Yeah a lot of Japanese shows fro the 90s sort of still have that 70s/80s vibe. They didn't really use HD cameras for a while in Toku shows either until the late 2000s so maybe it's just due to the type of camera it's shot with. And Kaku is one of the most no-nonsense mentors I've seen in a Sentai. Dude does not fuck around. He borders on being an asshole sometimes, but he's always got his reasons lol.
