No Strings Attached - Thoughts so Far?

Hi!

So, it's been a couple of weeks since I started writing No Strings Attached, and it's still proving to be pretty fun! I'm kinda curious about how you're all taking it, however?

Are there things you'd change? What do you like (so that I can focus more on that), what do you dislike (so that I can skip past it), what would you like to see more of?

I don't usually do... retrospectives like this, but I think it might not be a terrible idea to get an idea of what my readers are thinking!

I'm liking it so far, although the dragon based magic making things work is not something I can wrap my head around. To me they're above humans petty wants and needs. I like the idea of the puppets growth and like others said, maybe getting into their individual back stories would be fun. They're reanimated corpses, but who were they before? I'm getting some hints, and I'm hoping for more! Overall, anxiously awaiting each new chapter!

It’s not for me

Irish Not Sane

I am thoroughly enjoying it. As a big fan of world building, I need moar lore! also, the "male protagonist" description doesn't really fit IMO. For me, at least, the dolls are the leads in the story. (That's a good thing!)

Boenn

I'm loving it and pretty sure I'm not your target audience! No knowledge whatever of gaming tropes, arcane adventure fic, etc., but I find the characters vivid, the peculiar animation/reanimation magic of this world surprisingly coherent, the personalities of the not-so-puppet-like puppets quite winning, the mystery of a collapsing draconic empire intriguing. OK, so maybe I am your target audience . . .

Mary Pardo

I'm enjoying it. Excited to see how the trio mature in personality and power. Some characters feel inorganic, (blacksmith and now skeleton sage) speaking/acting like NPCs in a video game. I understand the inspiration for the story, but it does make the world feel false.

Cliff

Inspiration doesn't prescribe a framework. Something that video game movies always tended to get wrong, which is why they generally suck. Write what you want to write, and the passion will come through.

Baldrickk

Okay! Cool, second person to mention that. I suppose it's a worry when the story is based on Elden Ring. It was a worry of mine too, that I'd need to write even more combat, but I think I'd rather focus on other sorts of development.

RavensDagger

Oh! Sure, I can find a moment to split the trio apart, maybe give each of them a turn to see how differently they think!

RavensDagger

I'm loving it so far id like a perspective from the red one I don't think we've had one yet.

Tiffany Miller

Sounds good so far! Keep up the good work!

Manlor

I'm enjoying it. I wouldn't want it to go into endless fighting -- I guess they'll have to fight a mad dragon eventually but please leave some time for character building, exploration, mysteries, etc. I would love to see the three evolve into more autonomy, maybe even creating a few new companions.

Simon Hoerder

i’m enjoying it, nothing in particular that i want to see more off but also not anything i want to see less of

I'm having a blast with it! I'd like to see more development of the girls' relationship to each other, and Maldrak seems like a good dude. I think you've done a great job of establishing seeds of potential drama later in the story so I'm excited.

ErrebanRrereban

I'm enjoying it! The darkness of the world is a bit much for me, but so far it's been manageable. I'd love to see the girls develop more, and the system for them to upgrade their bodies looks really interesting, so I'd like to see more of that!

Cristi Palincas

I'm really enjoying it, especially the interactions between characters. It might be fun to see the occasional perspective from Carnel or Lazur? It could be an especially good way to avoid repeating something described previously (such as returning to a previous location, or fighting a similar opponent).

I'm having a blast with it! I personally never find combat *all* that interesting (in most stories tbh), so I'm much preferring your character dialogue and interactions, and I like the pov switches! Also just, in general mastering skills and adapting to the new body is fun and cyberpunk
