Doctor Who 12x7 - REACTION HIGHLIGHTS!!

Chris Chibnall revealed in an issue of the Doctor Who Magazine that he had cancer, so it was based on his own experiences. Here's what he said about that scene..."I think that little moment in Can You Hear Me? [2020] – where Graham is saying about his fear of his cancer having returned, and the Doctor’s like, “I don’t know how to handle this” – I think it’s really important. The Doctor’s reaction in that scene, I’ve had that numerous times. People do behave with you like that in that situation. And when anyone says, “Oh, I don’t think she’d behave like that,” I go, “People respond in really weird ways to those conversations.” Understandably, people are like, “I don’t know what to do with this.” There’s another version of the scene where the Doctor’s saying, “It’s okay, Graham, it’s all right, I’m here for you.” But actually, the Doctor has those moments too. The Doctor can be contradictory. Should be! I love that."

I really like the Yaz story component, I appreciated that character expansion and made me feel a little more affection for her. Some performances from a few of the other guest stars felt quite the opposite. Am I watching a flagship BBC show or the local amateur dramatics. Like so much stuff this era has, I liked the ideas. The execution felt underwhelming. Again, down to a style choice. The stagnant stage direction and quick explanation and resolution only contributed to my over all feeling of apathy I've continued to have for about 50ish % of the past 2 series. Was the Doctor and Graham moment out of character when considering all incarnations..... I wanna say for the most part no. For Nuwho, leaning more towards yes, but I could see it both ways. But definitely not for this version, who's purposefully kept the companions at arms length. The result, as for me, by the nature of those relationships. In that moment I would be looking for something that makes me feel closer to this Doctor. But I appreciated the tone they went for, even if I felt it was ill timed and totally counterproductive to what I personally needed the Doctor to be in that moment. I'm not mad at it, just disappointed.

I spoke with Rosie a bit about this episode... The last scene with graham, the cancer one... I find it the most offensive scene in the entirety of New Who... I'm still watching the video, so IDK if Rosie will send this as a fact, but the BBC got so many complaints about the scene that they had to issue an "apologize". https://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/bbc-responds-to-can-you-hear-me-complaints-92666.htm Edit: yep, she spoke about it! PS: the doctor, at this point, is over 2K years old and has seen her entire planet die... MAYBE she could be not so horrible!

this episode is like a 50/50. Some really cool moments like the animation and the villains but things like the wrap up and the sonic screwdriver from the pocket lets it down for me.
