I agree, it is a similar - but still unique in its own way - premise. Both are in the Sherlock Holmes vein like Monk, House, and to some extent Bones. Not that I don't love every one of 'em. :)

The Mentalist did have a similar premise as this show but Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) explicitly told his co-workers that he was not psychic and just used mental tricks to appear to be. Also Josh Braden (Scott Seaver), was actually one of the villains of The Mentalist season 3.
