The Stray Cat Strut Fan Media License

Hello Samurai,

So, this is something that a few people have been asking about, and it's something that does exist in our niche. So, with the help of my friend Selkie Myth, I was able to put something together for anyone who writes an SCS Fanfiction.

This is a contract. It allows the persons who sign it the right to own and publish and distribute their own SCS a fanfictions for profit.

How does it work? Download the PDF attached below, read it carefully because it's still a legally-binding contract, sign it, and send me a copy over Discord or via Patreon DM. I'll sign it and send you a signed copy in return. From that point on, we will be in a contract together.

The broad terms are:

·         You are permitted to use the setting, events, characters, and iconography (e.g.,logos and character designs) in your Fan Works.

·         You ARE permitted to monetize your Fan Works.

·         You MUST be an individual or small team (twenty or fewer) to benefit under the License.

·         You may NOT use text copied from the Licensed Series.

·         You do NOT have to submit your Fan Works to the Author.

·         You do NOT have permission to use other Fan Works without permission.

·         You MUST grant the Author permission to use any characters, events, etc. that appear in your Fan Works.  This is to prevent arguments that you created ideas used by the Author in the future.

Basically, it's as open a free a fanfic contract as can be while I still cover my feathery behind.

This all sounds rather serious, and that's because it is. I want the SCS fanfic community to grow, but I want it to be done responsibly. Still, this should give you the legal right to make money off of your SCS fanwork without fearing any legal repercussions in the future, which I hope is pretty cool!

Keep warm,

-Raven

Yeah, a Vampire Survivors-esque game is much more realistic than a Helldivers-like one.

Narf

Yeah, I could see that as well. My personal thoughts went more towards gameplay like Helldivers 2, but I've got no illusions on how much effort a game like that takes. Not to mention I could handle the coding part, but not the art. I also work full time, so currently it is nothing more than an idea, if it ever happens it's going to be a few years into the future at least.

Deneas

Oh! That sounds super fun! If you need any support with that, give me a ping!

RavensDagger

That does sound interesting. Something like Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, but perhaps more varied?

Eleeyah

Nice. I remember when certain other published authors had to crack down on fanfiction or put down arbitrary rules for fanfiction. Examples Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mercedes Lackey, and Raymond Feist

This is great. Love that it is not just fan fiction, but all kinds of fan works. Still thinking about creating a horde shooter video game in the SCS universe, because it would just fit that great.

What makes this contract funny, is because its a about a series that focuses heavily on big companies screwing over people, by making tricky contracts that mainly benefit the companies...... Still super cool you let people use your world and or characters to their hearts content, and they get to make money off it too.

Exonator

it is very cool yes!
