I can see why people might not have liked it originally, but you are right it fills in a lot of gaps and questions. Yes of course you are right she did win the lottery ticket to board the ship, god that feels like a life time ago that we saw that. That would have been a better title 🤣, i can see why people wanted us to watch before the end even tho it came out a year after it definitely ties all loose ends before the last episode.

2025-03-24 11:53:00 +0000 UTCIn all honesty, I was originally a bit disappointed in this episode/movie the first time I saw it, but that was at least a year after I’d seen the finale, which was truly a powerful series ending. In comparison, this was anti-climactic and insufficient, at least to those of us who wanted even more. But each time I see it again, especially being able to watch it immediately after the series finale, I really appreciate more and more the way it fills in a lot of the gaps in the plot. I like knowing that one particular Cavil was behind everything, but that almost every other model including the Simons were starting to feel sympathetic toward the humans, and subconsciously failing in their attempts to cause mass scale murder. To clarify a couple things you mentioned, Kara never saw the camp doctor in the rebel camp — Simon and Cavil expressly mentioned it in one scene: “Did she see you?” “No, I stayed out of sight.” Also, the only place we saw actress Lymari Nadal before as Gianna was in the miniseries—she was one of the lottery winners who made it on board Boomer’s raptor when Helo gave up his seat for Baltar — we never saw her again after that except when she got off the raptor on Colonial One. (The fan-based speculation is that her husband and daughter survived the attack on Caprica and made it onto the Cybele where they later reunited with Gianna.) I liked finding out more about Shelly Godfrey and what happened to her, and about Boomer’s “activation” with the elephant statue (which also connects with the first episode we saw Head-Baltar, when he tells Caprica Six to “start with the elephants” when she goes to talk to post-resurrection Boomer. Also it was great seeing more of the pyramid team post-attack, as well as seeing Ellen and Tory before and just after the attack. Overall, I thought writer/director Edward James Olmos did a fantastic job staying within the lore of existing Battlestar episodes, but also creating a new story to fill in the plot holes. I agree with the idea that the title should have been “The Plan—and Why it Failed.” 😊
