I feel like the meaning behind Hantengu's emotions is that because the main body is fear that is probably what emotion was dominant in his humam life, the one he most actively portrayed. His other emotions stay suppressed most of time and when hes in danger he discards them to fight while he runs off and hides. It also seems a little telling that hatred is his strongest emotion by far and how it calls Tanjiro an awful villain is probably related to how he felt at some point while human. While Gyoko is the more expository demon I really think that Hantengu is gonna be the one we get the backstory on cause his whole deal is much less surface level and definitely requires some context.
