, but nothing too bad. I figured I'd resolve it at the counter. My mom shook her head, took her phone, and resolved to 'fix' it. She loves calling places to complain, and some of the time she gets things out of it.

But she didn't call the airline. She called the first number that pops up on Google when you type in the airline's name. It's a redirect to a call centre in India.

She gave my name, the boarding number and... that's it. That's all you need to change, cancel, update, or do anything to a ticket. (Pro-tip: if you want to ruin someone's evening, find out their boarding number. It's a 5-letter thing, the first couple are usually associated with the airline, so you only need to guess at the last three. You can now... idk, cancel some CEO's flight. congrates!)

So, Indian dude on the other end started to try to extort money from my mom, and when she passed him to me and I realized it was a scam, he hung up.

And cancelled my flight.

My flight which can't be un-cancelled.

Air Canada refunded me. Since one leg of the flight is with an allied company, and not them, they can't 'uncancel' the ticket.

A new ticket for the same flight? 12K.

So, I paid a few thousand more, at the last minute, for the a different set of tickets, this time in economy class. I feel like puking and crying all at once. I haven't slept.

I'm still going to make it, I hope, but now all the planning I did goes out the window, and I... I don't handle not having things planned out well.

Idk. I was so happy just last night, and then everything went to shit in the space of a few minutes. I know it's not a real disaster, but... fuck.

Anyway.

Uh. I'll be off for most of this week. I'll try to get some writing done here and there, where I can. Maybe with my friends? That's usually a lot of fun.
