Its true that it is not THAT good, but it gives lots of worldbuilding and foreshadowing for the 2014 version/storyline. Its great you are able too see that : D Also, Archer was actually trying to kill Shirou in the temple. He missed because Shirou noticed his intention and quickly started to flee despite his injury. When he fell down the stairs, it was also Shirou jumping back with all he had to dodge ArcherΒ΄s last attack. So, yeah, Archer was really trying to kill him there, which is why he still kept trying to do it despite Saber being there
