Stray Cat Strut TTRPG - Project Parabellum Update Two!

Yup, I had a day off today and yup, I did spend it all on this!
Woo!
Anyway, here's the second update to the SCS-TTRPG. A Catalogue!

So, I'm thinking these play out as the equivalent of a class in any class-based TTRPG. Lots of flavour and abilities bundled together, basically, only it's mostly gear-based in this case. Shout-out to Eldritch on the Discord for help making the tables more readable!

The next goal is making the combat system, the civilian-tier gear, the General Basic Tier Zero Samurai gear, then the Monster Manual. Once all of that's done, I'll have a very narrow, but mostly complete, vertical slice of the entire system.

Uh... I'll put up a poll at some point, because I'm not sure if it's just me and like, 5 others that actually care about this.

WAIT... why are some tables in itallics? Dangit!

Anyway! I'm hoping to have... eh, about 20 distinct catalogues in the TTRPG? If you're a fanfic writer and want to... uh, do some of my work for me, then I've posted a doc below with the Ninja catalogue in it.

If you DO create your own catalogue, then... I might use it? Maybe not? Depends on a few things. If you add any traits, please be sure to list them at the end in like, a table or something. File is a standard Windows Docx (page header and footer set to 0.25cm, left/right indents set at 1.75 cm)

I think the best way to balance something like the system and its catalogues is to link them to the monsters. So you pick a higher tier catalogue which then allows the GM to select higher tier aliens etc it's not perfect but would stop a lot of issues.

Mhm! So, it's entirely possible to buy multiple catalogues. So you're likely to run into a situation where you have gear from another catalogue with Complex Slots available, but no Mods that you want to fit. So you can buy the Tier One of another Catalogue and instantly get at least one decent Modification from it. Not a cheap option, but it'll encourage some degree of build diversification!

I have thoughts about a gravity based catalogue, but I don’t have word, and I also know that I would do like half a page then go read something and forget

Briar Rosier

I think that I noticed that there are modifications that aren't usable in their tier and I was wondering if that was intentional or not? Though that thought is based on it being blank instead of a zero. With how I'm reading it I don't think there is a cyberware or armor in tier one that has a complex slot for the void cloak modification.

Wind

I'm so excited to see the page for characters and their custom ai! This system is gonna be so neat!

Raag

I think it's really cool you're doing this, Raven. Please absolutely feel free to use Tinea if you'd like - she does organic augmentations, after all. Rather than *playing* TTRPGs, I enjoy watching streams of them, so that sort of thing might be an option to generate more interest if it seems to be dragging.

This looks great! I definitely would play this with my group

Grant Daniel

Yes, in a video game there was 2 team with each there gun with identical stat, but different sound , but 1 gun perfomed better.

Oh definitely. And perfect balance is something you'll never reach, anyway. But some play-testing and feedback once other stuff is together seems reasonable. Things that seem weak or super-powerful (hello void cloak~) might not be so, once you write up the combat system.

Katieclysm

I'm just not gonna~ Well... no, not exactly. I think it's going to be the kind of system where no matter what, the PCs are gonna be strong, and that's... okay?

RavensDagger

Whooo... just realizing now that balancing the catalogue entries is gonna be a minor nightmare.

Katieclysm

I have a somewhat planned out set of mechanics for a TTRPG I've been tinkering on. I may have lost all the written stuff but I've been cooking it in my brain for forever. The mechanics are designed to be modular so you can make custom weapons and armor, and the properties would basically define themselves. It's also pretty easy to figure out. The most complicated mechanic is the hazard system. It's wordy and could use editing but I'm pretty confident it's easy to use, just hard to explain.

Friggin awesome 🤩
